Update #1 [Tue 7th Jun, 2022 13:30 BST] Did you tune in to the Limited Run Games Showcase yesterday? If you did, then you'll know that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge was one of the 33 games the physical game publisher showed off during its 2022 presentation. And now, the store page is officially open!
You can wishlist the upcoming Dotemu and Tribute Games fighter right here, and the lovely little box will only set you back $34.99. And while we didn't get a look at it, Limited Run Games also confirmed that there will be a collector's edition, which will come with a steelbook, a box inspired by a VHS, a miniature arcade replica, a strategy guide, and a Playmates figure of the villain himself — Shredder. Cowabunga, dude!
In a pretty genius marketing tactic — and a wonderful callback to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game — if you pick up a physical copy of the game, you'll get a free Pizza Hut personal pan pizza. Could we think of anything better to go with the game than this? Not really.
We'll let you know as soon as a release date drops for this highly-anticipated game!
Original article [Wed 25th May, 2022 01:30 BST] Another physical release will be making its way across to the Nintendo Switch in the near future. This time around it's the bodacious beat 'em up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge.
Limited Run Games will be the distributor of this one. Here's a look at the Collector's Edition which will include a reversible cover, sprite stickers, and art booklet. In an LRG first, it'll be coming to Xbox as well as PlayStation and Switch.
"COWABUNGA! Kick shell with the boys in a bodacious beat-em-up on PS4, Switch & XBOX! Our release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge comes to LRG + major retailers this year! Tune in to LRG3 on 6/6 for a Collector's Edition reveal! Hang tight for more info, dudes!"
As noted, this one is "coming soon" and more details about the Collector's Edition will be revealed next month on 6th June. And in case you're wondering, Merge Games will distribute the physical version in Europe, and Happinet and H2 Interactive will be handling the rest in Asia.
Will you be adding this one to your Switch library when it arrives at some point in 2022? Tell us below.

Not too sure about the physical edition, but definitely keen on the game!
Sweet, it's coming to retailers. None of the usual LRG BS then, there'll be sufficient quantities.
Can't wait! I'll be buying the physical without a doubt.
This physical release will not include any of the eventual DLC, as per the industry's rapidly-developing worst practices, I assume.
Xbox version wins because of the green case
@CANOEberry Yes unfortunatley and then do a "complete" type edition ala streets of rage
The collector's edition from LRG will be a day 1 purchase for me. Even though we have no idea what's in it yet.
Ok now I have to get it physical, I mean come on, how could I not! And I’m sure others agree!
@link3710 Most of LRG's Switch releases are also sold at Best Buy or Amazon, at least here in the US... And they have open pre-orders when they list games on their website, so they make enough to meet demand plus extra for Best Buy.
Tempting, as long as it drops close to release day. I think LRG does good work, it's just frustrating if you actually buy the games to play and must wait months after release to enjoy them.
If we could get a release date, that would be awesome too.
Wondering about the special edition price! 🤔
"Here's a look at the Collector's Edition which will include a reversible cover, sprite stickers, and art booklet."
That's not how I read the tweet...? Looks like this is the standard edition that will be available in retail etc., it states "each edition includes: Reversible cover..." etc. The tweet then says "Tune in to LRG3 on 6/6 for a Collector's Edition reveal!". Therefore the picture is not of the Collector's Edition, which won't be revealed til 6th June, and the pictures is infact reflective of all versions, and the Collector's edition will have more things in addition to what we see here.
Containing the art book, stickers, and reversible covers in all versions (if I've read that correctly) is pretty sweet and makes me even more keen to buy it and happy to pay full price.
It reminds me of the retail version of DDLC that I got and came with some fun stuff that fitted in the box, and the Sonic Mania Plus with slipcase and art book. Personally I love games that are in a standard size and fit with the others on my shelf, but contain extra things.
Given the massive interest in this particular game, and the popularity of Turtles collectables in general, I strongly assume the "Collector's Edition" will be much bigger and more elaborate the what's pictures here - probably more similar to the one we've recently seen announced for the Cowabunga collection. I actively avoid huge collector's boxes in 99% of cases as I don't have space, and as they seem to come out for every other game released nowadays they are no longer a novelty to me. That said, the Cowabunga collection one is very tempting to me, so I'm interested to see what this one shall be, though my wallet fears it!
