With 100 returning minigames from the entire franchise and five classic boards to play on, Mario Party Superstars is a nostalgia feast bigger than Peach's Birthday Cake. It's the sort of game that's ripe for DLC, and if YouTube ads are anything to go by, there might be some on the way.
A Reddit user has spotted an advert on the YouTube app (thanks, Nintendo Everything) that asks what DLC pack you'd most likely pick up next. The four options are Hot Wheels Unleashed, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC, Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Happy Home Paradise DLC, and Mario Party Superstars.
Eagle-eyed readers will notice that two of these are already DLC packs, while Hot Wheels Unleashed also has a season pass. That then leaves the plumber's party, which has no official DLC yet announced.
If there's any substance to this, it's certainly an odd way for information like this to leak. Until Nintendo announces anything, we're in the dark. But hey, it did release a free update for Super Mario Party in 2021 that belatedly added online play, so who knows?
What would you like to see from any potential Mario Party Superstars DLC? Some more returning boards? Extra characters? Even more minigames? Let us know down below!

I would LOVE to see more boards especially! This game was already a lot of fun, but I did get tired fo some of the boards after awhile. More minigames would be awesome too.
If this is actually happening, it has got to be the funniest way something like this has ever leaked.
I'm considering picking up Superstars anyway so this would the cherry on top of Peach's Birthday Cake.
I really hope so. I'm getting tired of the boards we already have.
I want a windmill/hotel type of board, where you put money into something to get stars. Those are the most fun boards.
Mario day is coming up
But it doesn't say the word "DLC" like it does with mario kart and animal crossings DLC is named. Maybe they just meant the main game
Sound like a good candidate for DLC that will be made part of NSO + Expansion Pack.
Well that's... interesting.
For the Mario Kart DLC, they basically doubled the number of tracks, that's it. I'm thinking they might do the same with Mario Party, add 5, maybe 6, more boards, that's it.
Nah, it'll be Super Mario Party DLC instead
That would be brilliant. Add some boards from 4 and 5 too!
@Lagster_YT Speaking of which, it's weird that nobody has talked about the ongoing deals on the eshop related to the celebration (Luigi's Mansion 3 finally got a discount after too long since the last time).
Survey questions and answers are designed to not necessarily impart information, but to discern consumer awareness or gauge interest.
What I'm saying is, some answers provided might simply be there to check if a user is informed or knowledgeable about what's on the market, or answering truthfully. It doesn't necessarily mean they're going to do something.
@Lagster_YT Oooh that's true!
This is a bit of a pipe dream, but I’d love to see the return of MP9’s Magma Mine, and the boss mini games.
Whatever we get will be great regardless
GameCube boards would be great, and make this game probably the best Mario Party.
This reminds me of how around a week and a half before E3 last year, Nintendo sent out a survey which included a question about the price point at which people would buy a WarioWare game, and lo and behold, one was announced during the E3 Direct. This isn't a survey directly coming from Nintendo, but there's still already substantial evidence for the game receiving DLC (in-game purchases listed on the eShop, unused board files datamined, a gap in the numbering of playable character badges in the files), so I'm thinking this could pan out similarly. Probably at E3, but maybe there's a slim chance of getting news on MAR10 Day?
I fully expect some DLC for Superstars (no brainer)... I can't believe we haven't had it yet. I hope it is extensive, which would then fully make up for the terrible Super Mario Party (which I traded in for Superstars).
Ultimately, I just want to see Windmillville.
More boards is pretty much the main thing I’d like to see. Extra characters and mini games would just be a bonus for me.
I'd be shocked if this game didn't have DLC
Not interested I feel the game has enough as it is. Remember the days Nintendo said they had no plans to take the DLC route? remember the days you went into a shop and bought a game and that was it? I remember.
People here likely complain when everybody else does it but when Nintendo does it everything's A ok.
I would love some new maps. Superstars is some of the best multiplayer fun I've had in a long time, but I haven't been playing it with my friends lately since we've played through all of the maps so many times. I'm absolutely fine with paid DLC as well, but free updates would be really cool.
There is a Mario day this week called MAR10. March 10th is Mario day.
Maybe it will be announced there???
@TommyTendo Well, do I have a Mario Party 8 for you!
I hope WarioWare gets some too
@Z-Core Yeah but that's all I want. More boards and more characters. Mario Kart 8 did add new characters to the game back on Wii U when it originally came out. I think that's a possibility here too.
I'd love new mini-games but I won't hold my breath on that one.
A way for you to play local multiplayer online with others would be great.
I hope this is true
If they're adding more boards, then that's awesome! Even though I still think Superstars is worse than Mario Party 1-7, it's still a pretty decent step in the right direction and is be happy to support it
I would love for this game to get some DLC. It's a great game and I'm honestly a bit disappointed there were only 5 boards when all the N64 titles, which this game was of course heavily based on, had at least least 6. And since Mario Party 1 and 2 each got 2 boards represented in Superstars, making 3 have only a single board for itself always seemed weird, so giving 3 one more board would have been perfect.
Well, either way, as said, I do hope the game comes with DLC, paid or not.
