Remember the 'exploded' Game Boy consoles we showed you a while back? Well, the company behind them, GRID Studio, is back with a more up-to-date example: Nintendo Switch Joy-Con.
While we'd argue that getting Nintendo to repair your Joy-Con is a more sensible course of action when they finally succumb to Joy-Con Drift, there is something rather appealing about having them framed in this fashion.
As with other GRID products, care has been taken to disassemble the controller and show off all of the internal parts; it's remarkable how simple the innards of the Joy-Con actually are.
The catch for most people is likely to be the cost; at £170, this isn't cheap – but hey, at least it can serve as an ice-breaker at your next dinner party.

Worst controllers for a Nintendo platform ever, and that's the opinion of someone who played a Virtual Boy and hated the Wii's waggle controls.
If you're willing and able to take apart your Joy-Con, you're probably also able to change the thumbstick and keep using the controllers. Much better alternative than making a disassembly like this, and much better than paying 170 bucks for it.
£170?! It's missing pieces and the rails are upside down.
Maybe the true beauty is on the inside of the Joy Cons.
Nope. Still hate them.
@Magician
Why do you feel this? /genq
You’ll forever be trying to straighten the picture on the wall.
I agree, not a fan of the Joy Con’s at all. If it wasn’t for the Pro Controller I would’ve skipped a lot of games on the Switch.
Each to their own, but I wouldn't even put this up on a wall in a cupboard. No appeal for me whatsoever!
I'd rather have a working gamepad. Both of my pro controllers started drifting around the same time. A $70 controller should not do this. If I buy another gamepad this generation, it will certainly be third party.
Tbh, I consider the Pro Controller the default Switch controller for me. I've had one basically ever since I've had a Switch and mostly play docked... heck even when I've played portable most times I use a mobile phone neckholder to fasten my Switch in front of me which frees up my hands to use the Pro Controller still.
The Joycons have always felt too compact, uncomfortable, cheap and inadequate for me (and of course drift is an issue). I hope Nintendo either fixes and redesign's/upgrades the Joycons and/or includes a new Pro Controller (maybe with analog triggers & haptic feedback like the PS5 Dual Sense?) for their next Switch console release.
... Wun can only hope.
@chardir
And with the spelling of “Directuion” - must try harder
@DioBrando
wow the pros drift too, this worries me from a preservation point of view, supposed to get my joycons back tomorrow
Nintendo doesn't have a great track record for sticks in general. If you look at first party N64 controllers, it's extremely rare to find one now that doesn't have a stick that just sits on the side of the gate. Fortunately there are some quality Thursday party stuff being made. Wish I could find this old Logitech Xbox controller that that they used to make. Super ergonomic and responsive. Way better than the ones they make now.
Or you could just, you know, learn how to take them apart as well as the joystick and fix the drift. In most cases you don’t even have to replace the joystick. It just needs a good cleaning. I have fixed all mine, pro controllers included.
@NintoRich
Lol, that's just sad.
@acNewUpdates theyre the most common nintendo controller to break on you, theyre expensive, small, ect. every joycon ive fixed ends up drifting again, theyre not ideal in both comfort and function
nintendo of japans indirect "solution" is to pay for their yearly repair subscription instead of yknow, fixing the design within the company themselves
This is terrible, just take them apart with a screw driver and tweezer and replace the stick.
Something something preservation
@wuntyme8 lol. Sorry, but I’ve got to laugh at the neckholder, but also totally understand. I got one of those clips that you fasten to the pro controller, and the consoles atop the controller. Just so I can play in bed when I’m in a hotel for work.
@geo-shifter Haha it’s a cheap lifehack that works as a decent compromise. Got it from a dollar store… Ironically, I’ve never used it for my phone as the manufacturers intended lol ¯(ツ)/¯
You can put any useless object in a frame and hang it on the wall. Used postage stamps, outdated coins, a broken plate... and now joycon.
Fun fact: at no point does this article say Joy-Cons are bad, so the people saying “I agree” aren’t actually agreeing with anything (:
@Magician - I still hate the Wii remotes more. 😆
Dinner party? Are you insinuating I have a life?
OK but why does it say DIRECTUION
Where are the capture and home buttons? Why haven't the shells been taken apart into their three pieces?
I think this looks quite cool but for the price I would just buy some joycons and disassemble them myself
dug up some garbage in the trash can and nailed it to my wall
