Yes, Street Fighter really is 35 years old. Capcom's first ever fighting game launched in arcades on 30th August 1987, and the company hasn't ever really looked back. It is the fighting game series everyone knows and respects. So it's absolutely deserving of a very stunning website to commemorate the series' 35th anniversary.
Capcom opened the website earlier today and it really is a looker! On the front page, you can filter comments from developers, artists, voice actors, and more. Fan messages are shared on the page, which details people's passion for the series along with which game was their first. And there's a rather nice selection of high-quality art. The comments section is being updated constantly, and you can leave your own message about your love of the Street Fighter franchise over on the page!
Our favourite part has to be the history section, though, which lays out the series' illustrious history in pretty simple detail. How many versions of Street Fighter II are there? Well, here they all are. You can even click on each of the mainline numbered entries to get a little bit more info, along with a trailer or gameplay video.
This is sure to be a celebratory hub for all things Street Fighter, especially with the upcoming release of Street Fighter 6 on PlayStation and Xbox next year. On Switch, we at least got the rather excellent Capcom Fighting Collection this year, which doesn't have many Street Fighter games on there, but it does have a couple of crossovers! But if you're looking for a Street Fighter compilation on Switch, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection is the way to go.
Share your Street Fighter memories with us in the comments!

Good on them for not selling them as NFTs.
That sure is a nice website! I'll definitely have to take some more time to browse it. My first SF game was SF II Turbo on SNES and I remember how insanely expensive the cartridge was back in the day for 15 year (or so) old me. Vega is still my favourite fighter, especially when you could fight on his home turf in Spain. Great times!
@AlanaHagues
We also got the excellent Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection on Switch.
Edit: this collection has now been added to the article.
@Mioaionios Oh gosh yeah, thanks for reminding me! So many compilations 😅
@AlanaHagues
You're welcome.
Not so many SF compilations on Switch LOL. Yep, the website looks really nice.
Still remember the first time I saw a Street Fighter 2 arcade machine when visiting South of the Border. Had never heard of it before & seeing a Ryu & Ken among the characters, me & my brother thought the game was some sort of Ninja Gaiden spinoff.
I can't believe the death of Gorbatchev wasn't reported here considering he was in a Super Nintendo game.
If anyone is looking for current street fighter action on the Switch, Ultra SF 2 is alive and kicking!
I only got into Street Fighter earlier this summer with World Warrior on Capcom Arcade Stadium but I'd always been an avid fan of the series prior to it, watching almost any videos I could on the games. From the biggest upsets to the smallest yet most impactful glitches, I consumed every bit of info I could find. I've gone as far as picking up both SF/Capcom fighting game collections currently on Switch and loving them as well. If I had to pick a current favourite out of all of them, it'd definitely be Alpha 2 (with Pocket Fighter close behind) but they're all really fun in their own unique ways. Genuinely considering getting a PS5 almost solely for VI now, this series is fantastic.
Been playing since one of my older cousins gave me the SNES version of II. Broke 2 controllers (from excessive play not rage) playing Super. Sparked a love of fighting games that persists to this day.
Lovin it. Half off topic but I think anyone complaining about Splatoon 3 not having enough content after 5 years should look at the History tab on this SF site, that run from 91-99 across multiple consoles is amazing. And I still play every single of em
@glaemay Hm... I think that he appeared only in Zangief's story in Street Fighter Zero 2/Street Fighter Alpha 2.
Just a year after me, like many others I grew up with this series. Looking forward to Street Fighter 6.
That 30th anniversary collection is a fantastic museum piece, and really how all retro compilations should be done in terms of presentation and supplementary content (looking at you, Mario 3D All-Stars).
3DS SF4 port is not mentioned. Perhaps Capcom is not very proud of it..
Happy 35th anniversary Street Fighter!
@nkarafo
They should, it is great!!
I got it for $5 on the eShop.
"and the company hasn't ever really looked back"
accept every 5 years to release a collection or bundle on every console generation since SF2 was released lol.
30th Anniversary was a great compilation.
I still need to try SF4, 5 and eventually 6 LOL
In terms of Street Fighter, I'd love to see Capcom make a new:
... Wun can only hope.
@Mioaionios Not really excellent. The Street Fighter Alpha 3 should be the Max version.
@wuntyme8 Street Fighter EX was made by Arika.
@Gus_Campos … and the IP is owned by Capcom, sooo yea can still get it made.
@wuntyme8 No, the IP is not owned by Capcom. Capcom owns those main series characters like Ken, Chun Li, and etc that it licensed to Arika. The game itself and the other characters are owned by Arika.
@Gus_Campos From what I’ve read, Capcom owns the IP & their legacy characters of course… however they let Arika keep the rights to their characters only.
Could be wrong without knowing the specifics of the unique contract initially signed decades ago now that may have been amended at some point since then behind the scenes, but either way… Capcom could likely technically make a new game without Arika’s characters themselves or outsource to a different developer again and just call it something else- a spiritual successor if you will.
I’d just hope they keep the blocky PS1 aesthetic, slower floaty feel than the mainline entries, dope soundtrack and enough to differentiate it to feel like it’s own distinct experience.
… Wun can only hope.
