Nintendo has confirmed its next Switch Online + Expansion N64 release will be Wave Race 64. This jet ski racer was originally released in 1996/97 and is returning later this week on August 19th.
Again, this version will include the Kawasaki banners (like the Wii U release), and in Japan, the game will also feature Rumble Pak support. Nintendo has now also shared multiple screenshots of the NSO version on its official website in Japan.
So, without further ado, here's a full round up of direct screenshots:

Another series dying for a comeback!
I really hope Nintendo puts out Pilotwings 64. These launch window N64 are fun.
Amazing game. The water blew my mind when I got this at launch.
This game still holds up today too.
Isn't there a cheat code to make the announcer sarcastic
Never played this so now I finally get to see what everyone is always so excited for with this game.
1080 snowboarding please
I wish they'd do a Blue Storm rebuild for the Switch.
Would love to see Pilotwings 64.
Never really understood why this was held back from previous VCs.
@Zach that was on gamecube
Oh yes! Love wave race!
Wooooo!
BTW, this website keeps trying to make me download a file called pbcas.bin - what's going on there?
@dystome Thanks for mentioning it! It was driving me crazy as Ive been seeing that for a week and I thought my phone was compromised. Googled it and couldn’t find anything. Even deleted chrome just in case. But it seems I’m not the only one with the problem and it seems it’s coming from this website. The team should really look into it ASAP to be sure it’s not some kind of malware.
Still hope they add Nuclear Strike to the game library 🤞🏻
@YoshiF2 Hey! We have emailed @dystome and are looking into it now
So many unloved franchises. Why Nintendo? Why???
@Captain-N That would be a great choice after Wave Race.
@DreamlandGem @YoshiF2 Update!
I installed the browser extensions 'Privacy Badger' and 'HTTPS Everywhere' and it stopped happening.
I had forgotten the whole dolphin riding thing, will have to jump on this again.
Damn I loved this game. I loved the N64 like no other console, before or after. Gaming, before the weight of the world crushed the spirit from me.
@KevinLo9 It was pretty awesome. The way the water pushed back against your jetski was unlike any game I had played.
all right, where are the filters then? they're still missing for N64 emulator, don't they?
@Ploppy gaming before the weight of the world crushed the spirit from gaming you mean... maybe the 2 are not a coincidence?
Can’t wait to play this again! But how do you ride the dolphins?!?
@sweetchuck they're going for the 'HD' look, with the resolution bombed.. not really room for classic filters with that look i presume...
This game was pretty cool before most of y'all were born but it's hard to remember why when you play it today, without nostalgia it's just a boring clunky waste of time and I'm surprised Nintendo can't see how lame they're being for trying to make these releases a big deal when they could be doing Gamecube or GBA titles that haven't aged like milk.
@romanista yeah, but I one would expect the opposite .. it would benefit more from appropriate filters then "razor" sharp "HD" visuals, I think that comes down to personal preference
one of the best n64 games ever
To my shame, I've never played any Wave Race game. I had no idea you could ride a dolphin
I loved this on the N64. The water effects were pure class back then. They followed this with the much improved sequel on the Cube. Personally, like most games from this generation, I prefer the newer versions. I would play the Cube game.....I'll give this one a play but I probably won't play if for long. These games haven't aged well.
@KevinLo9 that’s exactly what I remember for the GameCube version, that was my intro to wave race
I find most N64 games on the service have aged perfectly fine, which makes venturing into these comments an exercise in confusion and existential despair. Anyway, never played this one. I'll try it out.
Still one of my favorite racing games.
So excited for this, though I'm not sure I'll be able to unlock the dolphin again, doing every stunt within the time limit took me forever as a kid on N64 after school, but I'll try!
@Bondi_Surfer To ride the dolphin you have to do every stunt and go through every ring in Stunt Mode, see the GameFAQs description under Secrets:

"Don't sweat it!"
Finally this gem comes back! This baby is going straight to the top of my chill-out group on the Home screen. I can play Wave Race for hours... For months!
@Beaucine don't listen to the haters; if you're not turned off by classic 3D genre-defining graphics and gameplay then it's not you who has the problem!
Not everything from the late 90s early 3D era still holds up today, but the great ones still do, and Wave Race is definitely among them.
One reason why Wave Race has aged well is its simplicity. It's just you, the physics, and a small handful of courses. From a modern perspective of dipping into a retro game for a quick hit of fun, it's the perfect balance. Play it for 25 minutes and you'll have everything unlocked. Personally, if they would release 1080 Snowboarding I'd probably barely give it a glance: too much depth tied to a type of game that has been vastly improved by the successive console generations. Similarly to the way that Banjo Kazooie is a fun breezy adventure today while Donkey Kong 64 would be a nightmare slog.
@mattesdude cant be dying for a comeback if your already dead...
@SpaceboyScreams Speak for yourself. This game is a blast. I was born after this game released and it's probably my favorite racing game outside of the Mario Kart series. No nostalgia attached. Super fun physics, tight controls, great vibes. The thought of being able to play it online is making me consider getting the expansion pack.
I gasped when I saw the trailer while scrolling YouTube. I don't know why but I was really convinced they were done with N64 content.
One of my favorite N64 games. Can’t wait to try it on the Switch this week.
@dystome @YoshiF2 @DreamlandGem I’ve also been experiencing the same thing since yesterday morning, I’m glad I’ve finally discovered that it’s not just me. I also only get it on Nintendo Life.
@Markiemania95 for me it’s getting worse each day @dreamlandgem now a message pops up in my phone saying that this download will cancel all my other (non-existent) downloads and keeps the site crashing constantly @dystome
@Markiemania95 @YoshiF2 Thank you for this, I have passed this on to the relevant people, we are aware & working on it
Excellent, Wave Race 64 is one of my favorites.
Now just waiting for Pilot Wings 64.
