I hope I can alleviate your concerns with a bit more info on the game: Almost all character endings can be seen in one playthrough (based on in-game choices and having a save prior to the final scenes), but we also thought about what you brought up here, and so we created a New Game + option that not only retains your level/equipment, but we let you turn off all random encounters too. It may not completely eliminate the retreading, but it turns subsequent playthroughs into a much more streamlined experience to get at any missed content.
