The Switch has a few quirky Indie wrestling games with retro vibes, which is nice, and the questionable WWE 2K18; the latter was not a high point for the genre, to put it mildly. Those hoping for wrestling action a bit more grounded in the current scene may be keeping an eye on All Elite Wrestling's first game, which now has a confirmed name - AEW Fight Forever.
Originally announced in late 2020, there haven't been many updates during the development to date; we do know that Japanese studio Yuke's is behind the project, a team with pedigree on older titles like WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw. Along with confirmation of the name, AEW Games only stated that it's coming to 'consoles and PC', while releasing two videos. At the top is a reveal of Nyla Rose, and below is a look at Kris Statlander.
It'll be interesting to see how this game does when it eventually ships, as All Elite Wrestling continues to grow its audience. Then there's the question of whether it'll come to Switch; if this title also comes to PS4 and Xbox One, for example, there may be a decent chance.
Let us know what you think of these development clips - are you optimistic about AEW Fight Forever?

I just don’t think the Switch is graphically capable to handle whatever new concepts they’re going to throw here. If it sells well I could definitely see a refined/stripped version releasing on Switch.
Hmmmm. Looks like all the worst parts of the WWE 2K games. I thought Kenny Omega hinted they were going to mimic the Aki games?
Graphically it doesn't look that good but what gameplay they have shown looks solid I will play as both Darby Allin and MJF
They said from the very beginning thatpeople should have the expectations in the right place. It has a lower budget than the wwe games, and they are focusing on the gameplay style that hopefully, will be more akin to old wrestling games.
Gameplay is looking really good. I haven't played an AKI Corp-style of wrastlin' game since Def Jam Fight for New York. Even though I can't stand today's product from either AEW or WWE, I'm really hyped for this.
I can't wait for this game. About time we get a good wrestling game again.
The fact that it looks better than WWE 2K22 is a big step up. Here's hoping Yuke's got the gameplay all polish up cause that's the most important aspect. The N64 WWF/WCW THQ/Yuke's games didn't need better graphics to be better wrestling games, they just need to be fun and enjoyable.
I never understood why we never had a Street Fighter 2 style WWF game as a kid. Seemed like it would show off the characters more than the games where all the characters had similar moves in. Plus fighting games are tough in 3D without targeting.
"Hoping they'll pin down a Switch version too"
Yeah I'm not considering how garbage ports for wrestling games on the switch turned out to be.
@MrGawain there is one called Wrestlemania the arcade game. I have it on Sega Saturn. It’s pretty good. I’ve lost the reflexes to be any good at it mind. Give it a go.
@MrGawain No love for WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game? That played more like a 2D fighter than a wrestling game. Special moves and everything. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1URH9xLevI
🎵"Wednesday nights I get to stay up late..."🎵
@MrGawain saturday night slam masters, waaaaay back when, played like a fighter.
Is no mercy on nso-xpac?
Man I was absolutely disappointed yesterday. I was waiting for so long to see more footage of the game! And what did they show? 50 seconds? And it only looks okay to be honest. Not bad but not that impressive either.
I hope they show complete matches and give us more information very soon. And hopefully the game will be fun to play in the end. I expect nothing less considering the wrestlers themselves know what makes a great wrestling game.
@MrGawain Wrestlemania the Arcade game was basically that. You also had Saturday Night Slammasters which was made by Capcom as well and even has a relative of Guile in the game. It doesn't have the WWF licensing but it's pretty much Street Fighter in a wrestling ring.
@PhhhCough No due to licensing issues it probably will never be available again. Keep in mind that almost the entire roster doesn't work for WWE anymore and a good number of them, Matt Hardy, Mark Henry, Chris Jericho, Christian etc. work for AEW now.
I hope we get it. Still waiting for the perfect wrestling game on the switch. Even fire pro on the GBA would be worth having at this point (one of my favs anyway).
I'm just here to say play Wrestling Empire.
@MrGawain WWF Wrestlefest, this is the one you want. It plays similar to Saturday Night Slam Masters which is Street Fighter style based with large sprites and 4-player simultaneous mayhem. WWF WrestleMania Arcade plays more like Mortal Kombat style based and use live action digitalize wrestlers, four wrestlers could enter the ring but the game is only 2-player even at the arcade (though nowadays there are hacks which could enable four players simultaneous play for PC emulators only). Wrestlefest was never ported to any consoles while WrestleMania Arcade got ported to a lot of consoles. Wrestlefest had 1990 roster with 10 wrestlers whereas WrestleMania Arcade got 1995 roster with 8 wrestlers.
@VoodooTrumpet
This one gets it!
Big AEW fan right here, very excited for this game
@ThomasBW84 Looks like this might be a one time thing.
There are reports around the web that AEW and Yukes aren't getting along.
@MrGawain Saturday Slam Masters 2 by Capcom is your closest bet.
@KBuckley27 what gameplay have they shown? literally just moves which are animations. i could point about at least a dozen issues... ref rotates toward the target while standing idle, her hands are quite large, ref idle popped as it mirrored incorrectly, characters weren't synchronized properly during one of the moves and i could go on and on.
@Matty1988
They probably meant gameplay control wise.
@timschel
In all fairness, this game is still in development so there is still time to fix noticeable issues before release. I'm waiting for final gameplay trailers and hopefully eventually they show a couple matches using final gameplay etc.
this looks fantastic, game play looks kinda arcadey and reminiscent of the 64's best. Lighting and switching camera views are also really good. I don't see this ever running on the Switch however, or if it did, not well. The switch is fantastic, but ultimately old and weak and we all know it.
@Serpenterror Nahhhhhhhh SUPERSTARS is what you want.
@Pete41608 THQ is the publisher and announced that show for August. It's either a blowout reveal OR the game is getting delayed to next year. I'm pretty certain it's going to be delayed as there have been a number of behind the scenes developments that will uhh, hurt their ability to finish. But also, it's not coming for Switch...
@timschel
I'm fully expecting a delay to 2023, but I do hope it comes this year. I can deal with some animations being off as long as they plan to fix them in due time. I'm enjoying WWE 2K22 but their was bad decisions made regarding the game and DLC packs.
I seriously doubt this will make its way to Switch. It would be smart if it did, though. Considering the only wwe games on Switch are 2k18 and Battlegrounds, this game would be pretty uncontested for any Switch owners wanting a wrestling game.
@Waluigi451 Kinda lazy how they never fix 2K18, just give the game to Saber Interactive and had them polish it. The game was trash the moment they reveal that Blind Squirrels were behind the Switch port, the same people that port Sonic Colors Ultimate.
@Serpenterror saber was support but blind squirrel was the primary.
