Back in 2018, Dotemu brought the multiplayer classic Windjammers back, re-released with modern pleasures such as online play and leaderboards. The sequel, unsurprisingly called Windjammers 2, is now hopefully getting relatively close to release.
It's going into an open beta this week on Steam and PlayStation 4/5, so to celebrate there's a neat video that takes us through the basics and some advanced techniques. Swap the PlayStation buttons for Nintendo ABXY equivalents and you'll be learning all about it in the video above.
As you can see there's plenty of nuance and strategy to master, and we're certainly fans of the new look the sequel has compared to the original classic.
The last we heard this is still planned for 2021, so hopefully full release details will come soon.

Windjammers on Switch is so fun! I'll have to try this out on Playstation, but will want to buy this sequel on Switch (hopefully a cartridge will be released?!)
I dont know the rationale as to why the Switch is not part of the beta but I hope this doesnt relate to anything to do with its release.
The Switch has been a great platform for indies/games like this and we have seen in the past where developers lose out by not acknowledging this.
@Duncanballs Most devs don’t generally put betas on switch and when they do it seems like it takes more work since they have to create a separate special list for it (at least it seems to be this way based off of beta situations on switch).
They also don’t generally put betas on multiple consoles. Just easier to put out one beta (that is usually on pc) than it is to make one for all platforms. No idea why they did it on PlayStation as well as pc though. Maybe the PlayStation version was just more ready than the switch (and I would assume the Xbox version, also idk if there is a Xbox version just assuming that there is).
i thought windjammers 2 should become switch exclusive? didnt they say that?
