Update (Fri 16th Apr, 2021 11:30 BST): This trailer has now been uploaded in English, so we've swapped out the Japanese version. Enjoy!
Original Article (Fri 9th Apr, 2021 11:45 BST): April is now well and truly underway, which means one very important thing: yes, we're finally in the launch month of New Pokémon Snap!
The game launches three weeks from today, and The Pokémon Company has shared a brand new, six-minute video to its Japanese YouTube channel. It serves as a 'guide' to the game's Lental Region, and while we imagine the majority of us don't speak Japanese, you do get to see an awful lot of gameplay footage to make it worth your time. Make sure to give it a watch above.
On top of that, two Japanese TV commercials have been released. The first gives us a teasing look at none other than Lugia, a legendary Pokémon from the second generation of games. In direct contrast, the second shows us how players of a certain disposition can spend their time zooming in and grabbing a great shot of Machamp's unsurprisingly perky buttocks.
Are you looking forward to checking out New Pokémon Snap on 30th April? If you haven't already, make sure to check out our hands-on preview with the game to learn more.

Finally, an official commercial on Machamp's ass.
Day 1 for me. Looks great and i was a fan of thr origional.
Wow, Machamp's butt was so sexy. 😛
I will become Buttographer. 🤣🤣🤣
Looking forward to Nue Pokémon Snappûh.
I’m amazed this game hints at Pokémon eating one another. I’m talking about the part where a magikarp is about to get snagged by I believe a pidgeot. Things got real there.
@TYRANACLES I'm pretty sure the original started with Meowth hunting a Pidgey. I'm positive there were other moments as well. Pokémon are animals of that world after all, and the PokéDex is always talking about them eating each other.
But let's get real for a moment:
Does this game support the LABO VR Camera?
If it's got an acceptable framerate then I'll pick it up.
I never understood the appeal of this game but if you like to take pictures and have more content than that just buy Monster Hunter Rise
@dux @TYRANACLES It's even in the anime. So yeah.
does this game have some endless endgame or is it just over at a certain time?
@lovesushi
The original game, I believe it technically ended after capturing photos of all the Pokemon. Or at least after getting to Mew and getting a good picture of it. That's when the credits roll if I remember correctly
@lovesushi I don't believe it to be endless because the course/scenes are mostly scripted, even though there are different ways you can interact with them and cause a chain of events (there was a level in which you had to push a Magikarp all the way to the end for it to evolve, for instance). But it isn't out yet, so who knows?
I again gotta give credit to this game for featuring a wide variety of Pokemon from all generations and not focusing too much on Gen I Pokemon.
But the game itself being on-rails like the original fails to make it exciting enough for a $60 purchase.
I just realised this is £50 and I don't think I'll bother for a while unfortunately.
I want to play a demo, but I've already pre-ordered on amazon. Lets hope my paycheck is in by then.
Already getting ready to bonk things with apples
Stupid sexy Machamp!
I need to get over the look and feel of this game, and focus more on the gameplay and fun. I swear I'm trying... I do just find it disappointing that they couldn't get this at the least looking more like BotW visuals than this clear compromise.
BUT - I do know it's not all about looks. Hopeful gameplay wins me over.
still can't get over them calling it Lental / Lentil region lmfao
This looks beautiful, like this is how Pokémon should look!
I can't wait!
Graphics are outdated af - just look at the flat ground texture 🙄
The original had a couple memorable music tunes, this music is a generic snorefest.
@Friendly you mean pokemon snap xxx 2
@lovesushi it's like a tamed rail shooter but you take pics instead of shooting enemies. you just take the best pics you can to get a high score.
Can't pokemon have fur yet? Surely a game that's all about how pokemon look could make them look a bit less 2008.
I don't know why but I want this game.
@Pod I am pretty sure LABO is dead and burried a long time ago.
It was pretty much a failed experiment. The Switch simply doesn't have the processing power nor the screen having enough resolution and refresh rate for a comfortable VR experience. It was blurry as hell.
It sold pretty badly too. Sure there was a rush at the start due to hype, but in the end stores were stuck with LABO inventory that didn't get sold.
