Re: Donkey Kong Champ Billy Mitchell Loses Legal Battle Against Regular Show Parody

Billy is known for carrying Drama around him like a bag of Christmas Toys. It's a well crafted persona. I've been involved in the classic arcade collectors circle here in FL for decades, before they were even called classics.I've spoken to Billy several times over the years, and can even say I've even wiped out his high score on an Arcade Game. (Lunar Lander) He built the "Vader" persona for TV, it's not his real personality, but it is who he is in public.

I think the lawsuit was never expected to be won. It was more of a "Hello, I'm still here and relevant." Famous (as well as semi-famous) people do that in order to keep companies from profiting off of their persona, which I can understand. It's business, and their persona is their money train. Most of Hollywood does this crap. And even though it was an old episode of TRS, I'd say it took this long to get the paperwork before a judge. I had a lawsuit go on for 3 years before a Judge actually sat down and looked at the case.

Beyond that, this weekend I got to meet somebody that I hadn't met before...Walter Day. (Founder of Twin Galaxies Arcade) Walter has more of a claim I think against Disney for being the inspiration behind "Mr. Litwak" from Wreck-it-Ralph. But he seems more tickled by it than anything else. Walter doesn't seem to have a Persona. He's just him. =)
