I don't want them to make any other sports games. I could definitely see them trying to sign an exclusive licensing deal with the NHL to get rid of 2k as competition....unless that already happened and I missed something.
EA already has a monopoly on sports franchises, why do they hate competition? And why can't we get some anti-trust lawyers in here to bust it up?
I wish Criterion and NFS weren't owned by EA. It would make buying the U version so much easier. *sigh
@AlexSora89 Having the figurines for pokemon would be ridiculous.....but would do extremely well in Japan.
I feel like the cards would be a better fit here. Sell the packs, cheaper to make, cheaper to buy (but with large profit margins), take up less space and potentially reignite the card trading frenzy that happened when Pokemon first released
@SpaceApe Nintendo properties are far more popular than EA ones. Sorry.
EA wanted to completely control Nintendo's online service....have it run through Origin's interface and netcode. Nintendo said no and now EA is all pissy. Just last June they said that the Wii U was the first next generation console to release and they were excited about it. They pulled a complete 180 recently and said they don't consider the Wii U to be next gen and basically won't be supporting it. They definitely had PS4/720 dev kits back in June so it's not like they weren't aware of the technical difference between the two. Nintendo didn't want to sell its soul to a power hungry company with no morals. This one is on EA.
Nintendo can survive without EA easily. They have ~$20 billion in cash and assets at the moment. They could take losses of several hundred million every year and still be around in 30-50 years. Considering their lineup for the year.....that we know about.....and the fact that they will likely be making a profit on every Wii U sold without the need for a software sale by the end of the year, they aren't going anywhere. MS needs EA more than Nintendo does.
Besides, with EA's announcement about microtransactions being in every game....ugh...no thank you. Madden will become, "Pick your favorite team!......pay for divisions! pay for stats! Player injured? Pay money to get him healed!" They already showed off how they are handling MT's with Real Racing 3....it's bad. Really bad.
Everyone is focused on figurines for Pokemon.....why not just start making Pokemon cards with NFC tech on them? Give the Pokecard battle a massive resurgence.
Treat it like Pokemon Stadium/Colosseum....scan the card to bring your Pokemon into the battle, energy cards to let them attack, heal etc. People would be much more likely to buy a pack of cards for $8 or whatever than spend that much/more on figurines that take up a lot of space. I would go bananas over that and I'm 25. Still have all of my old Pokemon cards too.
Just as long as they don't pull a Skylanders and make NFC figurines mandatory to unlock on-disc stuff that is otherwise unobtainable. The example above would work nicely in an open world game where you can either spend time finding, catching and training your pokemon, or you can buy cards. It should have a card battle mode separate from trainer battle so that it doesn't necessarily become "pay to win."
I should stop.....I could ramble on forever about this.....
It's exciting to think that even though they have these big things planned for E3.....they are likely to have at least 1 more Nintendo Direct before then. With them showcasing Pikmin 3 and W101 this weekend at SXSW and both of those set to launch before June, they will most definitely have a Direct to give a release date.
Iwata also said he was eager to share what third parties are working on, so that could either be another ND before E3, mixed in with the P3/W101 Direct, or just saved for E3 surprises.
@ultraraichu The reviewer kept comparing it to SotN and the GBA games.....completely unfair comparison seeing as those are some of the best Castlevania games to date (if not THE best). He just seems too caught up on what he expected a 2.5D Castlevania game to be.
The guy also wrote a piece way back about how the Vita was going to be this insanely successful thing, that the 3DS didn't stand a chance. I know he is a huge 'vania fan, but why not get someone from the Nintendo team to do the article.....or even have a blurb opinion from one of them?
The only time I had freezing problems was that BTRunner 2 bug. I haven't played it since the update, but if it's fixed....cool. I am always a little apprehensive about having to unplug a new console because it locks up.
I was having some super weird gamepad connection issues while trying to download the update though. I had to sit less than a foot away (normally I'm about 6') in order for it to work...and even then it was choppy. I usually never have a problem so it was a bit worrying.
I posted that link I did above on the IGN comments section......and of course people are jumping down my throat simply because I am promoting looking at more than one review. It's quite insane really. Calling me a "Nintendo fanboy" (when I own all the consoles) and a troll (when....really? come on.)....I guess I should know better than to talk in the IGN comments section....
