As we get closer to the halfway mark of 2021, more video game events are beginning to get underway. We've already had a Nintendo Direct and a few other third-party events, and later this year E3 will be returning in an all-digital format.
Now, to add to this, it's been announced Summer Game Fest is back. As highlighted by Geoff Keighley, it'll be a "spectacular, concentrated global showcase" focused on the future of video games. Expect footage of new games, exclusives and more.
As part of this, Double Fine and iam8bit's 'Day of the Devs' showcase will return. According to Geoff, if you're a developer with a game, you have until 9th April to submit it. There are no costs or fees to participate, either.
"We're looking for games from small and big studios, with a big focus on celebrating diverse voices. Feel free to submit your title."
You can get a recap on the past year, in our full guide. Will you be tuning into this year's Summer Game Fest? What games would you like to see showcased? Leave a comment down below.

I prefer this to what happened last year. Spreading small announcements out over months just led to me not caring. Having one or two big events in a month is much more interesting
Oh I love that colour scheme.
I think that with the absence of E3 last year, this was one of the closest things we had to it and after being announced months in advance it got people’s hopes up.
I appreciate the effort behind it with the state of the pandemic-stricken world we were (and still are) experiencing, but most of its promised big reveals were either leaked beforehand, uninteresting or spread across such a long period of time that I didn’t care unfortunately.
Crash 4 was probably the biggest reveal this one had and it was leaked days before Summer Games Fest happened and I surmise that I speak for most when I say that we tuned in for Crash 4 at the start of that day’s show and then didn’t care to keep watching; too much time with such minimal excitement. But the concept was interesting and its broader focus on developers big and small that isn’t seen as frequently with events like E3 was admirable.
I hope it will be better this year with some more engaging announcements over a smaller time span and hopefully there will be some demos available here and there online to retain the feeling of player interactivity at events like E3 beyond the press conference segments.
I just love new game.
I feel as though now that E3 is gonna be a digital event and free for everyone this isn't gonna be as big as last year.
This wasn't on my radar at all last year, but I ended up watching a few videos that were originally uploaded for Day of the Devs, after the fact. Maybe I'll tune in this year instead of letting the algorithm on YouTube plop it in front of my eyes months later.
Hopefully it's better this year. I didn't think anything could be worse than E3, but where there's a Keighley there's a way.
