On 31st March, a number of Mario games and products will be disappearing from store shelves in what can only be described as a baffling – and frustrating – decision from Nintendo. It's understandably rubbed some fans up the wrong way, and one YouTube duo has decided to express their feelings in the best way they know how.
In the video below, Dustin and Sam of YouTube channel PHAT share an "epic" mock trailer for Nintendo's March 31st, all in the style of classic '80s film, Blade Runner. "Nintendo won't just stop selling Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Mario Bros. 35, and Fire Emblem 30th Anniversary for Nintendo Switch... they'll break into your home and take them back," the description reads.
Check it out and have a giggle:
We'd like to see Nintendo change its mind on pulling these games down from the eShop, just like it did with Jump Rope Challenge, but we'll have to wait and see how it all goes down at the end of next month.
Did you like the video? Are you hoping Nintendo backtracks on its decision? Let us know in the comments.

I'll wait for Ridley Scott's Final Cut without the voiceover.
I love what a meme this has turned into. Serves Nintendo right
Also the guy with the nunchuk managed to be legit intimidating
Nintendo def deserves this treatment for their anti-consumer behavior.
They deserved this criticism.
'Limited release' hmm?
I’ll hold my judgment until 4/1 and see if there’s any changes (or what actually happens). I don’t have high hopes, tho
I love this, would see in theatre for $20
Nintendo downvoted this.
So it's okay for Limted Run, Strictly Limited, etc., etc. to sell you games that take months, sometimes a year to put out to market and be gone as soon as the production run is depleted, but it is not okay for Nintendo to do the same. They have been doing it for years with Amiibo so why not games. Sometimes I think the gaming community is full of a bunch of hypocrites. Soon long as you get your copy your cool with the practice. Don't slam Nintendo for doing what other companies do all the time.
@Bearzilla823 The issue is with pulling digital copies from the eShop, not limited physical releases.
@Bearzilla823 No limited run makes limited physical copies of downloadable games for fans who want the physical copy, Nintendo is straight up removing the games from the eshop .
I laughed. It’s pretty funny and well done.
i think that if you actually wanted 3d all stars you would have gotten it by now.
I thought it was announced recently that 3D stars won't be taken off sale anymore? The other two are definitely ridiculous decisions though.
@YANDMAN Mario 35 is the biggest loser here. An online game like this needs a constant influx of new players.
@YANDMAN I don't believe there's been any such announcement. 3D All Stars is going down with Mario 35, Fire Emblem, and Mario Maker 1.
Anyway that video was really well done lol. It was also painfully accurate...
They're taking down Fire Emblem too?
"Dying for the right cause, is the most gamer thing we can do" will be my graduation quote.
Interesting how many complain about decision but they are cool with what is happening on the other side. A limited release is a limited release. It’s been around for over before in many markets.
Please don’t call this anti consumer cause nobody is forced to do so.
@Savino
nintendo is not forcing you to buy anything. they gave 6 months of time which is a good amount. but if you already have the games and are ok to play like that than whats the problem
Nintendo just wants to force people to buy some of their games before they get pulled. It's really a slap in the face to Nintendo fans as we would've bought most of the games anyway. By pulling content, Nintendo thinks it can sell a lot but forgets that people would continue to purchase "said" game for years. So, it really comes down to burst sales vs longterm sales.
@YANDMAN I hope they don't do a U-turn as the only reason I bought it was because it was a limited release and I fell prey to FOMO tactics.
If Nintendo announced that they were going to keep selling these games I want my money back as the product had been miss sold.
You all had 7 months to decide, plus it's not like Nintendo plans on taking them off the store shelves. Which means you're going to experience clearance sales too. If you don't get it by then, well... You never planned to get it.
It's amazing how we can view an MMO differently than one like Mario All-Stars. Both limited to the amount the company plans on supporting it.
@Paraka That's... not how it works.
There's no such thing as 'clearance' when it comes to Nintendo. Prices are going to only rise once stock is cut.
An MMO eventually getting cut makes sense because it requires constant server maintenance, and also needs to frequently add content to stay relevant. There is no additional maintenance to keep Mario 3D All-Stars in the eshop compared to the two thousand other games on the online storefront.
