Nintendo Japan has released a new commercial for Metroid Dread and the song in it seems to be getting a lot of attention on social media. Don't be fooled, this isn't some fan-made clip with popular music over the top of it, it's actually an official advertisement for the upcoming Switch release.
Twitter user @ScrewyClassic noted how the Japanese commercial for the game had a song in it "that goes way too hard" - otherwise known as a "certified banger" in the music industry. It's the kind of track we imagine would fit right in at the start of anime. Have a listen yourself:
Unfortunately, the same user has had no luck tracking the song down. While there was also some speculation it might be in the game, the recent Nintendo Direct appears to have confirmed this music will not be featured:
It seems the song has been commissioned as promotional material. Although there's no other way to listen to it, it's still pretty cool and great to see Nintendo going all out with the marketing of this game in the lead-up to its release.
Can you imagine playing a Metroid game with a song like this in it? Are you hyped for this upcoming Switch release now that you've heard this song? Leave a comment down below.

Not my style at all, but if it helps with the sales in Japan, sure!
I want this game to be a 10 million seller please.
…it’s alright.
…is all I wanted to submit, but the site’s pop-up asks me if I can think of ‘someting’ more to say. So I guess me pointing out that spelling error makes this long enough.
This level of advertising is awesome. Love the song, it captures Samus's power, and energy perfectly. Dread will definitely deliver an awesome, and badass experience.
Wooooooooo. Awesome. Thanks for sharing.
I can’t accept dubstep being crossed over with metal. Surely this can’t be what Ministry and Trent Reznor had in mind 😂
Played 2 seconds, got hyped, then closed out the video to continue my Dread blackout. Trying not to watch videos as I know I’m going to eat this up come October 8.
Special edition preordered and I’m waiting patiently now. Just have to wait now. .. just… wait….
Too much rap/hip hop influence there; it feels out of place on several levels, at least to me. With a name like Metroid Dread, and given the theme of being alone on a hostile alien planet where any number of things are stalking you, the music should evoke feelings of tension, claustrophobia, and terror. That's what I felt while playing through Super Metroid; it's still one of the most atmospheric 2D games I've ever played.
Maybe what's there will help sell copies, I dunno; as a previous poster said, they're a different market. But IMHO the music in this ad feels like it should be associated with an entirely different game.
Don't like it. Doesn't feel like Metroid in the slightest. But as said above if it helps sales in Japan then so be it.
Why do so many game trailers these days use rap and hip-hop? I know it was really big in the 90's/00's but isn't it a bit overused these days? Frankly that song sucked and doesn't fit Metroid at all.
Song was digestible, but there's much better things out there. I guess that's what NL means by calling it a certified sausage.
Doesn't fit the tone of Metroid Dread though.
I love how he says "Metroid Dread" in "Japanese" at the end 😆
Met-uh-roid-O Dread-O
I am totally calling the game that from now on!
So many whiny comments. The song is designed to get people hyped and will do that. Shame it can’t be tracked down- Shazaming it did not work.
@Zeldafan79
Not every song with spoken lyrics is Rap or Hip Hop.
This is more some kind of Crossover Rock.
Bassline reminds me a bit of "Before I Forget That". You could say it goes a bit too hard, but if it works for advertising then why not, I guess.
Love Japanese accent, metroido doredo
Sounds like something from a 3D Sonic game
Hello fellow kids
Not the first time Ninty's done this BTW. I remember seeing a Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury ad that used a non existent Jpop/Kpop style song in it.
Horrible, just horrible...
Sounds like nu metal from the early 2000s. Not a fan.
Banger it ain't.
Sounds like Nine Inch Nails fused with Hideki Naganuma.
Looks like Nintendo is back to marketing Metroid as a pillar franchise. While I’m not a fan (it just doesn’t click with me, I don’t actively dislike the franchise), I respect the historical significance of the franchise and am happy to support it. This level of marketing shows Nintendo putting faith in the franchise which is great for fans of the series. I hope it translates to sales.
Remember when game trailers used to have music from the actual game instead of generic trailer music?
Pepperidge Farm remembers
@Ryu_Niiyama
Metroid back as a pillar franchise? Lol no. Metroid was never a “pillar franchise” in the first place.
Well that was a cringe
@locky-mavo The amount of games and remakes in the series as well as Nintendo’s willingness to invest in the series’ longevity leads me to disagree with you. However, I am not sure what seemed to bother you about what I said in the first place. Anyway, I wish the franchise success with Dread.
