Nintendo kicked off the year with a special Kirby-themed Tetris 99 crossover, and now, a few months on, the same battle royale game is promoting the recent release Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.
The next Maximus Cup (which happens to be the 20th one) starts later this week on 4th March and will run until 8th March.
During this time, you'll be able to unlock a special background featuring, art, music and Tetrimino designs inspired by Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. Here's a look:
"This coming weekend’s Tetris 99 20th MAXIMUS CUP event allows you to earn an in-game theme based on the Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury game. Demonstrate your fur-midable puzzle prowess with Tetris 99 on the Nintendo Switch™ system and claw your way to the top of the rankings in this fierce and furious MAXIMUS CUP."

Well I'm coming back to this game.
That would be cool if I wasn't terrible at Tetris.
Finally, music that matches how it feels to play invictus mode
@Why_Do_I_Exist : Worst scenario is that you'd have to come last 100 times in order to unlock the theme.
Tetris 99’s 20th cup, or Tetris 20’s 99th cup. Take your choice.
Honestly, I think I'd forget this game was even on my Switch if it wasn't for these themes.
I think I'll actually try and grab this theme
Nice, looking forward to this.
Yay, I love these events. I have all the themes unlocked.
Awesome! I can't get enough of this game. All the hours put into it are paying off now that I have 28 wins!
I've collected the previous themes. I always try to get them in one go. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I need 2-3 rounds.
Would've been cool if it started out bright and sunny until 50 players and then the metal music kicks in and the screen goes darker as the game speeds up
Rad! Was super disappointed with the Mario all stars theme....
