Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity had a strong launch back in November. Becoming the best-selling Musou game of all-time, it presented a highly enjoyable prequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, starting just before the calamity.
It was already a pretty complete experience but it seems this isn't over yet. Confirmed within the latest Nintendo Direct, Age of Calamity's getting an expansion pass. Shortly after the presentation, Nintendo released this statement:
Expand your quest to save Hyrule with upcoming downloadable content, as two waves of DLC are coming to the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Expansion Pass. Newly added characters, stages and more are all on their way, with the first wave coming in June and the second hitting in November. Players who purchase this Expansion Pass on Nintendo eShop for £17.99 / €19.99 will get both waves of DLC as they are released. They’ll also get an additional in-game weapon and costume for Link as a purchase bonus starting on 28th May. The Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Expansion Pass will be available for purchase shortly after the presentation.
It follows Breath of the Wild's example, which also saw an Expansion Pass with two waves of DLC. We won't see this new content arrive until May, but you can pre-order it now via the Switch eShop.

Will we see an alternative version where Link wins? That would be cool actually.
THIS COMMENT IS BS IGNORE IT
I feel like more story in Zelda is always accepted, bring on the expansion pass!
I'll buy this. If i eventually finish the story. Or maybe i will leave it as a 99% timecapsule...
Can't wait to see this game really start to get wacky with this expansion pass
Not gonna lie, I've had the game since launch but haven't even gotten around to playing it at all yet. I should really do that one of these days.
If I had more money I may get it but I still need to finish Breath of the Wild and the original Hyrule Warriors first.
More DLC.... big surprise
Already 100%ed the base game... and that is as far as my motivation goes. Original Hyrule Warriors was great, this one was just okay. Probably won't buy the pass, certainly not until next year when I might be more interested.
Not the original HW, but if they add more story I'll go and get it
@HotGoomba they did win though...
Sick of expansion passes coming out for soon after launch, clearly planned all along. It’s like a encore at a gig that you know is coming. Except they charge you to hear the biggest hit they’ve been saving. 😑😂
@quigtendo In this case, it is an encore. The base game was a full game with a lot of content.
play as Tingle.
@Jayvir let me dream...
I really hope Robbie, Purah, and Sooga become playable.
Precisely why I held off on buying this. I knew this would happen.
The Breath of the Wild DLC was despicable enough, comprised of mostly inconsequential content, and a path-tracking option that should have been in the game proper. It's a game changer to be sure, but the fact that the game has been tracking your data from the start, whether you have the DLC or not is indicative of Nintendo deliberately withholding content to sell later.
I think I'll hold out for a better-performing complete edition of Age of Calamity on the Switch successor.
I haven't even played the original Hyrule Warriors yet, so I am in no rush to play this (though it interests me a lot more than the first game).
Given that the story of AoC seems more like an alternate universe rather than canon to BotW, I think I might skip this DLC. The main game was far too grindy and repetitive IMO. I loved the cutscenes and the voice acting but at the end of the day, it just seemed like the whole thing was fan fiction.
Knew this was coming, happy this is coming, need a second job. I’m never gonna be fiscally responsible. Sigh.
@Silly_G The path tracker is a game changer? I found it to be useless fluff what i used once to see how my journey went and then that's it, should it have been in the main game? Sure but so should have most of the Expansion Pass content.
Koei-Tecmo has had this really weird streak lately where the Dynasty Warriors-themed spin-offs of other franchises are better then K-T's own offerings. AoC continues that trend and I am happy see it is getting more content, but I am going to hold off on getting this until a later time.
@WallyWest : It was useful to me as there were many areas in the game that were completely unexplored, and I probably would not have thought to ever explore them without any idea of where I have or haven't been on the map considering how many hours I had poured in to it.
@quigtendo Base game had plenty of content. Also, wave one doesn't release until June which is 7 months after launch. Wave two appears to hit around the 1 year anniversary. Doesn't really feel like cut content or things being held back given the release schedule.
@HotGoomba No but seriously, did you finish the story? Because they already do win in the base game.
Give Sooga or it's trash.
Hopefully it's not just the characters we know from the in-game data. That would be an extraordinary disappointment.
Is anyone surprised?
@Markiemania95 oh... um...
Hard pass. The story was too much of a joke for me to buy a DLC.
I'm looking at this and thinking, what exactly are we getting for £20? A few new characters, outfits, stages, enemies, weapons...where's the content that I can actually PLAY? I already finished everything in this game, right up to every last Korok seed. I don't see how anything being added is going to benefit me unless you get new challenges that unlock the new weapons, skills, stages and challenges specific to the new characters. Otherwise I'm just adding more options to a game I have nothing left to play in. I expected at the very least some new story content with this. It's a no from me until I see more of what we're getting.
@BenAV yes you should, it's really good, I played more than 100 hours to complete every challenge.
@Whitestrider Hopefully one day. Hard to find time to play every game that I want to play and it's not going to get any easier with how packed the first half of this year is.
@BenAV I see...well I didn't have much I wanted absolutely to play back in november/december, so I was able to play It since day 1. To think that I wasn't even sure to buy it in 2020, but the demo got me hooked so much I had to play as soon as It was available!
@RedKijo95 Warriors orochi 4 (and ultimate) was pretty good, I enjoyed even the poor Dynasty Warriors 9...
@Whitestrider Good point! Can't believe I let that slip my mind. WO4U was a pretty good return to form for Koei.
