At the end of last month, it was officially confirmed Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. series would not be featured at EVO 2022. It's appeared at the world's biggest fighting game tournament since 2007, and at the time was received as a massive blow to the event.
Fast forward to today's line-up reveal on Twitch - so what fighting games made the cut? Here's the full roster. Four of the nine titles featured are available on Nintendo Switch, and five of these games are appearing at the tournament for the first time ever.
Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, Guilty Gear Strive, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, Tekken 7, The King of Fighters XV, Melty Blood: Type Lumina, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Granblue Fantasy: Versus and Skullgirls: 2nd Encore.
As noted, registration for the event is now open - and will take place in person between August 5-7 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. And if you missed the news about Super Smash Bros. being pulled from the tournament, here's EVO's official statement from the other week:
"Since 2007, we've seen historic Super Smash Bros. moments created at Evo's events. We are saddened that Nintendo has chosen not to continue that legacy with us this year. In the future, we hope to once again celebrate the Super Smash Bros. community alongside them."
Nintendo is now focused on hosting its own Super Smash Bros. tournament events in partnership with Panda Global. What do you think of this year's line-up for EVO? Leave a comment down below.

honestly its kinda what I expected. Also waiting for MightyKeef to make a video about EVO 2022
I’m watching for skull girls, don’t remember seeing them here.
, but I never looked at the line up lol.

that's a damn good lineup of games.
I get why Nintendo is no longer involved with EVO and I don't fault them for it, but wow Smash Bros absence is definitely noticed.
Exciting to see King of Fighters XV and Guilty Gear Strive offline and Skull Girls fanbase has always been cool to me but I feel like we’ve seen the enough of MK11, SFV, and T7 which are the premier fighting game franchises.
Edit: by this I mean each of those games in their franchises (MK, SF, and T) are not considered the best from a technical community perspective and we’re expecting new releases from them this new gen in the next 1-2 years potentially.
I love seeing kof back at Evo. This game has a huge fanbase in latinamerica. I dont understand why its not more popular in other territories
Great list of games!! KOF, tekken, SF, Gulty Gear?? I wish I was better at fighting games.
We did it, my Mexico bros. KOF is back. This EVO is going to be hype and will smell very nice.
The absence of Smash was inevitable after Sony buying em out. A full slate of fighting games on PlayStation/being played on PS and I'm sure Sony would want it that way.
Great to see smaller fighting games here though, such as Kof and Skull girls.
@blindsquarel four of the games at EVO are on the Switch so I still see the article as relevant to a Nintendo website.
Glad to see KoF and Skullgirls make it to main events but am pretty bummed by the lack of Killer Instinct; which, come to think of it, might be related to Sony now owning EVO as much as why Smash is a no-show.
Very expected lineup this year. I like DBZ enough to watch that and maybe MK11 and KoF. EVO doesn't feel organic anymore. A few years of online didn't help.
Terrible lineup, odd that they rather host no name fighting games like Melty Blood: Type Lumina, Skullgirls: 2nd Encore, and Granblue Fantasy: Versus but the more well known fighting games like Persona 4: Arena Ultimax, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, and Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown all got the boot. Seems like everyone just doesn't like Sega which is a shame cause Sega bought Persona 4 Arena, remake Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, and team-up with BlazBlue with them eSports in mind.
@blindsquarel Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Melty Blood: Type Lumina, and Skullgirls: 2nd Encore were also on Nintendo Switch and there are Nintendo gamers at the event so they count to be part of Nintendo news here.
@anoyonmus yessssssssss

@Specter_of-the_OLED While I don't agree with your assessment of Melty Blood I do wonder how Gran Blue beat out VF5.
@blindsquarel three of the games in the lineup are on Switch, what are you talking about?
@Specter_of-the_OLED Those are by no means "no name fighting games".
Hopefully they can still have some Smash Mouth.
Evo gets lower viewing figures than things like 'Naked Attraction' and now it's lost smash, ouch!!!
Sony is trying to get a monopoly over an entire videogame genre. Boycott Sony if you want to save fighting games.
@glaemay Please stop...
No love for any of the Soul Calibar games? Like the only fighter I am sort of good at. 😆
Also, where is Sonic Battle? Guess Evo is too scared I would crush all my opponents?
The real reason Smash isn't at EVO this year is because Nintendo are doing their own Smash tournament, with blackjack and hookers.
Missing SoulCalibur VI...last year Voldo won. This was historic!
Let’s face it, Nintendo knew evo viewers were there for smash it will still have an audience but not like before. Dedicated smash tournaments more often than evo is a better move
@DiggleDog
They got removed, but in my second comment I admitted it was my mistake. The only part I stand by is the misleading title of the article. Don’t know if I can say the click word.
oh yeah time for lab coat 21 dittos
Not surprised Nintendo removed Smash but at least we got KOF, Melty Blood, and Skullgirls so I ain't upset.
@link12684 I can't wait for the video to happen
When is The Eye of Typhoon?
Fantastic. Love a risk reward system. I just hope EVO actually goes well this year.
Good luck to everyone involved.
I'd like to see another platform fighter in future EVO events. We are getting more of them and while I doubt any of them will ever rival Smash Bros in sales numbers, it would be interesting to see others get that honor.
