I really don't care about achievements. 50G for scoring a bicycle kick! Whatever. People say it adds longevity to a game, but to be honest, I don't need a reason to get the most out of a game that I've paid £40 for. I find it strange that some people say that they need achievements to keep playing a game. Wouldn't this be good for third party developers? Less coding, more freedom in what they want to do, etc.
Snoop is in this because he endorses Tekken and has done for ages; he's a celebrity fan, and you know what that does for business. Anyway, been waiting for this for ages, can't wait to play it!
GTA5, DOA5, MGR: Revengeance, DmC, Far Cry 3, Watch Dogs, Bioshock Infinite, OverStrike, SimCity, NFS: Most Wanted, Splinter Cell: Blacklist & Rainbow Six: Patriots. If these games come to the Wii U, my pockets are going to be thinner than Keira Knightley.
Tekken or SoulCalibur characters don't make sense in SSB, I don't see why other fighting games would be represented in SSB. Plus, the characters in SSB have to be relevant to Nintendo, right? Tekken has only had 2 games, SC has only had 1; that's not really relevant if you ask me. If any Namco character will be in, it's either (unfortunately) Pac-Man, as he's Namco's mascot, or Lloyd, since Tales of Symphonia is probably the most recognized of the Tales games on Nintendo consoles. Hopefully, other companies can have characters in the game too, I hope Namco aren't too uptight with that. Hopefully Megaman, Isa and maybe Professor Layton in the 3DS version, can join the almost inevitable Sonic, Snake and Pac-Man.
Melty Monster Galaxy, Mechanical Rhythm, Unfinished Battle, Invitation to Madness, Land of the Livid Dead, Ike's Theme, Mario Strikers Pause Menu, S&P2 start menu, Art Style: Light Trax's Computer, there's too many good songs!
This graphics war is pathetic. Graphics shouldn't be the main point of buying a video games console. I own a Wii and an Xbox 360. I have 19 Wii games atm, over the course of it I have owned over 60. Want me to tell you how many 360 games I own? FOUR. Forza 4, Naruto UNS2, FIFA 12 & Street Fighter 4. And that's been that over the past 4 years. I haven't touched my 360 since March.
Graphics don't point my view one way, gameplay does, and it's pathetic that Microsoft think graphics should be the decisive factor. Besides, modern TV's only go up to 1080p; Wii U supports it so how much further can you go? Creativity and innovation build up a console, not raw power. I'm definitely buying the Wii U at some stage, whether it's weaker than the PS4 and Xbox 3 or not, and I'm sure as hell Microsoft will never get another penny from me. So you can keep you high-resolution-more-realistic-than-life-shooting game on your console with this much RAM, this much ROM with this many cores, because I'm fine with less realistic Nintendo games, thanks.
@Yasume I can't get it day one because I'm really far behind on the Wii games I want to get but for me there are already 8 must have titles! Did you just not like anything you've seen so far?
I don't think Nintendo really need new IP's, they just need to revive the ones that haven't been around for a while or expand on the ones that are just coming through, like:
F-Zero, StarFox, StarTropics, 1080, Wave Race, Sheriff, Another Code, Ice Climber, Custom Robo, Excitebike, Advance Wars, Punch-Out, Pilotwings, Wario Land, Yoshi's Island, The Mysterious Murasame Castle & Puzzle League.
Even some of the shorter NES games could be remade as downloadable titles; Balloon Fight, Duck Hunt, Wrecking Crew, etc could be fun multiplayer titles.
As long as it's like a PS+ service, that's fine. But if it's like XBL where you have to pay to play games online or talk to your friends then you can forget about it. They'll definitely attract more people if the online service is free.
Couldn't care less, Castlevania is dead to me. I don't care for Tomb Raider either. The only 3rd party games I want to see confirmed are Need For Speed: Most Wanted, Dead or Alive 5 & Splinter Cell: Blacklist. I wouldn't mind if DmC and MGR: Revengeance are thrown in too.
I only want 45 characters as a maximum. All I'm expecting is seamless online play, good music and a balanced roster. I can hope they change classic mode, all-star mode and target smash back to the way it was in Melee, and bring back board the platforms and race to the finish. I'm not gonna start the character debate because it isn't worth doing!
Don't get me wrong, I love FIFA, but if they announce the sports games as the two unknown games I'll be really annoyed. I'm hoping it's Need for Speed Most Wanted and I have a feeling the second will be SimCity to take advantage of the gamepad.
It's sad news but what could they expect? If the only games they spend time advertising are the usual Sonic's, Total War's, Football Manager's etc., who can they expect to buy lesser known titles if no one is in the know? Personally, I believe SEGA dug their own grave, because of the constant emphasis on making Sonic after Sonic and not recognizing their other great franchises like Jet Set Radio, Space Channel, Alex Kidd, even Shenmue. I think their attitude has driven people away, and if they don't change soon, it'll just get worse.
The only thing I'm excited for Namco to do is the online portion of the game as they have loads of experience with online fighters. Besides that, I would've been more than happy to wait double the time for Nintendo to work alone than to collaborate with Namco. Don't get me wrong, they make good games, they're just not the company I'd want on SSB.
I hope they don't make it Namco X Nintendo because I will not buy that. Keep Pac-Man the hell out of this game! If they just develop it and have no say in the roster, that's fine. But if they take all the 3rd party slots for themselves with Pac-Man, Tekken or Tales of characters then this will be the first Smash Bros I do not own.
So Project Zero 2 (and maybe The Last Story for the Americans) for Wii, and Fire Emblem, NSMB2 & Luigi's Mansion 2 is all I'm expecting to hear. Might skip this one. I hope they talk about porting some of those Japanese games though, like Earth Seeker, Fatal Frame 4, maybe a release date for Rodea the Sky Soldier.
