Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Kenji Oguro have detailed the post-launch content Capcom has in store for Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, which hits Nintendo Switch on July 9th.
The first post-launch update – which adds Monster Hunter Rise's Palamute as a ridable Monstie will be made available on July 15th – has already been announced, but Capcom has revealed that five additional free updates are also inbound, kicking off with 'Title Update 2' on August 5th.
This introduces the gilded Elder Dragon Kulve Taroth as a new co-op quest. Kulve Taroth won't be available as a ridable Monstie, but materials from the quest can be used to craft new gear. Title Update 2 will also include Hellblade Glavenus and Boltreaver Astalos as additional Monsties.
'Title Update 3' comes in early September, and includes Soulseer Mizutsune, Elderfrost Gammoth and Oroshi Kirin as new Monsties. 'Title Update 4' is also coming in the same month, and brings with it Dreadking Rathalos and Molten Tigrex. This update will also see Kulve Taroth return in a new co-op quest.
October sees Silver Rathalos and Gold Rathian introduced to the game as part of 'Title Update 5'. This update will also include "a special mysterious monster, who will be part of a highly difficult co-op quest that offers materials for crafting incredibly powerful equipment."
In addition to laying out its plans for after launch, Capcom also released a new launch trailer for the game, which is featured at the top of this very page.

So they are adding new monsters months after release which by then most of us will have completed it....
MHGU deviants is very welcome! And a Kulve quest for golden equipment will be nice.
@UltimateOtaku91 Adding more post-game content is a bad thing? I feel the need to mention that co-op and competitive PvP exist.
Rip Rise i guess. This roadmap much better than Rise. Rise just have collabrations
Capcom Accounting Team: "What's going to be the expense cap for the marketing?"
Capcom Executives: "Cap!? We don't need no stinking cap!"
That's exactly how I imagined it went down. Back on topic even though this style of MH isn't for me I find it awesome to see Deviants from MHGU getting some well deserved love! I'm sure the players will love it.
@JokerCK Rise’s roadmap only goes through the end of August. I’m 100% certain we’ll get another substantial update or two before the inevitable G Rank expansion.
@moodycat As far as Im aware there will be online co-op options, so you don't have to know anybody to get this.
@TimeGuy I agree with adding Co op missions etc but not monsties for the main game unless their adding a new area to explore like pokemon sword/shield dlc
Also I didn't realise this game had pvp? (didn't play the last game)
Guess I'm waiting till at least October to play! Still can't wait for my collector's edition and I have more than enough games to keep me busy till then.
Are they also adding new waifus?
All I want is a 30fps cap
Now I might actually buy this over SSHD, seeing as there are plans to support the game and add more post game things, whereas SSHD is just an HD remake.
@TimeGuy i heard wen g rank comes for rise it will bring over 30+ monsters including some deviants as well hopefully we dont wait to long for it.
can co-op quests be done with AI? Or are solo players locked out of them?
sounds awesome. cannot wait for this awesome game.
Good news, but at the same time this is the kind of thing that makes me think maybe I'll wait to play it over the holidays when my kid brings his copy home from college. We already pre-ordered it, his birthday gift, but I can wait.
Edit: Sharing is the main reason I still buy physical. If it's just for the kid or for me I do like the ease of digital.
@Mando44646 They can be played solo and online.
@mariomaster96 This! The framerate is so irritating in this. The game is fantastic, but the framerate is soooooo irritating.
Niiiiice! Will give me an excuse to dip back into the game regularly!
I'll wait for for release for then updated the extras. Glad they are free DLC no paying for more especially when I bought the CE and all 3 Amiibo as extras. Played the Demo Trials and now I have to write down each monster power that way you can use the right skill to defeat and get S-rank points and extras.
this game is gonna be so heckin' awesome. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!
the first one was awesome and with better online co-op functionality this is gonna be a GOTY for me ^_^
When there's no free DLC: "They aren't supporting their own game?? Everyone will be done with the game a week after launch!! No reason to play a game after launch if all the content is there from the start."