It worries me that they’re doing everything but announcing a release date.
Dear God in Heaven are they ever going to give a concrete release date? I think I'll be in my grave by the time they do.
@link3710 i hope so as i can't buy from LRGames
Does anyone now if there will be a physicial Release within the EU?
15 Bucks for Shipping sums up after a while ...
@The_Top_Loader @CANOEberry
I’m sure you’re both right - the cartridge won’t include any post-release updates or DLC, and LRG or whoever will sell an “all-in-one” edition a year or so later.
Nonetheless, I’ll be buying - the game looks too good not to! I’m a part of the problem, I know. 😔
@Teksetter No accusations will be forthcoming from me. If nobody buys the first physical edition, we won't get a complete one later on, will we? Besides, I get to ask you about it or read your opinion before buying 😜
Seriously, though, I'm trying hard to respect people's choices here, as long as they're informed, as yours are.
EDIT: I've gnashed my teeth loudly about the failure of Celeste to appear at retail in this country, and these developers are in my own backyard. So I will discreetly not criticize here, hahahha.
@Lordd_G whast Look again !
Switch Box are the best !
I know I'm in the minority here but why are developers still using pixel art. I get that nostalgia is strong when it comes to retro style games but handrawn graphics like those used in SoR4 for example look so much better. Pixelated games were a result of hardware limitations which are non-existent these days. I'm just over it. Had my fill of pixelated games back in the day.
I’m glad we’re getting our own release of the game here in Europe. I’m fed up of seeing ‘Limited Run Games release’.
I really hope we get stickers too. I simply cannot buy physical game releases unless they come with stickers. Luckily for me every other flipping physical game release seems to come with stickers these days.
This release date feels like candyman. Will something happen if anyone whispers what it is? Just announce the date already.
@ReaperMelia Untrue. The demand of that moment, nothing beyond. Miss the window, miss it forever. Screw your bills and other things adults have to deal with and buy RIGHT NOW! There's several games I want, that are now ridiculously inflated, no thanks to Limited RIPOFF Games. (It's not just them, but the whole 1-print business model that's awful)
*Will gladly be buying the standard retail release.
@Teksetter Oh You obviously havent seen me on the Tubes .. believe me i'm part of the problem too, I certainly will be buying it as well regardless of the later DLC so do not get me wrong here lol (i just can't help myself either)
Looking forward to this game — I won’t be buying the physical copy — but looking forward to spending my Microsoft points on something finally.
@EVIL-C Most of them are games that wouldn't get any physical release if they didn't take the one-print model. It's too expensive for the majority of indie studios to do a general retail release unfortunately. I've missed out on LRG releases I wish I could have gotten too, but the reality is that the only other alternative for the vast majority of their games is no physical release at all. And as I said before, there are still LRG-partnered retailers that sell their games at standard retail price (Best Buy in the US, PNP Games in Canada, Amazon is starting to sell some games from their distributed line now too). They're also beginning to roll out their own retail stores that will carry their games as well, so it will be even easier to get a hold of them in the near future.
@Teksetter @The_Top_Loader @CANOEberry
It looks like Casey Jones isn't a playable character in the game, so I hope they add him as DLC
How about a goddamn release date?!
Even the Gamepass Digital Tower gets a release.
Do I get that right? A physical version outside of Limited Run comes to Europe and Asia? So no expensive crap, getting this as a cartridge?
I bet people who preorder this can’t wait to play it 6 months after it’s available digitally!
Good to see that LRG aren’t distributing it in Europe and it’s someone else. Should be able to get this then!
@CANOEberry *Best practices. It’s thanks to consumers that they do this. They wouldn’t otherwise.
Probably will grab but I don't really care for limited run games.
@Orokosaki Yeah then you can watch the game you paid $50 for go on sale digitally for 10 while you're still waiting for your copy.
I'll wait for another retailer...if it's June 6 with LRG, it won't be 2022 anymore. Standard editions with them is 9 months.
@LittleGhost yes and by the time they get their physical versions there’ll be DLC so it’ll be obsolete anyway!!
Not a fan of limited run games. I'll probably pick this up digitally, on a sale at some point.
We know everything about this game except when it will be released.
This will go nicely with the Cowabunga Collection when that comes out.
Surprise surprise, once again no mention of a release date. Much like Palpatine's "somehow" return, this game will release "sometime".
