The Sydney tour has almost come to an end in Mario Kart Tour, and next up is a very special event to celebrate the two-year anniversary of the mobile racer.
Yes, that's right - MKT is almost two years old and Nintendo is planning on an eight-city race. Here's the promo artwork, which shows off previous character unlocks and some of the cities that can be expected.
Will you be participating in this upcoming event? Are you still playing Mario Kart Tour two years later? Tell us down below.

as much as I love the Mario Kart series, this is the only Mario Kart game I never enjoyed.
I want a new Mario Kart. not “Mobile” Kart.
Mario Kart is a great franchise, and I have to admit I never enjoyed its entries as much as I do this mobile game. Mario Kart Tour is an ultimate Mario Kart and it’s really fun, addicting and exciting. New content every two weeks with many new courses and a roster they you could only dream of. I can’t wait for the anniversary celebration!
This game got old after like, a month. A new Switch Mario Kart game is sorely needed.
They lured me back with Kamek,
but then locked my phone out with the new update.
@Bolt_Strike
Why?
Eh Nintendo, we much rather have Mariokart 9 on Switch. Or Mariokart allstars with a big Nintendo crew (Link, Samus, Kirby, etc) and Nintendo themed tracks.
Never played it myself but I could totally see why people play it, I mean, Look at all the Stages!
This game i only played one week. After that i deleted it.
As @iDork99 and @The-Chosen-One, this Game was 🩲s.
After about a few plays, I uninstalled it.

Massive Mario kart fan. This game has given a lots. Lots of content and all free. I love the weekly tournaments. Can’t wait for the next one
"I deleted it after I played a short while"
We get it, you never mastered the controls, it takes a while to click!
The main reason for that is: this isn't a game about getting 1st place. It's a game about combo's.
So you have to drift, constantly. You have to grab every bump, hit every coin to keep that thing going. Bonus points if you manage to get 1st, 2nd or 3rd. But I've won tracks while getting 4th place!
It's such a different game that I still can't wait for mk9. Because it plays vastly different. But MKT is addictive, fun, and REALLY generous. You may not always get everything... But most time I do! And I've never spent a single cent!
Mkt has a lot of things mk8 wish it had.
1. Better roster
2. 3 or 4 variants of a track (reverse or trick)
3. Character specific items
You’re not gonna believe what I’m about to say.
You’re not gonna like what I’m about to say.
But Mario Kart Tour is the best Mario Kart game.
Now I’m not saying Mario Kart 8DX is a bad game. Not at all. It’s amazing. But Tour is better.
Yup, I said it. It’s true. I’ve played Tour since day one launch and played it EVERY DAY since. Can you think of one game that you’ve played every day for 2 years??
@YusseiWarrior3000 No, it's because it's no fun 😊
@YusseiWarrior3000 When a Mario Kart doesn't have fun multiplayer particularly due to 2 lap nonsense and bad online rules, gives you the least control over your own vehicle due to the arbitrary auto-steer, has shoddy touch screen controls which will never be as reliable as a controller, and is actively trying to suck absurd amounts of money out of you, it's a really easy pick as the worst Mario Kart game. I honestly want to throw up when I see a single character, single car, plus some rubies to gamble with cost $60AUD. Disgusting.
Even being free I still think its overpriced, deleted this after about 10 minutes and went back to playing good Mario Kart games
I wish I could get into mkt but it's either grind grind grind or pay, and I'm not too interested in either option
The game is actually cool if you give it a shot. The controls I find pretty easy but I can’t help but feel a slight bit of dread knowing it could have made it onto the actual game instead of cell phone game I never think about playing. Respectfully, I’m not sure if many people over 30 like this mode of play but it’s probably not their demographic
I'm just happy Kamek and King Bobomb are playable, mobile or not. Now give us ROB , King K. Rool, and Cranky Kong (and gold versions of each).
@YusseiWarrior3000 No, because it controls like arse. Most of Nintendo's mobile games are bad tbh.
@YusseiWarrior3000 Yes
Mario Kart Tour is a complete different experience from other Mario Kart games, it's like a Tony Hawk game where you have to do stunts, use items and keep your combo to earn points, winning the race just gives you a bonus.
I get why so many people hate Mario Kart Tour, but I like it, plus, it has the best character roster in all of the series, they even gave us King Bob-Omb, Dixie Kong, Pauline and Kamek, but that's because people are paying for these characters.
@Franklin @garfreek The controls aren't the problem garfreek, I got used to them. The problem is the gacha mechanics. The slow dripfeed of content designed to get you to pay for the Gold Pass and pay money for the pipe makes the game tedious and repetitive. A traditional $60 entry where you can unlock content at your own pace based on your own skill is vastly superior.
Furthermore, MK8D and MKT are both primarily driven by recycled assets. Many of the same characters, same tracks, and same mechanics with only a handful of new things sprinkled here and there. And it's been 7 years since 8, the longest drought in between completely new, original entries in series history (and by far longer than average, as most entries tend to release 3 years after the previous one). They can only milk previous content for so long before it gets tiring, and we've definitely reached that point now. A new game with mostly new and original content is sorely needed now.
@Bolt_Strike oh I've been desperate for a new MK for years now. My favourite series along with Mario party.
I get the frustration with the gacha mechanics. But it's really generous here. I've been playing for 2 years and rarely do I not have the tools to win the races, or get 5 stars everywhere! If I wanted everything, then I would have to pay. But I don't NEED everything.
Again, I get the frustration, and it's definitely Nota replacement for the real deal. But it's been entertaining me for close to two years now and I'm still having a ball, for free!
@Ajnin Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and MK Wii CTGP lol
Gee 2 year celebration where they will hang new items in front of vulnerable/gullible players to spend money on the heavily embedded gatcha mechanics, amazing
Just a reminder that MK8 released 7 years ago on the Wii U and we haven't had a proper new console release since.
Switch really deserved a new entry, but I guess Nintendo was all about rehashing and porting all their Wii U titles over so they could make up for loss profits. The Switch really is a glorified Wii U emulator with a huge portion of it's first party library not even being new content.
@Dingelhopper I mean, most of Nintendo's current IPs have had at least one original entry for Switch. The "Switch is a port machine" narrative is pretty overblown, for the most part the ports are just bonuses. Mario Kart is one of the few exceptions though, and a new, original proper new entry is sorely needed at this point.
@YusseiWarrior3000 The extent of the microtransactions is really frustrating and damages my enjoyment of the game significantly so I don't think it can be oversaid.
I don't really want to buy MK8D and pay $80 when I got the original for $64.99 I believe? Because of the dollar devaluing... even if I did get Pikmin 3 with it. MKT just isn't a substitute for a full game.
Neither of these games quite hit the spot. Though I can't act too surprised, I figured very early on that Deluxe was all we would be getting for quite some time.
Great game, it's a completely different experience than any other MK game, it's not better or worst, it's just different. Combo/points system is great and having new tracks and new characters and stuff every 2 weeks feels so exciting and fresh. Play it with an open mind and ignore the microtransactions, if you want to support it get the Gold Pass but no more than that IMO.
