I will say it again - Politics is irrelevant. If intelligence says there are risks flying from those countries, then I won't doubt them. A device detonated in the hold is always safer than one detonated in the cabin.
Politics are irrelevant regarding this - aviation authorities don't make these sorts of decisions lightly. If the American FAA did nothing with the knowledge that tragedy could strike using a device that small, I'd dread to think of the consequences...
