We've known about the Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life remake for a while now, so it would make sense that Harvest Moon — the Natsume-owned series that serves as a rival to Story of Seasons — would make its appearance sooner or later.
(For slightly more context: What is now known as "Harvest Moon" is an entirely different series; Marvelous XSEED lost the rights to the name years ago and has since re-titled the Harvest Moon series "Story of Seasons" in the west, while Natsume has lost the rights to the games themselves, but retained the name. It's... a long story, but that's the jist.)
And indeed it has, with the intriguingly-titled Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos, launching in Summer 2023. Here's what Natsume has to tell us about the game:
The land players will explore is known as Anthos, and is home to the Harvest Sprites, spirits that protect people and nature, as well as the goddess of nature known as the Harvest Goddess.
However, about 20 years ago, an unprecedented eruption in Anthos's volcanic region forced the Harvest Goddess and her Harvest Sprites to use all of their powers to protect the people. The people were saved, but the eruption left the villages cut off from each other.
Believing that the separated villages and people would one day be reconnected, the Harvest Goddess sent a bottle into the ocean with a letter and a magic key, then fell into a deep sleep...
The game is designed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Harvest Moon, which is a little cheeky seeing as the original Harvest Moon developers, Marvelous, are off doing their own thing, but hey. We're never going to turn down a free party.
We'll keep you all updated with more Winds of Anthos details as they emerge over the next few months, so stay tuned!

Wait, there's no trailer? 😅 Well that's exciting, looks great!
Oh hey it's been a while since their last game, hopefully they've been using that time well, can't wait to see this one in action.
Looking at the blurred environment from the logo above, I really hope the game will be in 3D environments like One World.
And please some same gender marriage option like current Story of Seasons.
Also, please the PS4 / PS5 version as well.
It’s going to be terrible. Let’s wait and see but it’ll be terrible.
@nessisonett
Harvest Moon One World last time wasn't really bad after some comparison with SoS Pioneers of Olive Town.
We will see if this new entry will be decent enough.
Is Harvest Moon the good one?
I was confuse this with Story of Seasons, and the OTHER bad Harvest Moon-y game that’s actually just bad.
@DeclanS98 Harvest Moon is the terrible one, Story of Seasons was once Harvest Moon until the creators lost the rights to the name. But honestly, I don't care much for SoS either.
@Daniel36 Exactly. Just play Stardew Valley. No point to these constant low quality farming sims.
We need to start specifying if we're talking about the real "Ranch Story" games or the fake trademark-protection games.
@nessisonett Yep, I just watch the trailers for the laughs at this point.
I really do hope they do eventually manage to find their footing and start putting out genuinely good games, if only because Story of Seasons I do think can be pretty hit-and-miss and Stardew Valley does nothing for me whatsoever. Really kind of hate everything about it to be honest.
I'm more looking forward to Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life than this. Knowing that the series now known as Harvest Moon usually cannot hold a candle to Story of Seasons, I think I'll skip it.
Plus, A Wonderful Life was my first (and only) Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons game, so I'd rather play that over a new entry into what is basically a knockoff, even though it retains the name of the original series.
HM: One World was incredibly underrated, so I’m excited for this.
After playing Harvestella and Rune Factory 5 I think I probably won't bother with either Story of Seasons and Harvest Moon though I will still gonna pick up A Wonderful Life Remastered.
Will probably get this heavily discounted, unless this turns out to be a banger. I really want the series to succeed because the world could use more farming simulators. The Harvest Moon games have been getting progressively better so here’s hoping they find their own farming sim formula.
I haven't liked the direction they've taken the IP in after the split. The graphics have been a major turn off. But, more to the point, Stardew Valley really challenged the genre, and there hasn't been a game to really reach that same bar. That's what they need to focus on more than anything. If they can't at least match the bar, then they better make a game that pays heavy homage to past works with a ton of QoL enhancements. I don't think I'd want to play anything else. Or, I guess go in like a Rune Factory direction? But, I don't think that's Natsume.
This was once my favorite series, now it's a sham. The Harvest Moon games are cheaply designed knockoffs by people who simply aren't up to 2022 game-making standards. And the Story of Seasons games are now being outsourced to a third-party developer with weak credentials and zero connection to the teams that produced the renowned classics in this series. I'm sorry to say that Bokujou Monogatari is dead, my friends.
You're still reporting about harvest moon?? Might as well cover some cheap match 3 shovelware crap
Oh brother, here we go again! Story of Seasons will always be the true Harvest Moon in my heart
Here's a great a idea!!!!! Harvest moon Mars! Wait! it will still be the same game on a different planet. Time to move on
I was wondering where HM had gotten to, feels like it’s been a while. I’ve been enjoying these ones more so than SOS, but Disney Dreamlight has been an absolute game changer for me. Really fantastic. Having said that, I will probably pick this up as well.