The art style doesn't bother me too much, it does look similar to NSMBWii, but who cares? But I agree with WaveBoy; this must be the last one, it doesn't feel new anymore. Also on WaveBoy's comment, I love GoodFeel, I'd like to see them make a new Yoshi's Island game
Yeah, I agree, a Wii U alone will maybe go for £199. But with games and stuff it has to be over 200. Anything under that is probably a loss and Nintendo say they don't wanna sell at a loss. Imho it doesn't matter what bundles there are because personally I already have over 10 games I want.
@Kirk If you seriously believe that we could get NintendoLand, NSMBU, a console AND a gamepad for just £179, not to be mean, but you're crazy! A solitary PS3 at GAME still costs £199, and considering the Wii U is more powerful, the controller is more expensive, plus two games, you're looking to pay at least £249 for that particular bundle, if not more. Personally, I don't think Nintendo will give that much in the default package anyway, maybe as an add-on bundle like they do with Mario Kart, etc. I think it'll be the standard console, gamepad, NintendoLand & cables for at least £229.
Anyway, I'm expecting £229 - £299, with a GamePad, NintendoLand, manuals, some sort of downloadable channels, cables & console. All in black too, if it doesn't launch in black, I'll wait; I was so annoyed it took 2 and a half years for a black Wii, especially as I had to get a white one. And MiiVerse & Nintendo Network needs to be up instantly.
@bahooney Much as I love me some Earthbound, there'd be no point. Prooducer says he's finished with the series. Most you could hope for is a HD Trilogy, and pray it gets released in the West.
@d-lister Well, trust me, make sure it tops your list when you buy a new game. It truly makes other games look pathetic; coming from a guy who has logged in over 800 hours on SSBB, Xenoblade Chronicles is the best Wii game by a long shot!
@d-lister If you don't already have it (and shame on you if you don't), get Xenoblade Chronicles. It is the best RPG ever released in my opinion. If you're looking for retro games, everything on NeoGeo. That'll keep you for a while
Mega Man 2, F-Zero X, Super Smash Bros 64 & maybe some A Boy & His Blob on the side. BTW Corbie you're probably not reading this, but if you are where did you get Lost in Shadow? That game is rare as hell, took me a year and a half to find A Boy & His Blob, but I still can't find LiS!
Potentially, I can see their older, more obscure franchises that haven't been out for a while going free-to-play, like Balloon Fight or Duck Hunt. But even then I think they'd be restricted and may be better off as downloadable titles. The only 3rd party FTP game I've ever taken interest in is Ghost Recon Online, other than that, don't really care for them.
@H3ro_of_tim3 I agree. It has to be bundled with the console and the controller. Nintendo do know what they're doing though, they can't really expect to sell this separately at full retail price and expect a bunch of people to buy it, especially if the console bundles with other games. However, I believe this game has a lot of potential, if Nintendo do the right things. Most importantly IMO, free or cheap DLC is needed in the game to add new attractions - to support the article - that can get test franchises out there. As I said in my previous post, lesser known franchises like Custom Robo, Excite, bit Generations, Puzzle League, etc can be showcased in this simplistic game that will get the word to Nintendo if creating a new game in a franchise is worthwhile.
Personally, I think that this game was made not only to showcase the versatility of the GamePad, but also to give the lesser known franchises some publicity. Who knows, maybe an international release of Nazo no Murasame-jo on the Wii U VC, maybe a remake of Balloon Fighter? And sorry for this in advance, but Takamaru for SSB4!
You kidding me? EA makes and can make some awesome games; OverStrike, Mass Effect, Medal of Honor, Battlefield, NFS Most Wanted, then they could make another Hit & Run style Simpsons game. I wanna see these types of games on the Wii U, and I believe EA can make a contribution to the console. If I could get NFS a while after launch, I'd be a happy man.
There's a major hole in this that very few people are acknowledging. Sure, PS4 and XBOX 720 can use lots more power, but what will it go to? Because it certainly won't be towards better graphics. Almost definitely, they will still be 1080p, because who has a TV that can support resolutions higher than that? And how many people will be willing to spend thousands of pounds to get a 1280p television just for a gaming experience? Because television broadcasters won't upscale their shows just because your TV can support it, surely. If Sony and Microsoft go down that route, they're certain to fail, so I'm expecting visuals of next-gen to be on level terms. Otherwise, you'll have a 1280p console with a 1080p TV which can't register the difference; it'll look exactly the same as previous consoles, if not worse! Also, Sony is out of money. It can't afford such a generational leap as PS2 to PS3 again, especially since Vita failed, their economical situation has become worse. Expect Wii U graphics. Microsoft has the smallest fan base out of all the 3 companies, as the 360 bombed in Japan. If they want the market to expand, graphics can't be the main issue; if they Japanese aren't buying a 360 now, which is relatively good graphically and price wise, who says they'll get a 720, especially if the price is astronomical, just for a shinier image?! And, if my assumptions are correct, and the Wii U costs between £200-£350 at launch, anything higher than that won't be competitive, so specs cannot afford to be leaps and bounds better than what Nintendo will provide. Anyhow, I'm not graphic crazy. The Pikmin 3, Trine 2 and Rayman Legends demos were beyond epic, and I would happily take those visuals for the whole course of the Wii U's lifespan. Great, this partnership could lead to more EA games and there are so many good EA franchises! I wanna see FIFA 13, OverStrike, NFS:MW2/Underground3, a new Simpsons game akin to Hit & Run, NBA Street Vol 4, maybe a Star Wars MMO (not TOR), Mirror's Edge 2, SSX (but I'd prefer 1080 Snowboarding 3) and other notable Valve and BioWare games. This could be epic!
