Three Houses was a massive evolution in the series.
Engage was an embarrassing slip back into nightmarishly cringe anime tropes and awful dialogue. My friend and I LAUGHED so hard when your mother dies 5 minutes after you meet her. Which is like 30 Minutes into the game (pulled a Fates again. Lol). Then your character never stops yapping about “Gonna do this… for my mother!” It’s honestly some of the worst in the series. I think I was around the halfway point when I dropped it.
To end on a positive note, Engage did have a nice, vibrant art direction. The maps were great and I liked being able to explore a little. I’d like to see another FE like Shadows or Valencia (what’s that a remake of, 2?) with dungeons exploration and stuff. Also, the animations for combat in Engage were great.
P.S. The Three Hopes spin off was a blast to play.
