The highlight of Disney and Marvel's 'D23 Expo' on the Switch front was easily a new 2D co-op platform adventure starring Mickey and friends.
Disney Illusion Island will support up to four players as they platform and puzzle solve and take down some epic bosses. Nintendo's website includes some screenshots of the game, so we've rounded them up into a single post:
You can learn more about Mickey's new adventure in our original story:
There's no solid release date just yet, but this game will be arriving at some point in 2023. We'll be sure to let you know when we hear an update. What do you think of the art style in the new game? Tell us below.

No solid release date?
I'm pretty sure Goofy said it was TBD actually.
T-B-D...?
You know... that Hakuna Matata guy...?
Timon?
It's releasing on Timon's Birth Day.
Simples. Now all we gotta do is wait...
Not a fan of that artstyle but here’s hoping the platforming is fun.
I hope it’s good.
@gcunit please tell me that was an intentional Compare the Market reference...
Disney's Rayman
A lot of the super old disney characters, especially Goofy, I find deeply disturbing for some reason. This game looks like it might be fun, but I couldn't handle it personally, although the art style here is much less creepy than the 'classic' style of these characters.
@Scapetti I mean... can you imagine someone doing that and it not being intentional?
@gcunit yes 🥺
@HotGoomba first game I thought of was Rayman Legends. My wife said it made her think of Guacamelee.
Really not feeling that 2d art style and animation, oof. Looks like a Flash game too. It looks beneath disney quality to me. Forgive me.
Looks unfinished and backgrounds just don’t have a lot of presence.
@HotGoomba
Exactly what I was thinking/hoping. I would dig if it played like ORIGINS / LEGENDS.
Looks very nice, I hope it also plays well!
The premise sounds great, but the execution looks dreadful.
Disney have the IP and the creativity, but they invest practically nothing into videogames and videogames make up a tiny percentage of their group revenue.
Complete waste of time if you ask me. Maybe one day they'll do it properly, but until then it'll be missed opportunities and terrible content.
I like how the character are drawn, new but still quite old school. But not the levels, visually.
Not a fan of what I've seen so far. It looks like a budget indie game.
Man I commented on the post where this showcase was announced and wished for a Rayman Origins/Legends-esque Mickey game. Got my wish but this is some monkey’s paw bull****
Is that what mickey and friends look like nowadays? Strange art style. Just give up and hire the cuphead guys to do this for you
This looks like a Disney parody from another cartoon
@gcunit idgi
I don’t know, it looks kind of bare to me from the screenshots.
I see what they're Trine to do.
Looks more like Animaniacs to me. Shrugs
@FishyS I don't get how black eyes are creepy. I mean I sorta do, but I sorta don't, they're not spiders, flies, a hive of chivalrous carnivorous black marbles coming to consume you.they're a mice a cat a dog a duck. I think the motion though and the eyelids are a different story. sometimes they are creepy
@TheSaneInsanity To be honest never really consciously noticed the black eyes, but they are a little weird. Also, Goofy is not a dog, he's a horrible mutant monster. Definitely not just the eyes are the issue because I also find Cuphead really creepy which uses different eyes. The weird bouncy motion and just something about that classic art style is slightly nightmare-inducing. What game has carnivorous black marbles?
@FishyS The motion is definitely the culprit. the marbles are something I made up as a horror example of black beady things. I made them chivalrous because I didn't want you to have nightmares about them coming to consume you in the middle of the night, no they'll approach you, wait for you to get a weapon, and attack.
