SnowRunner was a bit of a surprise announcement for Nintendo Switch back in late March, primarily because it's a relatively demanding title to run on PC, as an example. Nevertheless it's coming on 18th May and a new trailer gives some cause for optimism.
For those that aren't familiar, SnowRunner - like its predecessor MudRunner - is all about driving extremely durable vehicles in tough terrain. There's a sim-like approach to gameplay as you take on jobs and challenges in a sizeable world, and it's the sort of game that can get rather addictive if it grabs your attention.
And maybe, just maybe, it'll be a good port for Switch. Publisher Focus Home Interactive - the game is developed by Saber Interactive - has released a new trailer that is evidently Switch footage, and it looks decent.
The game is up for pre-order now in retailers or via the eShop. The standard game is $39.99 / £34.99, though if you want all of the DLC you can save a bit of money with the Premium Edition for $59.99 / £49.99, which includes the Year 1 Pass with a discount.
Are you tempted to try this out on Switch?

This game looks too good for switch. Maybe that's why it costs $50USD and has DLC
Where can I bet that the frames will drop down to 20 when it gets a little busy on the screen?
MudRunner is brilliant, I'll be snapping this new game up at some stage.
I bought MudRunner when it was on sale, didn't had time to start. Snowrunner looks great too, may be at a latter time for me
@Slowdive That's crazy, this game brings PCs that are considerably more powerful than the Switch to their knees! Even at the absolute lowest detail this looks quite a bit better on PC, but that still looks pretty good... It'd be interesting to see a detailed article on the cuts that have been made...
[Edit: And shows that I'm seeing stuff that isn't there, apparently that was streamed - so no idea how this'll be on Switch yet...]
@Slowdive This video is not Switch gameplay but Streaming from PC. It's written in the description !
@gurtifus Description of what? There's nothing like that in the description of the video.
Well Saber got the excellent Witcher 3 running well on switch so I’m full of hope
This series has always grabbed my attention, but the subject matter actually doesn't interest me in the slightest. So I don't know... I want a demo.
Is it something like "Snake Pass", where moving the "character" is the real challenge AND reward? Can it be casually enjoyed?
Or is it just a simulation game for people who have engine fuel running through their veins?
Looks great. I hope it has the Caterpillar 797B.
@Shambo I've got Mudrunner on the PS4. I don't think you have to be big on sims to enjoy the game, but you do need patience. The game is SLOW! You have to plod along though bogs, figure out how to get over hills, not get stuck in mud pits and keep your truck within range of trees to attach your winch to. It seems like it should be painfully boring, but it's weirdly enjoyable. As Slowdive said, you kind of just have to play it to understand.
I see people complaining that the frame rate will probably be low, but honestly, when you spend most of the game in creeper gear, I'm not sure low frame rate would really be noticeable.
The first thing I think of when viewing this game is: how will it sell in Canada? This appeals to me on all sorts of levels, even though logging roads, ice roads, no-roads and all the rest are actually kind of tense places, in reality.
There is even a physical, retail version incoming. The thing is... DLC? The game was released 12 months ago! You have my attention, Saber Interactive, but I hate buying products that are not complete on disk...
@TheFox @Slowdive Thanks, sounds like something I could enjoy in the same way I got more enjoyment out of Snake Pass than what seems to be "reasonable". Risk and reward in movement through the environment, and problem solving / avoiding. And I would just love to see and feel how the physics work, the mud and water and all that.
The price is too high right now, but maybe I'll get the first game on the next sale. That could serve as a full demo for what the sequel can be, I guess. And everything I find and hear / read about it is quite positive.
@Slowdive ... plus the snow !
I really enjoyed Mudrunner although I had thought a lot before purchasing it.
But, now as I know what to expect, I prepare my wallet to buy two of this to play with my daughter !