@CANOEberry Why would it? It's not like developers are locking content behind a pay wall (well, most of them don't). It's work that they do post launch. Post launch DLC has been a thing for almost two decades. Not sure why you're acting brand new about this. Lol
@stuntz0rZ suckle at the game industry's teat
@Lanmanna My Switch copies of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, Hollow Knight, Disco Elysium and more have the complete game, DLC and updates included.
Limited Run, where each of those stickers will add $49.99 EACH to the price of the game. Then different publishers will release their versions in actual stores while you are left waiting years for LRG to get off their ass and actually send you something. Do not support these pirates.
@ReaperMelia They are still ridiculously overpriced, even at Best Buy. Before you complain “cost of materials,” that is still not a justification of how they regularly charge triple the cost of the game or more.
@Azuris yea it does ... so many of the limited physical releases come from the EU, it is brutal.
YESSS Physical Media 4 Life!!
@CANOEberry
Thank you! Insisting on physical media when available takes its financial if not mental toll, so I appreciate the mature, compassionate reply! Sometimes it is hard to justify spending double the amount on a game that digital shoppers are playing 6 months or more sooner, so we suffer a little for our stubbornness. For me it's worth it, though, since I can share my cartridge with family or trusted friends and save them money perhaps. Plus I don't care as much about dreaded eShop closures...
Looking nice.
@MarioBrickLayer
Yes - still no Casey Jones to be seen (now you've got me humming that Grateful Dead song), though maybe there is still hope he cameos in story mode at some point (he's gotta!) and then becomes an unlockable character.
These devs might be cool enough to let us unlock such extras, but most likely characters like Casey or Usagi Yoshimbo would be paid DLC, like in SOR4.
In SOR4's case, I preordered the game from LRG, then traded that in at Gamestop a few months later to get the Anniversary Edition that had the DLC on the cartridge.
@The_Top_Loader
I'm afraid I don't watch all that much YouTube and haven't come across your videos till now, but obviously you love games and it's that love that compels us to spend excessive money and time on them. I get that. And that's ok!
Hobbies are rarely, if ever, cheap.
If there's another way, 100%.
So, this game is coming to major retailers as well as Limited Run Games. Way to expose yourself after all the controversy going on with LRG.
@CANOEberry well duh how exactly do you expect it too? Do you really expect them to somehow have magical time travel tech to put something yet made or programed or at least finished on a cart? Dlc usually isn’t finished before the game itself comes out ya know.
@spacemoe505 What's to be unsure of, complete content on game card?
@PokemonDMG $150. Yup, exorbitant.
@Teksetter hey thanks mate. That waw such a nice comment. If you have seen my Doom Limiter Run Games video then you will see i share the same sentiments
@SuperToadie Nowadays, unless there are significant physical editions giveaways, I prefer digital purchases. How I see it, the only physical goodies on offer here are stickers...
@Williamfuchs420 Well, duh, I expect companies to sell a complete product before charging a complete price.
@CANOEberry that’s ridiculous dlc is extra has always been extra you don’t deserve it its not owed to you. You bought a complete product if ya don’t want the extra dont buy it this stuff is developed post launch expecting it to exist at launch is ridiculous
Going to wait a little while in case they release the whole game + DLC on a single cart.....which happened with Streets of Rage 4 and Mr. X.. The game itself looks great though - I'm just going to wait this one out.
@Williamfuchs420 I'm going to buy what I want and complain about what I want... and you can't stop me. Ta-ta!
@Williamfuchs420 LMFAO!!! 99% of games AREN'T complete products though. They are chopped and sold piece-meal. So no we aren't getting a complete product.
@RudeAnimat0r agree, but on the plus side LR cartridges usually include a bug free patched version of the game.
@Slain It's the same reason people make chip tunes, or play acoustic guitar, etc. Neither version is inherently better, it's a stylistic choice. I adore SoR4's graphics, but I also adore Hyper Light Drifter's graphics. Developers think they can still wriggle more out of restricting themselves to old school sprite work, and I'm here for it.
I'll concede TMNT doesn't push the sprites too far beyond Turtles in Time, but I think again that's their design choice. They're trying to make a game that looks like it could have been a 90s' arcade game, but looks like how your mind might remember it, not how they actually look.
I'm glad we have both options!