@MasterWario I agree, Nintendo has a bit of a marketing problem at the moment. Though, I do feel like games don't get nearly as much advertising as movies in that you hardly see marketing for it until a week or so prior to release. I remember only seeing Dead Space 3 commercials not long before and after it released. Now, it is pretty much non-existent.
It doesn't help that pretty much every site has this weird bias against Nintendo (other than here....obviously). There are a few stories here that I haven't seen anywhere else. For instance....there were 2 indie games announced for the Wii U and 2 different devs gave Nintendo praise for how easy they are to work with....IGN had neither story, nor the one about Crysis 3 being ready to launch. Joystiq is a little better, but not much.
I kind of feel like Nintendo is doing a soft launch of the Wii U, since there were hardly any commercials around during launch and none of them really showed anything. Let the early adopters pick it up, help with tweaks, word of mouth, streamline and build the Miiverse while the library grows. Then blow the doors off at E3 and bring a deluge of games this fall.
I'd expect to see commercials/ads for Luigi's Mansion in the next couple weeks, same goes for Lego City....especially on channels with child demographics. Marketing to kids will get the parents to buy, while gamers tend to know about things ahead of time. Casuals might see an ad somewhere but neither of those games falls into the same market as something like Wii Fit, so they are less likely to care regardless.
@ocarinadude14 Do it! Let us know if Pikmin 3 is new stuff too.
@C7_ I can't imagine it will take much longer to finish, May at the latest (currently slated for April-June). They know people want it and without anything else to really move systems (outside of Japan), investors will get antsy. Pikmin 3 looked shiny way back when....just think how good it will look after being delayed for polish purposes. o.O
They know they need to start selling the system more, so I'm thinking that W101 will have new stuff there too, rather than just that same trailer running on a loop. That would be a HUGE mistake.....they are smarter than that...they just need to use their intellect.
Considering Pikmin 3 and W101 don't have release dates, but are scheduled to come out sometime in the next few months.....think we'll get a release date by the end of March?
I mean, both of those were slated to be in the "launch window" of Nov-March, but were delayed for polishing purposes, surely they must be close....
@ThomasBW84 I am fairly confident there will be a sales bump in March. Hopefully Lego City is marketed, because kids with the toys would go bananas over it (I'm pretty pumped for it and I'm 25, haha). Then you've got MH3U for the hardcore MH fans and the definitive version of NFS. LCU might sell more systems than the other two....but then we just have to take a look at Japan. At the end of the month they've got Game & Wario....and Dragon Quest X. Warioware games perform fairly well in Japan, but DQX is going to blow the doors off.
Nintendo is supposedly showcasing 10 unreleased games at SXSW this weekend (announced, but unreleased like Pikmin, W101 and LCU) so I would expect some release dates to be given by the end of the month as well. Until then, I've got Runner 2 and F-Zero to hold me over on the U, with Ni No Kuni for a time sink
@aaronsullivan @dragon_rider @arrmixer Here's the deal with what happened between EA and Nintendo. EA wanted ALL of Nintendo's online stuff to be run through Origin, Nintendo said "No." and now EA is crying about it. So ridiculous.
@LordJumpMad Really? That's like saying that because the Xbox 360 or PS3 had some games that kind of looked better at launch, they aren't powerful. Nintendo has 2 first party games out, when their true efforts are put on the system, we will only START to see what the Wii U can do. Stop with the "real next gen" junk too. Next gen is much more than just a graphics bump, but is also much less. The Wii U is LITERALLY the next generation of Nintendo consoles.
@Peach64 I think it is mainly because there is an extreme software lull on the Wii U and a "AAA" title coming out in February would have sold big, simply based on the fact it was there. The reason BlOps2 didn't sell gangbusters is because it was a late port. Most of the people who were going to buy it already had it on PS3/360 so they weren't about to spend $300-$350 plus another $60 just to play it on Wii U. Crysis 3 having a simultaneous launch in an extreme drought would have sold much better.

PETA should probably change its name if they are going to attack video games.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Simulated Animals. PETSA!
Mmm....pizza....

Here's a bunch of reviews, many think it is quite good. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=156476

It's interesting to see how far apart the review scores are....IGN panned the bejeesus out of it....while most of the other scores are pretty good.
Now I just need a 3DS. Merp. XL or regular.....???
