Rumours of a Silent Hill revival from Konami have been doing the rounds for quite some time now and it looks like it's all-but-confirmed thanks to a new rating from The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea (cheers, Gematsu).
Titled, Silent Hill: The Short Message, the rating comes from UNIANA, a company that regularly publishes Konami games in Japan. Alongside The Short Message, eFootball 2023 was also rated at the same time, perhaps indicating that the new Silent Hill title is indeed the real deal.

As for what it might entail, well, that's anyone's guess right now. The title itself may insinuate that this will be another brief experience to act as a precursor to the main event, similar to 2015's P.T (Silent Hills) demo from creators Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro. Let's hope this one doesn't get unceremoniously cancelled.
The big question, of course, is whether this new title will come to Switch. We like to think of ourselves as optimists here at Nintendo Life, but even we're a bit sceptical about this one. With the likes of Resident Evil 4, Dead Space, The Callisto Protocol, and Alan Wake II targeting PlayStation and Xbox systems, we won't be holding our breath for Silent Hill.
Still, stranger things have happened!
What do you think Silent Hill: The Short Message is? A full game? A demo? Will it even come to Switch? Tell us in the comments!

Rumor is Konami is making some kind of Silent Hill mobile game…?
I'll go with the stereotypical Konami joke and say it's a new pachinko game.
@progx There has never been a rumour of a mobile Silent Hill game. There has, however, been talks of an unreleased Silent Hill game, internally known as ‘Sakura’ that sends you mobile SMS messages. Konami had plans to release it years ago, but it never happened. Various people from games media have commented on it in the past, including Alanah Pearce. https://youtu.be/CCnwYyLE2Uc
@calbeau Pachinko is illegal in Korea, so a hard no, jokes aside
They should port Shattered Memories to Switch.
@media_hobbit Ah, didn't know that. TIL. Thanks.
Very excited for this, but my guess is it will not come to the Switch. Would love to be wrong though! The more places it can be played, the better!
We need Switch 2 as soon as possible. It's missing all these promising looking horror games.
@media_hobbit oh, okay, cool. I’ll never play it. Wasn’t a fan of the series to begin with.
@MrFox unfortunately unlikely since Konami lost the final source code for the games. That's part of why the HD collection turned out so bad. Not to mention they barely have the developer any time at all considering this.
This is the best news I could’ve awoken to today. I hope all these rumors are true. At the very least, ports of 1/2/3 are in dire need.
when a game is rated in Asia that all but confirms its real
Given what we got from Metal Gear Survive, this might be a Strategy RPG or maybe a dance game
@progx Alrighty…
@MrFox I think Konami's best bet would be to work with the folks behind Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition and turn it into an official release. I doubt that would happen and I don't know the technical requirements to do so, but it's undoubtedly the most authentic representation of the game.
@Moistnado ... Among others.
The only thing that we do know is that it won't be on switch lol
@MrFox the devs who worked on HD collection were perfectly fine. The issue was the time given to them to complete the project which off the top of my head was less than a year, plus the uncompleted code given to them to start.
@Olliemar28 that would likely be the best option at this point other than a full remake. Pretty unlikely though.
@Would_you_kindly Meaning they choose to not get easy money. Right now the Switch is a money making machine for any dev, not releasing games for Switch means third party could easily lose millions from the large install base the platform currently has.
@Serpenterror PS4 has a much bigger install base than ps5 doesn't mean Devs aren't starting to move away from it
@Serpenterror well, Konami has put many of their games on Switch so maybe this could come?
And ofc it’s Konami, they want ez money, so put it on Switch
But I doubt it nonetheless
Ah yes, the Silent Hill Pinball game that all fans have been asking for
Hmm...no idea what this could be. I can't see Konami not supporting Switch, they have had some amazing success with the system over in Japan recently.
@GrailUK there are only like few games that Konami recently released that has not been on Switch.
E football and Metal Gear Survive.
Otherwise, most of Konami’s games are on Switch. Like GetsuFumaDen and then the game collections.
I was playing MGS 2 HD this past weekend on my Series X and damn, the nostalgia for Konami when they actually cared about their gaming division between 86 and '08 (and that's stretching it) got me feeling sad.
@MrFox I know James' voice actor was at least one of the problems if not the only one. Though I believe after the voices were recorded, he relented so since the work was done already they decided to include both.
3 seems to be the one that only had new voices and the official reason seems to say there were technical and logistical reasons. I'm guessing maybe poor quality in some fashion, loss of significant portions of the audio, or a permissions issue like 2.
Really now? Well I'll just wait and see. Best not to hold my breath with Konami.
