Budding hunters can rise up to the challenge this week — if you have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, that is. Nintendo has announced that those using this service can try out Monster Hunter Rise for free! That surely means more than just a demo, with players able to access the full game for a limited time.
So, from 10 AM PST on 11th March to 11:59 PM PST on 17th March players can brandish their weapons to take down massive foes with friends. And even if a week doesn't sound that long, you can certainly squeeze in a lot of hunting during that time.
In our review of Monster Hunter Rise, we praised the quality of life updates to the franchise and the excellent multiplayer. So if our thoughts weren't enough nearly a year ago, maybe a jaunt against the giants will convince you.
Next week, we'll also be finding out more about the upcoming expansion, Sunbreak, so Capcom and Nintendo are likely eager to drum up as much interest as possible for the base game.
Will you attempt to take on the Rampage? And would you like to see more limited-time game trials through Nintendo Switch Online? Let us know in the comments!

That's strange. It's not letting me download it. I can't be the only me, right?
Oh that’s not bad tbh I think
That's pretty cool. I might try it out. I played the demo on Steam and it wasn't great, but maybe being able to try out the whole game would be better.
I never got into the MH series but this seems like a good opportunity to try again
Hey thats really cool maybe that'll convince some of my friends to get this game.
MHR has to be closing in on 9m copies sold, right?
Is this just for america?
@Magician Yeah it's at 8 million units sold right now counting both platforms
Try it ppl! It’s great
thats fantastic
@iLikeUrAttitude
It was near 8m on Switch when the Steam version released.
I'd like to believe it's almost reached a million on Steam by now so it should be near 9m.
The expansion will be huge though. Tons of ppl will be getting back into the game, and Rise base game will easily clear 10m overall, which isn't bad for a smaller budget MH released on 1/3 fewer platforms without the massive Witcher/Assassin's Creed/Final Fantasy crossover marketing.
@martynstuff You'll be able to download it from the eshop 10 AM PST on 11th March
Oh i forgot this one!
Nice to try, will download it later
*Oh wait the article said from the 11th 😂
Just haven't found Rise as appealing as World was. I think I'm just burnt out. I poured the most number of hours into World than I did with 3U or 4U. Skipped generations. Maybe sunbreak will make it worthwhile for me. Kudos to those who currently enjoy Rise.
@JaxonH Oh definitely it probably at those numbers as we speak, and you can bet I'll pouring a bunch more hours into Rise once Sunbreak releases.
I picked up the full game a couple of weeks ago and I already have 20 hours. I highly recommend everybody try it even if the demo didn’t click for you
Kinda surprised, since there is already a pretty big demo for the game.
allright... did not see that coming
They really need to change it to one month, how is any one going to be able to beat the full game for free in one week?
Darn, and I just got the game last week, either way I'm liking it so far
Not a big MH gamer, played a few hours of Tri on Wii, but I did have a fun week w/ MHR, much better than I thought I would. Took me about 30 hours to see the ending credits, which for this game is really just the beginning, but it felt like a complete game just the same. Worth a play if you like fighting monsters.
I did skip all of the strategy levels except the 1 mandatory 1, wasn't a fan. What made the game special for me was the monster riding battles. W/o forcing them too much the game let's some of the big monsters fight, then you get to ride 1, sometimes even a third, and just go at it like kaiju. Never really done that in any game before, closest was Dante's Inferno on PS2(3?) but mostly just took out smaller guys, not fighting equals like this game. Does take some getting used to though.
Strange. Nintendo UK and Nintendo Europe both tweeted the trial but have deleted the tweets and the trial is no longer visible on the UK eShop page
There's already a demo
The way some people play (key quest hunters) you could finish rise in a week!
Pretty good indeed. A pity I don't plan to pay for that service XD
I would, but my switch is going to be busy with my SO playing Triangle Strategy. Oh well.
@Would_you_kindly
"That surely means more than just a demo, with players able to access the full game for a limited time."
You know, it's a really short article. It's better to read it before commenting.
these game trials will probably happen even more often because some of the new missions for platinum points will involve playing game trials
No trial in EU? This only for US?
@roy130390 doesn't change the fact that it's a trial & it lasts a week
@Would_you_kindly ... Yes, that's what it says in the article, not in your comment. What I'm saying is that having access for the whole game for a week isn't the same as the demo. Nobody debated that it's a trial or it's length.
@roy130390 this is supposed to be try before you buy which is exactly what the demo is for & you don't need a subscription for that
@Would_you_kindly with the trial you can beat the whole game without buying can't do that with the demo
@CodyMKW could be limited to a certain amount of time or progress it doesn't say
@Would_you_kindly Splatoon 2 had a trial version that was the full game players could access the whole story mode and all online modes
@Would_you_kindly You are arguing for the sake of it. Just recognize that you didn't read properly and move on with your life. Hell, you don't even need to recognize it to others, just stop trying to be right when it's clear that you don't. It's not the same as the current demo, it's obvious.
Ok, gonna give this a try even if I didn't like the demo.
My online subscription runs out the 21st and I haven't really gotten any value out of it (I don't play online, don't like the NES or SNES games and frankly only bought to have cloud saves, but I've found out I can manage without them).
I'm gonna play a lot of MH rise until the 21st (I presume)
@roy130390 I wasn't arguing I was just saying there's already a demo for the game & unless you plan to rush through this & put alot of time into it for the week that it's available it's just a longer demo
Already have it downloaded. I loved the demo, let's see how I handle the whole game in a week!
@Would_you_kindly this is the full game.
I don´t like Monster Hunter....not my kind of game.
@Would_you_kindly A week it's a long enough period, you don't need to rush to make a considerable progress. Unlike with the demo, many people will be able to experience monsters, the story, armors, weapons and gaming features that you couldn't with it. There's really a big difference between them since for those that will have the chance to invest hours on it should be clear if they like the game or not. It's up to the person how much they are able to play it, but that doesn't change the difference between having access to a full game and a demo.
Time to be a show off to the limited time players and run around naked.
Cool one last game trial (and one that doesn't suck for a change!) before my NSO subscription expires into oblivion forever.. definitely not worth renewing for games I can emulate easier with more bells and whistles on my phone.
@shgamer Sounds like we're in the same exact boat, except mine expires the 22nd I believe.
Seems pretty cool, and I've been interested in it, but that is a hugeee game to download for just a week
I won't be trying it. I played a demo on the 3DS and there was zero appeal in torturing a harmless monster to death, even if there's so-called "quality of life" updates in this version. They won't improve my life, and certainly not the monsters' lives.
@Marianne I'm glad you're enjoying it! What's been your favourite weapon to use to far? 😊
@Edu23XWiiU Enjoy! 😍
@rjejr Agree, I really love the addition of Wyvern Riding! So much fun 😍
@DreamlandGem Sounds much better when you call it wyvern riding. 👍
@DreamlandGem so far I really like using the lance!
