As you might recall, Picross specialist Jupiter launched its new game Picross S6 on the Nintendo Switch eShop last month.
So, what's next for the Japanese developer now that it's complete? In an update on social media, it's reminded fans its Sega-themed Picross title Picross S: Mega Drive & Mark III Edition (TBC) is "currently under development".
Although it mentioned how it was "coming soon" to the Nintendo Switch last June, there's been no mention of it until now. As you can see, the promotional photo makes use of the new blue Switch Lite colour to match Sonic and Sega's blue theme.
As previously noted, Jupiter has reportedly picked out 59 Sega titles (for example, games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Alex Kidd) and has turned over 180 characters and items from them into picross puzzles. There are also four unique modes - standard Picross, Mega Picross, Colour Picross and Clip Picross (thanks, Japanese Nintendo).
When we hear about a release date, we'll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, tell us if you would be interested in a Sega-themed Picross game for Switch in the comments below.

Konami should port their picross game too.
Looking forward to this one.
I hope one of the puzzles include Pulseman.
On a side note: That blue Switch Lite looks better than I thought.
I like these themed Picross games better than generic pictures.
I'm burned out on Picross after having played ALL of the 3DS instalments and the first three on Switch (S1, S2, and Kemono Friends).
I'll consider this though, even though I firmly and emphatically maintain my position that Sonic is trash. I wonder if there'll be Alex Kidd or OutRun themed puzzles. Puyo Puyo?
Wooooooo! Finally an update on this one!
This is my jive.
Huge Sega fan during that era!
And, I haven't paid for any of Jupiter's picross games since Picross DS. Just found out now that both Picross 3D games were developed by HAL!
But, playing through Mario's Super Picross this winter, and some of the demos for the S series on Switch recently, I was reminder of just how much better Jupiter does it than everyone else. ^^
Oh! I didn't know about this. I think I'm going to buy it.
Been on a big ol' Picross bender recently (finally picked up Picross 3D on the oiginal DS, a decade late but its absolutely brilliant), so definitely looking forward to sega picross
I actually haven't picked up any of the Switch Picross yet and I think the only 3DS one I have is the Twilight Princess one they did as a MyNintendo promo, so I'm definitely not short on titles to catch up on in the meantime.
Development is taking a long time because they had to restart at Retro Studios
Yes! It better have some sweet CD BIOs music. The series has some great tunes, especially from S4 and S5.
I really hope this becomes a common thing now. We need Nintendo Picross or even more specific things like Zelda Picross. Or a sequel to Mario Picross. That was a thing back in the day, right?
@ChaoticIgnorance There's Twilight Princess Picross on the 3DS via My Nintendo, and if I remember correctly, there were Club Nintendo Picross and Club Nintendo Picross Plus (released only in Japan), also for the 3DS back when Club Nintendo was a thing.
Don't let the name fool you. Mario's Picross is just Picross with archaeologist Mario and Wario as the mascots. They have mostly regular puzzles with the occasional Mario-themed puzzle here and there.
@ChaoticIgnorance I remember playing Picross 2 on my JP N3DS.
Left probably the only English comment on its Miiverse page. Should've seen a Japanese person asking for a translation, and I think I managed to answer, in my terrible limited amount of Japanese, without starting a war.
Still don't know why Nintendo thought they couldn't release that game on VC internationally.
Oh good! I have been excitingly been waiting for news on it since last June or whenever it was announced.
I've been waiting for this since they announced it last year. Wonder what's taking so long?
I've never quite understood the appeal of picross games, but then I'm not really a fan of Sudoku or Mine Sweeper.
@Silly_G Damn yeah that's a lot of Picross. I think I played two of the 3DS ones (along with Picross 3D Round 2 and a bit of Zelda and Pokemon Picross) and then Picross S lasted me years. Just bought S4 in the last sale and played through quite a bit pretty quickly. I really like Clip Picross and Color Picross much better than Mega Picross from the earlier titles.
@DrDaisy
I'm not a fan of Minesweeper or Sudoku either, Picross just scratches a particular itch I guess. I find it to be more methodical and therefore meditative than both of those. It has a satisfying progression where sometimes you can get stuck for a bit but then when you find the one bit of logic you were missing everything all comes together very quickly.
@tendonerd I just found out a couple weeks ago that there's a Final Fantasy one (Pictologica Final Fantasy that came out on 3DS in Japan a few years back). There's a fan translation but an official US Switch release would be great.
@skullivan I play the S series Picross puzzles in a methodical order. I play a row of the regular, then a row of the mega, then one color, then any of unlocked puzzles, then I repeat the process. This keeps it balanced so that I get the different styles spread out (and more or less start with the easier puzzles).
OCD? Just a little, but that probably fits the profile of most Picross fans.
Picross (the serie) is a nice puzzle game, i especially liked the twilight princess and pikemon one on 3ds. I'll get this one for sure
@JuiceMan_V That Switch Lite does look lovely.
if you don't think Jupiter or HAL does it in a special Nintendo sort of way, just check out [the free] Nonograms (Picross) on any app store, the trial ones/cell phone versions are as boring as all get out.
Also there was a 'ColorCross' physical cartridge (like the eshop version) on the DS, but many more puzzles, better instructions.
@Tandy255 I like your icon, I think ( & Loved) Plant Puzzle League was an undersold, missed opportunity on Nintendos part; Great Game. I would pay DOUBLE to see it made for the 3ds; in 3d!
@SyFyTy Thanks. I settled on it for my enjoyment of puzzle games.
I am glad Panel de Pon made it to NSO, since Tetris Attack was probably not going to happen.
An N64 NSO app could include Pokémon Puzzle League.
Japan got a GameCube Nintendo Puzzle Collection that included Dr Mario, Puzzle League, and Yoshi’s Cookie (all supporting four players). The West only got a GBA double pack that included Dr Mario & Puzzle League.
