Suddenly leaping out from the darkness, publisher Bandai Namco yesterday released The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man Of Medan onto the Switch eShop as a shadow drop.
A Switch port of 2019's game of the same title, Man of Medan is the first game in the Dark Anthology series and sees you sailing off with five friends on a spooky ghost ship where things soon turn sour (where are all of the friendly ghost ships these days?).
This Switch version allows online play with one friend or an offline mode with up to five players available — where the decision of who lives and who dies rests in your hands, we can see things getting personal pretty quickly. The purchase includes the base game, the 'Curator's Cut' game mode and an extended playable chapter amongst some other fresh accessibility features.
For a closer look at what the game has in store, check out the following from its official eShop listing:
The Dark Pictures Anthology is a series of stand-alone, branching cinematic horror games featuring a multiplayer mode.

All playable characters can live or die. The choices you make will decide their fate.
Who will you save?

The good folk over on our sister site, Push Square, weren't all that impressed with the game when it was released on PS4 back in 2019, granting it a 5/10 and stating that "Man of Medan kicks The Dark Pictures Anthology off with a whimper rather than a bang". You can check out Push Square's full review below:
That being said, perhaps the game will be better on Switch. Honestly, we doubt it, but hey, we're always up for being proven wrong!
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan is now available to download from the Switch eShop for £17.99 / $19.99.
Will you be setting sail with this spooky Switch shadow drop? Let us know in the comments.

They literally did the "BOO" thingy on us
Here's hoping for a physical release!
Spoiler alert its a bit rubbish. Only played through it once.
Sounds like it could be fun, not in a horror- but in a just have some fun way. So is it a narrative adventure with multiple inputs? Like a "dumb" horror movie where five people watch and each roots for their own character (or not)? Serious enough to pass as horror, but silly enough to laugh about with some friends on a movie night?
Is it bad enough to be a campy B-movie (like Deadly Premonitions)? Or just bad?
Noooooooo! I love the Dark Pictures games, this is great news!
By the way 24 fps. Real cinematic experience.
I enjoyed this game on PS4. Very story driven with choices that change the outcome. There are multiple possible endings.
Dark Anthology games are really great. It will be interesting how this runs on Switch, as it is a game with more graphics.
A shadow drop means it's not a physical release. I'll stick with my Xbox & Playstation copies for now.
The trailer was fun - but I thought the music to go along with the trailer was really bad. Like this was the backdrop on a live Imagine Dragons stage.
Wait a minute. Did we just break the 6th wall? Maybe it IS an elaborate nightmare! Maybe we are all at an Imagine Dragons concert!!! murders self
@DemonKow It's like watching an early scream movie with a bunch of friends on the couch. You know it's bad but you still enjoy it!😄
@HandheldHaunter Oh look it's a sexy dancer in the bottom of a sunken ship i'm way into this i'm glad i loaded up on axe body spray toda...WAIT THAT IS NO CHEERLEADER ITS A G-G-G-GHOOOOOOOOOOST!!!!
@Cashews Alright gang let's trap this ghost!
Does anyone know if I need an active online membership to play this as a one player please? 🤔😊
I played way more of Man of Medan than was healthy for a single person on the PS4 and 5. The Dark Pictures Anthology is definitely a marmite series, but if you buy into its hokey Choose-Your-Own-Adventure charms they're quality slices of entertainment.
If you loved Until Dawn, you will like this too. Lots of spooky. Lots of quick time events.
Yippee! A new Switch port for me to eat up. And it’s not a cloud version? I can play this on the bus!
Looks like a good match for the SWOLED.
Crappy twist as to what the big bad is. Not worth it.
I love this series. Awesome to have this on Switch now. 🙂
Wow; this is impressive. I love weird ports that we never expected. I purchased Xenoblade 3DS on day one and I'm considering doing the same here.
Would love to try this on switch but I still have to check which buttons are which on my switch never managed to memorise nintendos control scheme !
This game was terrible. Really bad story telling. I don’t recommend even on a top of the line PC, let alone Switch.
@Chlocean Did you play through Xenoblade 3DS? I “previewed” it and found it to be way too compromised to play. Deleted right away. Glad I waited for the Switch version.
Still got those huge black bars so it's a pass for me.
@VoodooTrumpet I don't know that what this game has can be called a twist. It shows you right at the beginning what's going on. I liked this game but my favorite in the series is House of Ashes where a bunch of Marines run afoul of Akkadian demons. And it's nice to see an ancient culture other than Egypt, Rome or Greece as a setting for a game.
@bonjong23 I only got to like gaur plains back on Wii but I beat it on 3DS in only a couple of months. That's what I'm saying, it was compromised but I love weird compromised ports. I beat Donkey Kong Country on Gameboy Color and 007: Nightfire on GBA. THIS IS WHAT I LIVE FOR.
I hope they fixed the game breaking bug in Movie Night Mode where you can't progress. Huge issue on PS4/PS5
port until dawn
@Shambo It's "big brothers" Untill Dawn, and the Quarry, definitely did this! I haven't seen or heard anything about this series though, but I'm in for some campy horror fun!
(Projared did an amazing playthrough off the quarry btw. worth checking out! )
I think a better way to say that would be that "perhaps the game will be better recieved from Switch players". I also wanted this game for the console back when the closest things were The Sinking City and Call of Cthulhu. They should've announced this earlier to generate anticipation though.
I've been hearing this game runs like a movie on Switch, but not in a good way.
@SearchingS uhhh that was published by Sony so I doubt it.
