Nintendo yesterday released its first wave of DLC for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. As part of this, it's also updated the game to Version 1.2.0.
So, what does the latest build include? Apart from some DLC preparation, it adds in an auto-tracking camera function and resolves "several issues" to enhance the game experience.
Below are the full patch notes, courtesy of Nintendo's official support page:
Ver. 1.2.0 (Released June 18, 2021)
- Made adjustments in preparation for DLC Wave 1.
- Added an auto-tracking camera function.
- Addressed several issues to improve the gameplay experience.
As previously noted, the Wave 1 DLC contains a new playable character, new weapons types, another difficulty level, new challenges and tougher enemies. Here are the finer details from Nintendo:
"Stop by the Royal Ancient Tech Lab to test yourself with new challenges to unlock weapons and new helpful features! Then, dominate the battlefield as the new playable Battle-Tested Guardian or try out the added weapon types—the Flail for Link and Master Cycle for Zelda. These new combat styles will come in handy in the new Apocalyptic difficulty and against added enemies like the bomb-throwing Moblin and a Giant Chuchu."

But is the performance still as choppy as it was at launch?
Because honestly, it's one of the few times a game's performance has turned me off so bad I never went back. And it's a true shame...
How about... fixing the last firmware update so people can... you know...
DOWNLOAD THIS PATCH.
Wtf are they doing...?
Edit: Don't own the game, just speaking for those who do, but won't be able to download this patch.
@RoguePirate I just keep hammering the A button until it finally updates.
So can I keep the costume for completing the base game 100% or not? I guess I haven't done everything now...
-at least I'll have somewhere to use it.
As expected, the update fixes the issue with people accidentally "getting" the expansion pass with the download bonus error on the eshop.
Booting the game will show this message:
"Expansion Pass data could not be found. Related content cannot be accessed. DLC weapons in inventory have been temporarily removed."
Though, that would probably be the same if you did have legitimate access to the DLC but deleted the data from system storage, pending re-download.
@Ocaz i been doing the same thing but its still kinda annoying.
I play mostly portable too so i need to not let the console sleep, that seems to stop the download.
@RoguePirate I wasn't allowed to play online until I updated minutes apart inbetween games. I got boned by this update within minutes of release and after a few hours I see it gets pulled. Absolutely sucks.
I had fun with Age of Calamity, but I have no interest in revisiting it again. So many other games that I want to dive into.
I wish they let us lock more then 5 weapons to stop us from getting rid of stuff by mistake, its weird they let us lock stuff but only a set amount.
As for the DLC its pretty fine but its no where near the levels of the first games DLC. New weapons are pretty cool though.
When controllable characters are controlled by AI, they don't move much on the Map.
The little they do move, the slow jog, never running.
I can't swish characters, without negating specials.
The Ai from the last Hyrule Warriors Game played better than this.
@Browny I feel the exact same way about this game. I'm just waiting for a performance patch, but I don't think it's coming. 😔
I honestly don't get all the hate this game gets. I've 100% completed the game at the hardest difficulty sinking in endless hours grinding to lvl 100 with multiple characters and honestly it was such a joy. I loved every part of this game and am so excited for the dlc.
If you can...
Yes, that's the only thing I have to say.
@Ocaz
But you shouldn't have to its just very poor showing from Nintendo , no communication on the issue just seem.to be ignoring the problem. Nintendo life seem to be the only place reporting it, everywhere sale it's just seems a case of its Nintendo let's give them a free pass if this was Microsoft or Sony they would be outcry
No point in trying as Nintendo still has not fixed the firmware
And yes I have tryed over and over to get things downloading but dose not work for me
At this point I might as well just wait until emulating the game offers 60fps. Better chance of that at this point.
Since just about all of these comments are negative I'll say that I've been playing the dlc and I've been loving it.
@Deepdoop
Same!
I sunk a few hours into the DLC last night, and I'm very pleased. Seemingly endlessly spawning boss missions, and one of the new EX Challenges is a "Kill as much as you want" time trial that should make grinding a little more fun. Plus dat new weapon... Mmmmm.
Still waiting for the firmware to be fixed... I did get Minecraft to update yesterday (got lucky on a lark), but Borderlands 2 is still waiting in the download queue.
@X-blades
People are quite critical about frame rate and resolution. The game is not up to par with Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition's 1080p 60fps gameplay. I have no problem with Age of Calamity, but many people do.
The marketing for this game also subverted expectations, which in most cases, will always piss people off. It was marketed as a prequel, but turned out to be a partial sequel that served more as fan-service than a story that would be important to BotW and BotW 2. It had important stuff, but it wasn't enough.
As much as I hate to admit it, the game feels incredibly easy. You never lose any of your team's outposts (except in that one Challenge), the playable characters that you chose who you currently aren't controlling cannot die, and you will never die in one hit (it always goes down to 1/4 heart).
Don't get me wrong. I love the game. I've been aiming to be a completionist since the game first came out. I love the story, the music, and I've been grinding the heck out of that DLC.
Wow, Zelda got a new weapon in this DLC...a motorbike!! How can a motorbike be a weapon, you may ask? Well...
@Deepdoop same...
@X-blades
it gets hate because people didn't like how it ended and then say it is bad because of that.
i will only get the dlc if sooga is added
@ModdedInkling The game was better for it by not making it a straight telling of the past. Straight up losing access to characters as a result of the story might work in other story driven games, but the entire point of a Warriors game when it comes to franchises outside of Dynasty Warriors proper is the fan-service. Doing something counter to that is not good design, no matter how much people wanted to get their jollies by witnessing the downfall of Hyrule.
I still remember Akkala Citadel and how happy it made me that Sidon appeared to save Mipha. I was legitimately not expecting that and it made me happy, even if this game basically makes an alternative timeline as a result.
@MegaVel91 Yes, of course. The game would be too predictable and very small if it was an actual prequel to Breath of the Wild. I'm happy for the alternate timeline because it shows how expansive the "Breath of the Wild universe" can become, independent from previous Zelda games.
Also, that Akkala Citadel level was my favourite, because it plays the BotW main theme.
Wait, they didn't bump up the level cap?! Oh thank Hylia! I absolutely hated having to level up every warrior every time Hyrule Warriors Legends got an update! All my warriors in AoC are close to Lv.99 anyway, and if I return to that game and play on Very Hard mode, I'd rather have the mentality that "I lost because I need to git gud," rather than "I lost because a number isn't high enough, so I need to grind to win here."
The 1.2.0 update removed the Raise Weapon-Level Limit from the Blacksmith. This is playing the game without the DLC.
I didn't notice it was gone until I wanted to raise Impa's weapon level.
