Re: Anniversary: n-Space & Nintendo's M-Rated GameCube Gem Is 20 Years Old

I'll make my confession of the day: I bought Geist back in the day, played it for a very short time, and then saved it in my vast collection of GameCube games because, while the game was very interesting, it also felt very backward in other ways—not so much because of the predictable graphics, but because the characters' movements felt "stiff."
But I was really surprised that Nintendo pushed the release of this game, when it's usually the kind of innovative game that, for reasons they never explain, ends up being canceled. I'm still waiting for them to release Wave Race with its futuristic speedboats, Project H.A.M.M.E.R., Raven Blade, Car Combat, and maybe some other games that Retro Studios (I think one of them is Star Fox) and NSTC canceled.
I'm not going to say I'm going to rush out and play Geist again to give it another chance, when I have several other games to review.

Re: Opinion: Metroid II Doesn't Care If Samus Lives Or Dies

Samus's death in Metroid for the NES isn't very glamorous either. Seeing the character break into a thousand pieces helped to convey that Samus was a robot. In the second part, I suppose they couldn't recreate the animation of the suit breaking into a thousand pieces against a black background that shows no mercy for animations, so making it disappear was the most sensible solution and one that understandably helps reach the same conclusion.
Still, I think Metroid II improved on many aspects of the first game. It gave us a much better-proportioned Samus, with details like the missile cannon transformation, introduced us to the evolution of the Metroids, and introduced new weapons and attachments.
