Re: Teardown Suggests The Switch OLED Dock Is 4K 60fps-Ready And 'Future Proof'

@HenHiro I can see your point - of course they'd rather sell a whole new unit at a higher price. But then again, I wonder if they'd want to alienate a huge number of existing owners? Say for example BOTW2 was exclusive to the "Pro" console (or any other premium title, where you'd want to see a 4k version)... surely Nintendo wouldn't want to alienate all existing owners, including switch lite owners? I would expect 4k games, not to be bigger (more expansive environments), just to have a higher resolution, and this demand could be solved by an enhanced dock. The "new 3DS" exclusive games are a good example of this approach not necessarily being commercially successful for them in the past.

It's what I'd do, but who knows what will happen 😁

My theory, much like others have suggested, is that the "Switch Pro" is likely to be a new dock they release. The dock containing the necessary upscaling chip(s).

I believe they've confirmed the new oled dock is compatible with the older switch models as well, which sounds like it may be capable too. This way, the huge install base (original switch model owners) could simply buy a new dock to see 4K-level enhancements. Official docks have always been hard to come by, and many would happily keep a second dock for elsewhere in their home. Potentially, this new dock would be cheaper to purchase for the consumer too (then a new switch entirely); no screen, joycons etc etc. It would also prevent the oled model from becoming outdated within a small timeframe. Just a thought.