@KayFiOS That's what I was refering to (plus MP7 and its windmills)
This is so easy to fake a screenshot or an unknown advertiser survey, I can't believe a grain of salt was not mentioned
Please add more content from Mario party 7 please...
There's pretty strong evidence in the data for DLC being planned anyway so wouldn't be a shock. Really hope so, love the game and played it a lot when it first came out but it is a bit thin on content. I'd probably still be returning to it a lot more if there were around eight boards though even just one would help tremendously with variety.
Give me Mario Rainbow Castle (MP1), Western Land (MP2), and Creepy Caverns (MP3).
I guess we can squeeze in Waluigi Island for one more.
More boards, mini games, and characters. Mostly boards though. I feel as though my spouse and I have played the game to death already.
Not getting my hopes up, but it would be AMAZING if this were true! This game NEEDS boards from the GameCube entries! Also, I wanna play as Pauline.
These options really raise red flags for me. Nintendo are VERY picky about brand guidelines, so calling the ‘Booster Course Pack’ just ‘DLC’ and abbreviating ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ as ‘ACNH’ just screams ‘This isn’t Nintendo’s doing’ to me.
Oh, I also just spotted that they didn’t say ‘Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’, just ‘Mario Kart 8’. So they either mean the MK8 DLC on Wii U (incredibly left-field choice for a survey), or the BCP on Switch, in which case there are TWO red flags in just that one option for me.
Maybe there is MPSS DLC on the horizon… but this survey looks extremely unofficial, and like the options weren’t even run by Nintendo’s brand teams at all.
Please be more characters, I mean yeah we all want more boards...but the characters are also....lacking. Would also be interesting if they brought back some of the extra modes from past games.
Mario Party 3 and 5 were some of my favorites just because of those modes.
@RubyCarbuncle in this case I disagree. I much rather have more of the mini games on one game then having to jump between a few. Same goes with Mario kart courses. And the same should have gone with splatoon.
That would be great to have DLC for Mario Party. I’m up for more boards.
Would be hilarious if this game pulls a MK8D and adds a crap load of past series boards and you get for free if you have premium membership
I hope this is true. The character selection seems too basic compared to previous entries. And although there is an extra board compared to Super Mario Party, I'm finding it a little frustrating; maybe because at least SMP had 2 variations of each board and a solo play.
I'd like to see new characters, but new boards are a must. Then again, who doesn't want more minigames?
@RubyCarbuncle id prefer the dlc route cause it means nintendo won't resell a MPS sequel for $60. It's less about dlc itself being bad and the approach they take with it sometimes
Most online focused nintendo games constantly release unfinished with "free updates" which is easy to criticize. I'd argue nearly every MP released as a complete game on launch (with varying degrees of quality). So dlc for MP would feel less like them finishing the game, and more like an actual bonus on top of a full game
@UltimateOtaku91 It says "downloadable content" though
@RubyCarbuncle People complaining when other companies do something but when Nintendo does it it's okay is a super hot take.
If anything, it's the other way around. I don't see Nintendo do anything nowadays without receiving major backlash.
If what you told me is true, you will have gained my trust.
@boxyguy I guess when you put it like that you do make a valid point. Also nothing to do with the Article but the character in your Avatar is very cute.
@Varkster I don't know but based on my observations I always see people trying to justify it. Perhaps you're right? it's just I tend to see people getting excited or trying to justify it as already stated.
@sixrings Fair enough man shrugs
Que sera, sera. While I would love to see more boards and minigames in particular, I'm not holding my breath.
@Clyde_Radcliffe : Nnnnnnnnnnooooooo!
WarioWare: Get It Together is one of very few games that have been Version 1.0 since launch.
I don't want that jeopardised. And I'd much rather have a new game, ideally a successor to Smooth Moves.
I got the same ad a few days ago, but I don't think youtube advertising will know about Mario Party DLC and no one else
More mini games, more characters. Other then that game is great.
Bought this game at launch and still have not played it yet! If more content is coming for the game, then lets go! Hopefully, that Basketball mini game from Mario Party 6 gets added. It was SO GOOD!!!! ^__^
It'd certainly be nice to have, but not required for me right now. (Love what's currently on offer)
@HolyGeez03
"I can't believe we haven't had it yet"
Bro your expectations are a bit too high? Game hasn't been out for 6 months
@epestus
Bro, we're talking about some new boards, that are remakes from old games, not an additional campaign. And as an example, Mario Golf got DLC within two months of its release... so your arbitrary 6 month time limit means nothing.
@HolyGeez03
Rofl. Two months is not a standard by any means. Positive expection, sure. I can throw a million examples of nintendo games that got first dlc's after more than a year. "so your arbitrary 2 month time limit means nothing."
I would love to see e Gadds garage from Mario party 6 shy guys perplex express from Mario party 8 and the pirate world from Mario party 5 plus a whole bunch of minigames and finally I’d like to see blooper hammer bro dry bones and boo come back😊
I’ve played Most of the Mario Party games my entire life and I’m still waiting for more boards and new characters, come on Nintendo what are you waiting for please give us some dlc for Mario Party Superstars 😁😁😁😊😊😊