Here in my home it's just dusting away for two years now and probably end up throwing it away.
It looks good, but the only thing that is bumming me out about is the fact that none of them say their names (except Pikachu). That was one of the most charming aspects about the original game. Why don’t they implement this for?
Far too excited for this game for my own good! Waited 20 years for the sequel!
Even still have my OG N64 copy boxed in near mint condition
Should have hit the WiiU back in the day, but happy to see on Switch with its wider user base. Hopefully will do well enough to warrant further sequels. (that wont take another 20 years)
i've never played the first and i don't know if i'll like it but i'll buy it at day 1. i don't knnow why...i thinkk that i'll love it. for those who say it costs too much: i bought 2 vouchers in russia for 84€....so i'll pay pokemon snaps only 42€
If this doesn't get a Labo VR update for the camera, then this is a wasted opportunity
6 minutes? That's half the game shown already 😂
@TYRANACLES
You've never read the pokedex? Pokémon is a dark universe man, not only do Pokémon eat Pokémon, but humans eat Pokémon, and some of them flat out murder children.
Here is Beware from Moon - "This Pokémon has the habit of hugging its companions. Many Trainers have left this world after their spines were squashed by its hug."
That's right. This Pokémon crushes children to death. That's it's "thing"
But honestly, the kids have it coming! Look at what they do to poor Appletun (from shield)
"Its body is covered in sweet nectar, and the skin on its back is especially yummy. Children used to have it as a snack."
And Ghost Pokémon? Too many examples to even pick one, but basically ghost Pokémon are tormented souls in agony more often then not, and sometimes it makes it clear they are the souls of dead children because ... ya know, tormented souls of ADULTS is just so dull.
@TYRANACLES oh you should play Magikarp Jump!
@GKO900 Well it's not just about taking pictures. The goal is to get a high score, which usually involves making the Pokemon assume a certain pose or do something special, and the fun of the game is working out how to get the best poses to happen.
In the original, there were some shots that you had to spend the entire course prepping for... just for a high-scoring shot of ONE Pokemon. So it's more of a puzzle game with high replay value than a simple photography sim.
@Jeronan
LABO won multiple toy and design awards, and while it obviously didn't sell as much as Nintendo had hoped, it didn't exactly sell poorly, and it absolutely made them money.
I would in no way lable it a 'failed experiment', and while it might not see all that much usage in my home all that soon, I'll go as far as saying that LABO VR is one of the very best designed VR experiences I've tried. Particularly the camera is great, which is why I mentioned it.
@Jeronan
Let me say this again: Nintendo doesn't care, even a little, about NA. They don't make products for NA, just sometimes NA likes the stuff they made for Japan.
LABO fits Japanese culture better in a lot of ways; cross generational play is big, people who "make things" are revered, and collectables are huge.
LABO has additional packs in Japan and while none of them have had dominating success, they always spend a few weeks in the top 5 on sales charts. It didn't sell well at launch, but switch systems were pretty universally out of stock at that point, and it's more the "traditional" gamer is pre-orders systems, not families.
And if it was successful in Japan and failed miserably everywhere else in the world ... that's a success to Nintendo.
6 minutes? What, is half the video the ending credits? Because that's about how long this game is looking to be.
@Pod Seeing as how Nintendo is in the process of discontinuing Labo and just took down Labo's website, I'm going to say no.
@lovesushi The original game took about 4 hour to 100%, so take that as you will.
@Aronin Because people will buy it anyway.
@HeadPirate https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2021/04/it_looks_like_labo_is_being_put_to_rest_as_nintendo_takes_down_the_website
Rest my case.
I am fully hyped again
So excited for this game! We keep an N64 for this game and a few others. I actually know several people who still own and play the N64 Pokemon Snap with their kids. It's definitely on pre-order for our household.
@Pod This would be so good if it did
@B_Lindz
Yeah, I'm not banking on it either. ^^
LABO was a great experiment though, and I'm happy they carried through with releasing all four sets.
@HeadPirate haha wow that is some dark stuff but now that you mention it I kindve do remember some of this about the ghost Pokémon. It’s just been a long time for me as I really only played thru silver and the more recent shield.