@Bearzilla823 Limited Run games, and similar companies, are small studios who provide physical releases for a limited time because they are small studios with limited resources.
"Nintendo also did it with Amiibos"
People hated it then, and they hate it now.
@Seacliff - There is, stores will clear them out. I audit them, most Walmart stores in the Rocky Mountain region have 100+ per store, likely thousands in warehouse. So by liquidation,, they Will "clearance" games out.
Oh, and Nintendo doesn't control that cause it was already bought, by company, so that narrative of victimhood needs to be put down.
You had 7 months. If you haven't gotten it by now, your interest in the games only diminish for other more lucrative games. It's why "out of print" exists.
Only reason most want to complain is on principle of a hill they didn't even want to climb.
@Savino
no i am just saying that most who want it would have bought it. and like you said they are a company not a friend. their goal is to make money and judging by the sales it worked, and i am pro company because without that company than these games dont exist. also it is celabrating the 35th. you dont celabrate a birthday for your whole life.
@Paraka
Nintendo: You had 7 months. If you didn't buy the game then, you don't need the opportunity to buy it later.
Sony: You had 10 years. You can still buy almost all of them.
Microsoft: So about adding games from 21 years ago to a digital store, permanently, and enhancing them further than they've ever run before, yeah, we're looking into adding more of that. No charge.
@NEStalgia - Sony had a ten year limited sell of a game? Interesting, didn't think they considered that limited.
Man, Nintendo must be bad at it since I didn't even have 5 years to buy most Wii games.
Not to mention PS+ restricts my access to free games when they're done being provided.
You had 7 months, pre warned, information at hand, and priorities in check. You, YOU made the decision other games were more important.
Honestly, this reflects heavily of how many of you run your lives. Always upset that you're never given more time out of personal convenience. Or that you like to argue for internet virtue points, ain't my place to judge.
You weighed other things more important. So Mario All-Stars shouldn't be an issue if your life is in check.
Do I like the practic? No, but it'd be dumb to assume this is new (Nintendo anniversaries had many of these).
@Paraka Oh, I'm not complaining about myself. Have you considered that maybe,
just maybe,
There are people who have yet to own Switches who might want to buy the game once they get one?
"Sorry, but you should have bought the $300 console on top of the $60 game on top of the other $60 games you wanted when you had the chance,"
@Seacliff - Arguing for people who don't exist, theoretically to make yourself a fighter for someone you don't know.
If they didn't know, then it wasn't their priority. If they knew afterwards, there is more copies of that game in sheer existence than most RPGs Nintendo has released over the years, likely combined. Finding one will not be hard for those downtrodden "Switchless" gamers of today and tomorrow... And whenever this argument is convenient.
Remember; It is technically my fault for buying the Dreamcast a year after it died and cannot find Skies of Arcadia. The difference is, you and others were warned before hand, and had 7 months.
i think that if you actually wanted 3d all stars you would have gotten it by now.
@Paraka @blindsquarel So you two have trouble understanding that, in mid-pandemic, people might not have as much disposable income as they'd like, and might have to pay for gasoline, tuition, RENT, and (in the Northern Hemisphere) heating costs?
In addition - and this may be something for you to personally ponder - there is this assemblage of things called LIFE that can obstruct gaming. I, a dedicated hobbyist, did not play video games for many many years before 2017. I first played Skyrim in 2018. I guess that means it shouldn't have been released on Switch?
You are not demonstrating éliteness, but a total lack of perspective. I don't think there's any point in my saying anything else to you two.
@COVIDberry - Blaming the lockdowns on Nintendo isn't a smart idea.
People prioritized other importance, during the pandemic. Like, Mario 3D World and Pikmin 3 Deluxe, The Last of Us 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake. But not All-Stars, no one would be willing to afford that.
Real talk, most complaining, did this exact thing, so you can stop the altruistic excuse when so many other bought so many other games and consoles.
And for the few who you ARE in the example you all laid out. If Mario All-Stars isn't their driving force to buy the console, something else will be. And by that time, the concern for older games is notably more disinterested over, including the flash-in-the-pan collection.