@mrjingles75 I'd rather have a game on release and download patches as they're released. There's no guarantee a game is put to physical media some months out and is bug free either.
I get that the patches might eventually be unavailable but my reality is I'll have them installed and never think about them not being on the cartridge again.
@RudeAnimat0r I'm glad we have both options too and think we always should. But for every SoR4 or Hollow Knight with lovely handrawn graphics, there seems to be dozens of other games with retro pixel art. It seems like the ratio of handrawn to pixel art is very small with most developers opting to go the retro pixel style.
I just don't understand why developers are choosing to go mainly in favour of this style. Retro is cool and all but I think its being overdone at this point.
Still no release date 🙄
You know what? I'm done keeping an eye on the Turtles. It will come when it will come, I'm sick of looking it up and getting nothing except "coming soon" I'm not mad at you Liam btw it's the Publishers.
Well, could be worse, at least it's not Pizza Pizza. Probably the worst pizza chain, yet I keep eating it, out of convenience mostly.
Nice little touch that brings back memories to a simpler time.
Free pizza? I want a release date!
These dudes will do anything but announce a release date. Next article: Free Crystal Pepsi!
It takes LRG so long to ship the game, the free pizza coupon will probably have expired...
That’s all fine and good, but surely the release date will be officially announced soon? I’ve seen it listed as a mid-June release. Why so secret about the release dates?
June 16th can’t come soon enough!
Does anyone over the age of 5 actually use stickers?
While this is a good physical release and you get a free pizza out of it, Pizza Hut themselves aren't actually that good anymore. The two better friendly Pizza Hut locations that were near us are permanently closed forever and the one that is still around is not only farther away and open but is in a bad location, had bad service, and serve bad pizzas as well. Thanks but no thanks I'll just buy it standard instead and go with Domino's or one of the mom and pop pizza parlor instead.
They should do the free pizza for Cowabunga Collection too.
Definitely going to buy it from Amazon or best buy. LRG is having big issues completing orders right now. I have three orders with that have all been placed well over 10 months ago, with the zombies ate my neighbors/ghoul patrol collectors edition closing in on a year this 18th.
@YesHaveSome Is it coming to Amazon and Best Buy?
I remembered the Nes boxes with promotions and pizza vouchers in games like Yo! Noid
How do we STILL not have a release date/window??
@NESlover85 , yes it sounds like it will be LRG... AND other retailers...but I could be wrong..
@Serpenterror Pizza Hut has a pre‐established "history" with the TMNT franchise...my guess is they're just trying to make 💰💰 based off that 😅
@Bizzyb I sure hope it comes to other retailers. I hate buying from LRG, takes too long.
@DeskLaser so you ask us not to mention the actual reason for the higher cost of a physical game, and still magically say it’s overpriced? This is FAR from “ridiculously overpriced”. You’re basing your claim on the comparison to electronic distribution. Is that your reason or are you just looking at a simple price comparison between a Steam cheap $5 digital game versus a physical product?
These sorts of prices have been the standard since the 80’s for physical media…….
@Magrane
Oh no, Limited Run goes FAR beyond the cost of materials. Secondly, yes, when they are selling a $5 game for $70-80+, that is ***** ridiculous.
@RudeAnimat0r “months” can be 1 year plus some
@kerplunk Crystal Pepsi was my *****
@GannonBanned For sure, it can be a long ass time. Not a game, but I've been waiting well over a year for my Scott Pilgrim vinyl from them.
LRG needs a free shipping option. Their shipping charge is bogus
Free pizza? AND ITS PIZZA HUT?!? JUST SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
(Although I mainly eat Costco and little ceasers nowadays.)
I am very excited for this game, it actually was my first reason to get the Switch a week ago
@RudeAnimat0r i’m a week away from a year on Zombies Ate My Neighbors - there was a vinyl shortage last year, but still!
I will be ordering the special physical edition ASAP!!
Ughhhh! More editions announced! Just gimme the dang game already!
@Bizzyb That was once upon a time ago, nowadays Pizza Hut is just a garbage pizza chain. They closed all the good ones and kept the bad ones open. At least the TMNT movie went with Domino's.
I like Pizza Hut. shrug
And still no release date hehe
I don’t need the radical edition, I really don’t, no I don’t, I definitely don’t…
Aaaaaaand once again, the sountrack is locked behind a $200 edition full of fluff...I guess I'll just go with the standard release (or hope for a European release like SOR4).
