UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 8th May, revealing that New Pokémon Snap has been knocked off top spot.
The Switch exclusive finds itself in second this time around, as Capcom's new multiplatform release Resident Evil Village gobbles up first place. Despite its weekly sales falling 63% week-on-week (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz), New Pokémon Snap still leads the way for Nintendo as the best-selling Switch game of the week, ahead of games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Six of the week's top ten games were exclusive to Nintendo's platform.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:
Last Week | This Week | Title |
---|---|---|
- | 1 | Resident Evil Village |
1 | 2 | New Pokémon Snap |
6 | 3 | FIFA 21 |
4 | 4 | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe |
5 | 5 | Animal Crossing: New Horizons |
7 | 6 | Minecraft (Switch) |
3 | 7 | Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury |
8 | 8 | Grand Theft Auto V |
9 | 9 | Ring Fit Adventure |
10 | 10 | Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War |

Well it was expected!
I now want to see how well Village could hold that place.
Also the game is phenomenal and it deserves all the praise it gets!
Lol well yeah
Had Village on pre-order here, but had a big bill come up last Tuesday so I had to cancel it, devastated . Was so looking forward to it after the months of waiting and avoiding all spoilers.
Maybe next month.
It's worth noting that Mario 3D World's first week boxed sales are still the highest of the year. Resident Evil 8 came in second.
If RE8 hadn't made it to number one, I would've been worried, lol.
So Returnal has dropped right out of the top 10 already😱not great for it. Pokémon Snap has done well to stay in second place only behind one of the next biggest games of the year.
Still really enjoying Snap one of the better Pokémon spin offs for sure, like the original
What's the 6th Switch exclusive game? NPS, MK8D, ACNH, SM3DW and RFA are all Nintendo exclusive games. Both Fifa and Minecraft are multiplatform games. Is the Switch edition of Minecraft counted separately from the other versions?
Village deserves it !! Amazing game
heard the overall sells for RE VILLAGE were good but not great. It could not even to come close to MH RISE. it is ok . I think RE should go back to it's roots. It did not do the same numbers as RE 2 remake. capcom needs to go back to the drawing board.
@tntswitchfan68 we only have the numbers for physical games, on Steam it has the highest concurrent players for the franchise and any single player horror game. Digital sales on Playstation are also a much higher proportion then even when RE2 released, let alone RE7
Even though digital sales are a much bigger factor these days (for all games) the fact a much hyped Resident Evil sequel launching on multiple platforms did not physically outsell Mario 3D World is a massive shocker to me.
Snap with a very respectable second week drop off.
Another great week for Swtich.
@TsukiDeity
The Minecraft in the top ten is only the Switch version, the different platforms have their own versions (Playstation/Xbox/Nintendo).
@ryancraddock am I losing my mind or was the Japanese charts article last week MIA?
@TsukiDeity Yes, that’s it precisely. It’s the Switch physical edition specifically of Minecraft that is a fixture in the charts.
Don’t think Returnal dropping out is that surprising, given how scarce the PS5 is. Would have liked to see MH Rise stick around a bit longer, though.
@Otoemetry Ah apologies – I was off last week and it doesn't seem to have been picked up.
Back to usual this week!
@ryancraddock no worries, I'm just glad my tenuous grip on reality isn't quite gone just yet! 😅
Maybe a double feature on Thursday?
I'm under the impression the FIFA series will never die in the UK.
Make sense, not disappointing at all, it isn’t really for me but glad to see Pokémon Snap doing well
Residents evil look great, I might peak it up for PC soon (or maybe I will wait for a discount, we will see)
Fantastic game and really deserves the top spot.
I'm actually surprised to see Pokemon Snap in top 3 tbh.. but I guess it just isn't for me..
@Tyranexx why would it? we love football and it's a great football sim. i don't agree with transactions and gambling to win in games but i'm surprised anyone would not expect fifa to sell well here!
Good for them, I guess.
Biggest UK retail launches of 2021:
1) Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury: ~56,000
2) Resident Evil Village: ~52,000
3) Monster Hunter Rise: ~30,000
4) New Pokémon Snap: ~26,000
No other game has surpassed ~15,000 retail launch in the UK thus far.
@westman98
3 out of the 4 are Switch exclusive.
Nintendo still killing it in 2021!
Miitopia could be a dark horse and break 15,000.
@AchievingGamer
Context obviously. Can't understand your confusion.
@TheFullAndy
IMO Miitopia probably won't have big launch sales at all but will have very long legs.
The best comparison I can think of is Tomodachi Life, which sold 5,000-8,000 retail copies at launch in the UK. It's current LTD sales are at nearly 400,000, not far off from the LTD sales of Animal Crossing New Leaf.
@quinnyboy58 You might've taken my observation a bit too seriously.
Personally I'm not into sports games at all and can't really fathom why some yearly entries in various series (Not just those in the sports genre either) sell as well as they do when, more often than not, there aren't many changes to the formula besides roster updates, slightly modified weapons, etc. Every other year would make more sense, but that's just me.
@westman98
Yeah you are probably right. I can see it taking off through word of mouth and getting those Nintendo long legs.
Am a resi fan. Got village yesterday and played till completion took about 10 hours. Got it at Tesco for 45 pounds! Lot of different horror styles in there, was crazy by the end like wtf! A good game but a bit messy but glad I took the trip xx
Sorry but Pokemon Snap didn't have someone like Alcina.
@quinnyboy58 please don't assume to speak for the entire UK when you say "we love football", I don't and I never have enjoyed it and I would rather the nation wasn't obsessed with football at the seeming expense of everything else.
More overhyped popgamer garbage
@carlos82 Capcom put out the while numbers. Also, I am talking about the PS5 version.
@tntswitchfan68 it's all the same game so the sales count regardless of platform and it sold 3 million in 4 days, so those are great sales and a little ahead of RE2
@carlos82 Same game, but not the same system.
