Eldest Souls first leapt onto the Switch scene back in Spring 2020 as part of a Nintendo Indie Showcase, looking rather stylish and offering up a range of boss fights, handsome visuals and more lore than you can shake a stick at.
Fallen Flag Studio's game is now close to release, as confirmed by publisher United Label; it arrives on Switch on 29th July, so it's not far off at all.
You can see a new animated story trailer at the top of this page, but if you want some gameplay we've also put the Indie showcase footage below.
Eldest Souls focuses on only the toughest and most engaging of combat encounters – the Bosses – with each Old God presenting a new and unique challenge. Fitting rewards await those who triumph in the form of new powers and abilities, which can be combined in numerous ways to result in a multitude of diverse builds. But as players explore the labyrinthine passages of the Citadel, they’ll also encounter intriguing NPCs, compelling questlines, and a series of dark and ominous mysteries. Slowly uncover the truth behind the Old Gods and their agelong imprisonment…
One for the wishlist?

This has been one of my most anticipated for quite a long time now. The devs are big fans of Dark Souls 3 and seem to be nailing the feel of that game quite well.
I wonder if the sword the protagonist holds is in reference to Berserk, I'd like to think so at least.
Okay, this actually seems pretty cool, and there’s actual gameplay shown.
This essentially looks like a non-Norse version of Jotun.
Big Hyper Light Drifter vibes from this, unfortunately. I'll probably pass.
@Ralizah Out of curiosity, what about Hyper Light Drifter didn't you like?
Hyper Light Drifter is a stone cold classic and can't wait for this too, even if the name is a bit cheesy 🧀🧀🧀
This reminds me that I need to play Hyper Light Drifter (which I bought a few months ago at a discount).
@IronMan30 Yes, yes you do good sir. Just be prepared for one particular anxiety inducing floor-spike room 🤮
@mrdeagle Well:
Combat itself is fine, and I really like the music, but otherwise, I wasn't particularly impressed by HLD.
@Ralizah Interesting! Thanks for the details. It helps me appreciate that every gamer has their own perspective and criteria for what satisfies them.
I personally felt that HLD is a phenomenal game. Your points are valid, but they're not major setbacks for me. I had a great time with it.
@mrdeagle Yeah, I was really disappointed that I didn't get on with it, given the game's reputation.
Glad you enjoyed it, though! Picking up Solar Ash when that comes out?
