It's been a month since Animal Crossing: New Horizons got that stonking big update, plus the double stonking Happy Home Paradise DLC that none of us could have predicted. When the game first came out, albeit in much weirder pandemic-beginning-times than the update, most of us were guzzling it up for at least the first month or two — so what happened this time?
We smushed together Zion from the video team and Kate from the writing team to discuss their thoughts, feelings, and discoveries made while playing the update and the DLC. Also, because both of them are very chatty and easily distracted, they also discuss hats, chocolate, and secret toilets.
Give the video a watch if you want to know our general verdict on the update and DLC, or just to listen to us chat for an hour, or to witness the premiere of Kate's face on the Nintendo Life YouTube channel. Who knew Kate even had a face? Certainly not us, the mysterious (and weirdly plural) writer of this article.
What's been your thoughts on the Animal Crossing update? Let us know in the comments!

@KateGray shoutout to your Hori Pad, the only real way to play portable
I'll be honest, after about two or three weeks after the HHP update came out, I already felt done with it and I haven't touched the game at all anymore now for a few days, and don't really feel compelled to go back in.
It's been fun though but I still can't say it was worth the DLC price they gave it. But I gotta give credit where it's due, they did put a lot of charm into it.
It is a TREAT to see Kate Gray in a NintendoLife video! More, please! ❤
Well there goes my theory Kate was just a really sophisticated AI.
What a lovely conversation about Animal Crossing! We totally need Kate in more videos!
@Astral-Grain I don't think anything I've seen disproves that theory.
@tseliot my god, I'm still thinking like it's 2010, of course she can render a convincing human form in post editing.
How can we ever know for sure?
We Fed Kate Gray Articles To A Bot, And It Gave Its Own Interview
I am personally still playing it since the update was released, it has reinvigorated the game for me, it actually feels like a proper AC game now that most of the classic characters are back.
@Astral-Grain
Phew. Glad I wasn’t the only one who thought that
id say its finally on par on what we expect of a $60 game. didnt bring back everything it couldve from acnl, but its enough to stand on its own now. but my god this game had the worst case of "free content" drought yet. they didnt even slowly sprinkle it out anything noteworthy, just have 2 big updates REALLY spaced apart the 18 months
@NEStalgia
Well played!
@KateGray Yeah, yeah, everyone loves Marshal but can you please give a shout-out to my favorite, Tabby, who is objectively terrifying but living her best life
I don't even play Animal Crossing, but Kate's fun. So I watched
I got bored again after a week
