One of the most anticipated releases in 2022 is Sonic Frontiers, and to celebrate the New Year, Sega and Sonic Team have shared some special (and stunning) artwork on Twitter, which appears to be inspired by the new game.
According to a rough translation, Sonic Team will continue on with more momentum than last year and take on "many challenges" so it can bring the blue blur to even more people in the New Year. It signs off by thanking fans for their ongoing support of Sonic.
"Happy New Year - This year, with more momentum than last year, we would like to take on many challenges as a team so that we can bring the charm of Sonic to even more people. Thank you for your continued support of Sonic this year. [All Sonic Team]"
Here's a similar shot of Sonic and a distant tower from Sonic Frontiers announcement trailer:
Sonic Frontiers is currently scheduled to arrive this year on the Nintendo Switch and multiple other platforms. Are you excited for Sonic's next adventure? Tell us down below.

I am excited for this game but...that excitement is also tempered with uneasiness and caution. Remember: Sonic Team has always been excellent at 2D Sonic but has made some really, really lousy 3D Sonic over the years. Now, we're expecting that Sonic Frontiers which is a 3D Open World Sonic game by what we know so far to be critically AND fan acclaimed? I just don't think it has a grand chance of meeting the standard I set with my question. For now though, I'll await to know more about the game. Let's see where this game is at when E3 2022 comes around. Out!
If Sonic doesnโt copulate with a human female in Frontiers then Iโm going to smear my eyes in Tabasco sauce and spray burning hot tears onto my Switch.
@RareAir23 I agree. I want this to be a good game. Sonic Team's reputation has gone down the toilet. Sonic has become something of a punching bag for the video game industry.
Ok this is awesome! But i just want to say why with everything good we get do people have To be such downers?. I know sonic has had his up's and downs but like for instance this art looks amazing and all you guys have to say is negative/skepticism. It's a new year let's be positive and optimistic
I honestly don't know how this is going to work for a sonic game being open world etc honestly I think they want to ride the success of BoTW and just like pokemon is trying to do and now Kirby as well.
If they get it right then I'm sure it's going to be a hit and I for one can't wait to try it. But hopefully the world is populated and has lots to do and collect and not be dull like halo infinite
THIS is how you start off a New Year, Square Enix!
Sonic Team has zero momentum, Generations was over a decade ago.
Still hoping the game will be good but expectation is still low.
@UltimateOtaku91 With Open World I think they are trying to bring back the momentum gameplay. I am excited for what they want accomplish.
Jokes on them, I've never been a fan of sonic.
What do the ink brushed characters say?
I can't believe people are actually excited for this when we know literally nothing about it. They never showed the game at all, they showed a dumb CG trailer with no details at all. I want a good Sonic game, but we literally know nothing about this game but people are pretending like we know a ton.
3D Open World sounds like a disaster. Maybe they should stick to what they're good on. Japanese flag artwork looks cool though
Keep your expectations in check peopleโฆ.all weโve seen is some pre-rendered footage, no actual gameplay.
2022, Still no proper hd remakes of the Sonic Adventure games & Cho Garden(s).
Meaning : Open world = empty environments barron of any interaction, population, and tasks.
I just hope it will have an interesting world, and not be empty with little to do in it.
I'm rather looking forward this, if only to go fast in a lush open world. However, I'm not going to get my hopes up for it being anything more than that, because I don't see how you'd get the tight, clever design of a linear platformer into this.
When I first played The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, I once believed that there'd be no more linear games because open world was better in every way. But we've had a long time to see the faults of that thinking, design, and become fatigued with it. I reckon after this title, there's going to be a whole lot more 2D Sonic or another attempt at roleplaying games.
On the plus side, having such low expectations means that whatever comes of it will probably make for a decent game.
