We feel like we've been waiting forever for the original Fear Effect to make its return, ever since the remaster Fear Effect Reinvented was announced for the Nintendo Switch in 2017.
As you might recall, this version of the action-adventure title will capture the "same spirit and atmosphere" as the original PlayStation game from the year 2000 but will include "drastically improved" visuals, tweaked controls, and various other exciting extras.
The development team Sushee and publisher Forever Entertainment have now premiered a teaser trailer - mentioning how the game will be "coming sooner than you think" to Switch and multiple other platforms. Here's the back story:
"Wi-Ming Lam, the daughter of a Hong Kong Triad boss, has been kidnapped. Take the roles of the mercenary trio: Hana, Glas, and Deke, and try to find the missing girl."
Fear Effect Reinvented will be broken up into three separate campaigns, includes a modern third-person perspective camera (as can be seen above), a cover-based battle system, and also survival horror elements. Additionally, there'll be items to collect, puzzles to solve, and three difficulty modes to beat.

Never played the original, but the art style in this is certainly fetching!
This looks pretty good!! I'm gonna keep an eye out for it!
Looks like a nice action game. Hopefully it runs smoothly on Switch.
Artistically very impressive. Thankful it's third person and not first. Not really a fan of the blood effect or the lack of reaction when the player takes damage. Regardless, I'll keep tabs on this one.
Feels like only worth $9.99.
Original PlayStation version was great, this looks great as well, love the art style 😀
Wow looks amazing.
I dont know why, but this game reminds me of perfect dark.
Oh right, remember playing that game. Well, I remember the scene where you flash the guard.
Not sure everyone would agree that the visuals are drastically improved.
They're moving from flat-shaded characters on prerendered backdrops to full 3D with comic book outlines on everything. It's a somewhat different aesthetic overall.
That said, I never played Fear Effect, so I'm not one to judge whether the new clothes suit the emperor.
Old enough to have played both ps1 games at release. Not too sure how I feel about going back.
Reminds me a lot of Max Payne 3
This looks good. I like 3rd person action games. Like person above giving me a futuristic max Payne 3 vibe. Also not keen on the blood effect when shot but overall looks good.
Physical? Price?
Will deffo pick this up.
Loved Fear Effect 1 & 2 back in the day, if this is decent it’s an easy buy. I don’t have my hopes up, though.
Looks fun, a bit like XIII.
Here's hoping it's an improvement of Fear Effect 2, christ that was a godawful mess.
Small correction on the article, Sushee was the original developer but went out of business a few years ago. The game is being developed by MegaPixel Studio now. Their logo is at the end of the trailer too, but the text with their name is hard to see.
All my friends were hardcore into the series back in the day, never got a chance to play them personally, but this looks pretty decent
I remember this game being so cool and edgy back in the day. I think I rented it once or twice. Haha. I'll keep an eye on this.
It actually looks fun; I'll keep it in mind.
The original two games were great. They had just enough of that Resident Evil ps1 feel, but were totally their own games.
Unfortunately, after that crappy Fear Effect game was released a few years ago, I don't have high hopes for this one. I think they'll either make an ok game that looses everything that made the originals so great, or it will be a cluster f like the most recent game was.
@Lusephur I enjoyed the second game. It's been a few years since I played it, but I do remember the story bring you to a hell like place? The gameplay was fun like the first one though. Either way, I didn't regret playing it. Now the most recent game was trash.
Single Player Third person shooters are severely lacking on Switch. Hope this game will be of higher quality with features improving replay ability too. Multiplayer( split screen) would be most welcome!
As a kid I used to stand in the games section in HMV looking at PS1 games and I remember the box art of Fear Effect always caught my eye. Now it looks like I'll finally get a chance to play it. That trailer doesn't look too exciting but I think I'll still give it a go at some point
@Type_Trubbish
It was a very impressive game visually for its time, the use of fmv in game worked wonders.