When there's free DLC: "I guess there's no point in getting the game at launch, I'll just wait until way later so I can play it all in a week like a reasonable person. Maybe by then I won't play it at all."
When there's planned paid DLC: "eff this ish!!!" <-- this one is me actually ^_^
I'm so looking forward to this game!
@1ofUs Remaster*. Zelda SS HD is a remaster, not a remake.
This game is so good. Loving the demo.
At least 12 additional new monsties already announced as free DLC. And the palico is first up to bat!
Not entirely sure I’ll be getting it day one (massive backlog of games) but I’m incredibly grateful I grabbed the Amiibo for this game!
Nice support and shows how much Capcom care about the MH franchise. I was unsure on the game but after playing the demo i decided to bite and pre-order the Deluxe Edition, this and Zelda should keep me busy for the Summer at least.
@AndyC_1101 Not entirely sure I’ll be getting it day one (massive backlog of games) but I’m incredibly grateful I grabbed the Amiibo for this game!
I doubt your the only one here with this situation and also with the Amiibo as well. Can't wait for the release but it will cost a arm and leg to buy them since they are PreOrder.
@SwitchForce it was actually a user on here who alerted me that the MHS2 were up for pre order at the Nintendo Store in the U.K. - until that point, I thought it was a Japan/US exclusive as there wasn’t a word anywhere about them coming out over here, to the point I was logging in to Play Asia regularly to if they had the American versions up for pre order.
Massively grateful to whoever it was that pointed it out on here!
@AndyC_1101 your kidding right. MHS2 no EU or UK release options. The CE and some of the Amiibos might be hard to find now but standard will be around and hopefully they will have more Amiibos when they get released.
@SwitchForce the thing is, the Nintendo Store updated recently, and there was no (to my knowledge at least) emails to say the Amiibo went live - it was actually a combination of an article on this site to say the Skyward Sword Amiibo was up for pre order and a comment in the comment section that managed to nab the Amiibo I wanted.
Still need to put more time into MHR before getting round to MHS2…
If Capcom very wants to restart development on Mega Man Legends 3 I think the creators of the Monster Hunter Stories series should be the ones to do the development for the game. Do you agree everyone?
Really liked the demo and it looks like something for my pokemon obsessed daughter too. I have not gotten Rise yet and I think I will get this first.
@LaytonPuzzle27 One of my fave games for the PS1. Never liked any Megaman games except for Legends actually. A modern take on it will be amazing.
@moodycat @moodycat
Luckily, we can solo co-op quests! They announced in their presentation today that if you do it solo, you’ll have an AI partner to help you out. I’m guessing similar to the usual single player experience.
You know, I really don't mind free post-launch content. People get mad about it, but I always wanted something like that as a kid. Especially since I have ADHD, it's easy for me to lose interest in a lot of games. With the post launch free content model, I have something to look forward to for a while.
i didnt even know there'd be post-launch content tbh. i have no reason to believe this game will feel half baked at launch when i was mainly getting the game for the story mode, so this is a nice surprise
then again i got in MH stories pretty late and didnt try the online stuff as much, either way im feeling just as pumped for the game
I will say, the character design looks 10x better than #1! What an overhaul. Personal gripe but the 1st game they looked too chibi for my tastes. This is a million times more appealing visually. Hope gameplay and story is good. Hopefully dialogue is not too long and or skipable too. I hate lengthy convos as an adult..kills me lol -__- like get on with it already!? Also the cat creature was ugly as hell in the first game to an annoying point. Glad it's different/cooler looking somewhat this time.
@UltimateOtaku91
Mhmm! By the time the final Monstie releases I'll be deep into Metroid Dread. But will be great for a second play through sometime!
@MisstressBrea Everyone will be deep in their own games and it won't be only MHS2 only. Metroid will be only in the long list for alot of others to get to or later get two there still plenty of previous release that most haven't gotten around to.
@the_beaver you get my point
