The latest UK boxed charts are here and it's a familiar scene for many, with no new entries into the top ten for this week (Cuphead's physical release came in at number eighteen, with the Switch version making up 79% of the copies sold).
God of War Ragnarok reclaimed the crown to come in at number one, climbing up two spots from last time, which GamesIndustry attributes to an increase in PS5 stock for the UK. Meanwhile, FIFA 23 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II slip down one spot each, with sales down 18% and 14% respectively. The Switch version of FIFA 23 continues to perform moderately well, making up 24% of the total split between platforms.
Otherwise, it's another strong showing from Nintendo this week, with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo Switch Sports, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons all making their usual appearances. Elsewhere, Sega's Sonic Frontiers also climbed up one spot from last week, with the Switch version once again out-performing the competition with 47% of the split.
Let's take a look at the top ten:

I imagine GOW will fall rather quickly on this list
@JayJ Maybe, but it's still good to see a strong performance from a game that insists on being single-player only. Especially given it's now been out more than a month.
@JayJ Like Horizon Forbidden West earlier in the year, the GoW Ragnarok PS5 bundle is currently the only way to buy a PS5 so will stay high in the charts whenever there's PS5 stock.
Still can't understand why they count S/V as two separated games..
GOW deserves top spot, amazing game and to see it beating multi plats fifa and call of duty is insane
@UltimateOtaku91,
I think the fact it's in a bundle is helping matters a little, most sites have stock of the GOW PS5 bundle, which is pretty good this close to Christmas, and like you say an awesome game as well.
@johnvboy that's true about the bundle helping it but theres other bundles that you can go for as well such as the fifa one and the call of duty one. Its not as bad as the horizon bundle which was the only one available back then.
@F_Destroyer yeah, it's pretty weird. Combined, they'd be #1, wouldn't they?
@uptownsoul,
You are starting to see more stock now, those bundles are still there on Amazon.
@JohnnyC "Its been out more than a month. " My man, Mario Kart 8 has been on the scene for years and it is hot on its heels. Amazing how quick some major titles drop out of the top 10 though, and others literally stay in for years.
i wonder if Elden Ring will bounce back in after winning GOTY
I will sleep well at night when GOW, FIFA, and COD drop off the top 10 list
@F_Destroyer Because that's how Nintendo release them, as 2 separate games. If they want them counted as one, they can release it as one, instead of artificially splitting it into 2 versions and trying to get some customers to buy 2 copies of the same game.
@smithyo Agreed, and that's a multiplayer which is where publishers know all the money is. My point is that it's nice to see a game which is exclusively single-player do well as it sends a clear message to publishers that if a game is well-made and engaging, there is demand for those types of games and a place for them alongside multiplayer and/or freemium games.
@RainbowGazelle that is not how that works otherwise Japanese charts [and practically other sale reports that always combine the versions] would follow that logic which they don’t. They are literally the same games released at same time, but minimal differences.
The games ARE also sold bundled together anyway too and those bundles are not counted separately because it’s nonsensical. It’s UK just being UK nothing more.
Ok, but how well did Reformed Rabbi Bill Clinton do?
@RainbowGazelle Releasing two version is great, but every other country count them as one (at least in Japan and US)
PS5 hardware has obviously had another fine week. Hmm...looks like Sony takes 2022.
I could perhaps understand the logic behind splitting S/V, were it not for the Dual Pack being counted as a separate product. That's what's really baffling me; the sales are split across three products, and buying both versions can count as either one or two sales depending on how you buy them.
Good week for Nintendo software.
It's crazy that MK8D will likely remain in the top 10 until at least late next year considering the DLC roadmap.
Gotta say. GOW Ragnarok was an great game.
@JohnnyC
Animal Crossing and Switch Sports will fall out first I imagine.
@EaglyTheKawaiiShika More like I just know how it's the type of game that gets the majority of it's sales early. Doesn't have the longevity that games like FIFA, COD, and Mario Kart will have.
How in the hell is Mariokart 8 still doing well?
@EaglyTheKawaiiShika Well good for the people who like it, not for me though, and I know a lot of people don't like it much either, including longtime GOW fans.
@EaglyTheKawaiiShika Okay and a lot of people don't. Just because something is a popular new release doesn't mean it's going to resonate with everyone and remain in a top spot long term. Sony's exclusives tend to have a history of being popular when they release only to drop down quickly over time, that's what I'm going off of. Same reason why Horizon Forbidden West and GT7 are no longer on that list.
@uptownsoul,
Still in stock..........................
@uptownsoul,
So it should, it's a pretty new console that's highly sort after, and when it's not highly sort after, it finds itself in high demand.
@uptownsoul,
I am pretty sure it's internationally acclaimed as well, not sure to be honest, but at the very least internationally celebrated.