@Ryu_Niiyama
It has to first have been a pillar franchise, to then comeback as a pillar franchise.
Don’t get wrong, I love Metroid, it’s my favourite Nintendo franchise and always hope for the series to “hit the big time”, but I just find it low key funny and sad when people claim it was a “pillar franchise”.
@locky-mavo interesting. I’m not a fan of the franchise and I see it in a more positive light than a self professed fan. Ok. Well to each their own. Have a nice day.
@Ryu_Niiyama
Doesn’t matter if you or I are a fan or not, facts are facts and I’m just being realistic. Maybe/hopefully Dread will be game we’ll finally see the franchise take off.
EY YO WHATS UP IT YA GURRL FLIPPIDY DIP DUB SAMUS BAMMUS HERE TA SHOCK YA BLOCKS IN WITHANUTHA INCREDIBLE ZIGGIDY ZAP DAM BOULDERTHWACK TRACK YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
…Yeah, I don’t really think it fits Metroid’s vibe of claustrophobia and isolation either.
Which is not to say Metroid and Metal don’t mix. Yasushi Asada - composer for Castlevania Judgement and Bloodlines - produced a wonderfully proggy mix of Brinstar Depths for Smash Ultimate, which is absolutely crushing. It brings the weight of a monster metal track while still retaining much of the eeriness and suspense that makes the original so great. It’s heavy. It’s huge. But it’s also tasteful and incredibly well done.

I’m not sure if this Hoobastank meets Limp Bizkit track really captures the same vibe.
Saaa-muuus HEEEROES!!
@AJWolfTill I chuckled quite a lot at this.
While I like the song, I agree it doesn't quite fit the vibe of other trailers I have seen. Unless Japan is marketing the game differently lol
Sounds a bit like Man with a Mission at first but the singing later on sounds better than them, but definitely a similar style to them
Cool song! I didn't watch the video and just listened because I don't want to see more of the game until it's out but I hope the CM does well
Where are people getting this hip hop influence from? This isn't hip hop at all
@nessisonett Edited it with that NIN/HEALTH track…much more fitting for Metroid! https://youtu.be/f86TfsyWOB4
It's not really my style of music, but I did find it interesting that they showed some later version of the first boss.
There is not one ounce of hip hop/rap in this song. No need to make stuff up folks.🙄 Either way if it sells more copies I'm all for it. I have never seen this much hype around Metroid before but I'm totally here for it.
@kobashi100 I don't get it either..lol
While it is true the music doesn't fit the game, the lyrics kind of do. Like, this is how you feel going through the game or something like that. At least IMO.
I for one would welcome music like this in the game.
Metroid music doesn't have to be only bleak and isolated. The space pirates theme in Prime goes from like an EDM track into a weird major key string bridge. The title theme in the original Metroid is so sweet it could be a lullaby. I like when a soundtrack defies your expectations.
I dont know how people are comparing this to rap and hip hop. Sounds like typical Japanese shinjuku style jpop. With that being said, I see it is exciting but I do not think it sticks out from any other video game commercial. Maybe for Nintendo I guess
@G-Boy
sounds very like much like him
At least include it as a bonus track in a soundtrack album release
This song is a hype machine.
points to video I like that. See, it does, and doesn't fit. Fits for a cutscene or intro, like Rockman X7 or X8 (Japan versions, in particular), but probably nothing else. I don't get why it sounds "cringy", or the "fellow kids" comments, it's just a fun song. BUT, I do want these new songs that won't be appearing in Nintendo games, only in the commercials (cause as @Clyde_Radcliffe said, there are more, probably), as a physical or digital release. Maybe the 任天堂CM SOUND SELECTION later down the line, idk.
@sketchturner
Hahahhha your comment!! Serious now i hear that everytime in my head😂😂
So, let me get this straight: one nobody on twitter has an opinion and now the song is declared a 'certified banger' despite being absolute middle of the road soulless corporate approved 90's asian rap rock?
This makes a much sense as the chewbacca legal defense.
Nothing there really..
That ***** does not bang… whatsoever lol.
@nessisonett that's not dubstep at all.
@swoose maybe not bleak, but is sure as hell doesn't fit with music like this one. It would ruin the atmosphere and theme completely.
Well it's a lot better than the boring American commercial.