Honestly, I like the Cowabunga Collection's SE much better than what LR are offering...
@GannonBanned @kerplunk remember the Van Halen music commercial? 🤤
They got the Shedder figure wrong. The original figure was bare chested and only had a cape on.
This is a game I want to play as soon as it’s released, there’s no way I’m waiting an extra year to play it on physical. Bad move from DOTEMU getting these guys to publish it.
@Slain
I think exactly that to lean on the nostalgia, i personally dont mind it, it looks great.
Hoping we get a proper release in EU!
EDIT: Oh, we are, courtesy of Merge Games. Collector's Edition too.
I wonder why NLife are acting like the Limited Run editions are the only ones that exist...?
❗️Release Date or it didn't happen...
Instead of continually announcing toys and plastic rip offs, release the actual game!
$199.99?! That's steep.
Hoping for a release date by the end of July at this point.
@Serpenterror Pizza Hut uses the same ingredients at all the restaurants, so it seems like "they closed the good ones" is irrelevant. Of course, you'll have outliers where the locations suck, but you're using a personal anecdote as a basis for the company as a whole. I usually hear people say the restaurant as a whole has gone downhill, not because a couple of local locations closed down.
@DeskLaser You really think this game should only be $5? The production costs of making the game surely means the game needs to retail for more than 5 bucks. Lol
@link3710 is it I can only see it saying limited run games Is dealing with it?
@Lanmanna I never said there was no production price or cost of materials. But the extreme amount they overcharge is just absurd. If that was truly the case then every physical game printed would have sky rocketed in price by now.
@CANOEberry People really need to get over physical copies. Digital is the future. Take Mario Kart 8 as an example. You want all DLC included with physical release? Well you would then have to wait 6 years for the physical version of Mario Kart 8. Smash Bros. is another example of DLC being released over years. Plus MANY, MANY indie games don't get a physical release at all. Lastly, I want to point out the utter hypocrisy of many physical collectors, especially YouTubers who focus gaming, every single one of them also subscribe to Microsoft Game Pass—a digital only service.
The only good counter argument you could say is that the all digital PlayStation 5 console and Xbox console were rejected on the market. I think that has more to do with a product taking something away without giving you anything else. PS5 games files are HUGE. They should have made the all digital versions the same price BUT included larger hard drives. That would have made the difference. They should never have been marketed as a "budget" option in the first place.
@GravyThief who is releasing shredder's revenge in europe
Ouch. Sucks that the ost is locked behind the most expensive edition.
@DazzaS maybe I’m confusing myself with the Cowabunga Collection. Which I’m genuinely gutted about. I won’t be ordering from LRG.
@thinkhector digital is not the future. It’s here. The simple point about physical copies is once the server is gone wherever you can retrieve your guaranteed digital purchase, the game is gone. A physical copy prevents this.
@Magrane This is what we used to call an XBLA game. It was never going to come to an expensive cart to sell for $30. LRG is basically just created overpriced but fun physical collector editions.
Signature Edition and standard available to pre-order now for Europe. Shows shipping on the 29th July, so not long to wait for the physical!
https://signatureeditiongames.com/collections/coming-soon
@Magrane Yes I agree digital is here. When you look at the number of games available on the eShop versus retail, the vast majority of games are ONLY available digitally. I think this idea that if a game isn't physical it won't be available on the future. The PC side of things definitely disproves this. Games going back decade's are available on PC digitally. This is actually how most emulators work. You don't go out and find the physical copy, you actually want the digital copy. Look at M.A.M.E, it wouldn't even been physically possible to store every arcade game in your house. I think the fallacy is that physical is the best media for game preservation when in fact digital is actually the best means of game preservation. Flobby discs, CD-ROMS, Gameboy Cartridges...modern PC and mobile hardware doesn't even come with these physical drives. Physical media actually becomes obsolete quicker and harder to access over long period of time as opposed to digital, which doesn't care about the storage medium being used.
Way way too much money. I'll buy cheepo physical version
@DazzaS I don’t know if you’ve seen but you can preorder physical copies of Shredder’s Revenge in the UK from sites like the Game Collection, ShopTo, base.com etc. I’ve just got my order in. Glad we don’t have to order from Limited Run Games.
@GravyThief thanks for the heads up. I pre ordered from shopto
