In July last year, Ubisoft and Nintendo revealed Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope - a sequel to the 2017 tactical turn-based Switch release Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.
Last we heard, the game was "coming 2022", and it seems it's still on track. In the French company's latest earnings report, Sparks of Hope is mentioned within the current fiscal year lineup ending March 31, 2023.
It'll be released alongside games like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Skull & Bones as highlighted by the official report (via Stephen Totilo of Axios):
"For 2022-23 we look to return to significant topline growth. It will be mostly driven by a diverse line-up of premium games, including Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora™, Mario + Rabbids®: Sparks of Hope and Skull & Bones®, as well as other exciting titles. This growth will also benefit from our Free-to-Play releases, especially those based on our biggest IPs."
In somewhat related news, Ubisoft has also announced it will be bringing its China-exclusive Rabbids game to the west.

The headline is a little clickbaity. This doesn't exactly confirm a 2022 release; only that Ubisoft are keen to have this out before the end of the 2022-23 financial year.
But also, knowing Ubisoft's tendency to release games prematurely and supplement them with stupidly oversized patches, I think their practices are reason enough to suspect that this will be out sooner rather than later.
The first one was so damn good. The wait is killing me!
While the games are good for what they are, I'm just not a fan of the grid-based gameplay. Mario + Rabbids just isn't for me. I'm also nor an Avatar guy, so the hype for the game and the sequel movie are lost on me. Not the blue-people Avatar, anyways.
Now, Last Airbender, on the other hand--that's my favorite animated series. Wish Ubisoft were working on that, instead. Though, there are rumors that an open-world ATLA RPG is in the works. No word on the publisher, but I'd presume THQ Nordic who does most of Nickelodeon's stuff. I'll flip out if that ends up being true. I just hope the Switch could handle it.
@Not_Soos Haha Had they released the last airbender that would have been amazing! Hehe
But ehm the Avatar they are releasing will come out for Switch? Shocked Pikachu meme because I would love that too
Yeah, I still expect this game to release this year. I expect some sort of Ubisoft Forward to reveal the release date or perhaps it gets its own spotlight in the Summer Game Fest.
I've been googling this game for a release date for a while now. I'm really eager to play it.
@Not_Soos I believe they are getting rid of the grid for the new Mario + Rabbids game.
I'm expecting an October release to start off the quarter strong. Maybe Nintendo will throw Bayonetta 3 into October as well. Then Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can finish off the year strong for the Switch in November.
This is probably my most anticipated game of the year now Zelda has been delayed. Although Arceus has raised my hopes for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
It’ll drop to No.2 if Xbox announce Goldeneye. Just give me Grant Kirkhope soundtracks
For a short while there I honestly thought this game was vaporware. You mean it will actually be coming out this year and not like get another delay like Breath of the Wild 2 or Metroid Prime 4 or Bayonetta 3 or Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp?
Cant wait to play it.
It is a touch strange how we haven’t heard much since it was announced… the previous one came out a couple of months after it’s official announcement…
Maybe they announced it earlier than usual, because they were annoyed at how the project was leaked last time?
Releasing alongside Skull and Bones? I sure hope not. That would mean the game is never coming out.
I still have the feeling this'll get delayed to maybe January/February 2023 since we've both heard nothing about it since the reveal and I'm struggling to see where in the year it could slot into thanks to Pokemon and other such things. I really liked the first game (save for the glitches) so hopefully I'm proven wrong.
Call me suspicious, but I’ve seen Nintendo pull all sorts of smoke and mirrors stuff for a few years now. I predict there will be a new switch in March 23 and it will have Zelda, Rabbids and Bayonetta as launch titles.
I don't know if this will be mine.
I’m really conflicted on this game. On the one hand, Ubisoft has not done some great things these past couple of years. On the other hand, this is a smaller studio and Nintendo supervised, so those things probably didn’t happen here, and the original was a game that clearly had love and care go into it. Judging from how big the discount got on said original, I might wait until this game drops to a similarly criminally low price.
I got everything out of the original game, absolutely loved it! Can't wait for the sequel.
So...we are getting a Mario game for Christmas? or maybe 3/10/23?
I'm so super frustrated because they cut the grid out of the battlefield for... more randomness? I hope there will be a demo to try out how the new battles feel.
Under normal circumstances this would have been a day-1-buy for me...
As someone who finally got into and fell in love with Fire Emblem via 3DS. I absolutely love Mario+Rabbids both the campaign and all the hours we put into the co op mode. Can't wait for the sequel, hope they include co op again and add more to it, like getting more money or/and skill points.