But go ahead, play the hero card for people you don't know that will suffer over something they currently don't care about.
We. Had. Seven. Months.
@COVIDberry
im sure the people struggling in the pandemics biggest worry is buying a video game. thousand year door was only on the gamecube. am i entitled since i did not have the chance to play it demand that it be ported to switch so i can play. no if i really wanted to play it i would go get all the stuff i need to play it. but i can not so i move on. people get mad that nintendo abandoned wii u owners for porting their games to switch but the moment they respect the owners of the n64 gamecube and wii by making it a limited thing it is a problem. nintendo is not entitled to give any of us this collection. so it is a problem that they make it limited time as a little gift to the people who never played these. they did not have to even make this collection. you had 7 months to get it. but the ps5 was way more affordable than a game apparently
Waiting for the cease and desist from Nintendo...
Happy to Ignore edgy, entitled, clueless teenagers all day. My Ignore List has been getting soft lately.
@PhatDoody Well looky here, NL covered it. Very sorry about our advert reflex in the forum<33
I like the Peach girl hologram on the side of the building, very Blade Runner<3
@Paraka "We. Had. Seven. Months."
I. Know.
That's. Kind. Of. Our. Point....
@WoomyNNYes 😂 it's all good <3
@NEStalgia - If I had bought an MMO, actively paid subscription, and I miss out on an anniversary event, should I have access to that event all year afterwards?
And should I have access to buy WiiWare titles like Lost Winds right now? How come I cannot?
You were given pre warning, you chose to ignore it and buy other games and priotize other events in your life. You shouldn't be having this much of a breakdown over missing out unless you regret passed priotizations. Even then, that's on you.
You're complaining it wasn't convenient enough for you, that you are entitled to more time, not for some made up person you created in your head in hopes the likelihood would match your altruistic post.
Limited print companies do this all the time to physical collectors. Yet the few is different to them, they had months to DECIDE.
Starbucks does this with limited frappes, Mountain Dew has a limited edition Watermelon. Big surprise it happens everywhere.
@Pikki If you like science fiction, you should watch Blade Runner(1982). It's pretty cool, and stars Harrison Ford<3
I don't understand this logic. What's the problem with Nintendo celebrating the 35th-anniversary of Mario in their own way? Nintendo is treating this release as an event. So why not join the event. If you are interested in this game, just get it. If you're kinda broke then the fun is to try and get this game while the event lasts. If you're not sure if you want it now and you're interested later after the event is over then you've missed it, end of story. It's like there's this super cool party and you arrive after the party is over and complain why no one waited for you?
Ps. Loved the video 😂
good. people get a laugh out of nintendos bad practices and we get to shame them for it. win-win
This thing stinks and they should absolutely get all the flak people can give them. And those who support this shouldn't be argued with, not worth the time and energy. Period.
Ooh this reminds me that I haven't even launched Jump Rope Challenge once after installing it...
Erm. So which side of the comments section should I be on?
@Seacliff Three 3D Mario games bundled for £50 is a special offer. It's certainly nothing Nintendo would normally offer long term.
It's like missing a 50% OFF sale or any limited product. If you missed it then you missed it. You wouldn't go to a shop and ask them to put the product back to 50% off.
There will be deals in the future you could get, just not this one.
I'm a little sad, because if my physical ever breaks, that's me done... Also for anyone who's only just getting a switch next month.
I gave up on Mario 35 after about a month, but if they can keep Tetris 99 going it would be nice if they could keep Mario 35 going...
Nintendo still might change their mind on this one. I'm still waiting for Super Mario Galaxy 2 on Switch.
@Mr-Fuggles777 ha ha, do you not like it then? I'm probably completely wrong, but i'm sure I saw on youtube recently that this supposedly wasn't being removed now.
@SmaggTheSmug I absolutely 1000000000000000% agree. aside from being really fun it adds something to the thin veil that is the online service. Why on Earth bother to make it only to remove it. I cannot imagine any other company doing this.
@TryToBeHopeful For me my main concern is my game and watch, use it as a digital clock so it's almost always turned on
My 3d all stars doesnt get much use so hopefully should last many many years
