We loved Blasphemous when it first launched. Awarding it 9/10 stars, The Game Kitchen was onto a winner, offering a Soulslike/Metroidvania action game with beautiful pixel art. Supported by free DLC ever since, the next free update adds Miriam from Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and is launching this week on February 18th.
"Strife and Ruin" will see players helping Miriam return to her own world, collecting shards to repair her portal home and undertaking new platforming challenges. A Boss Rush Mode is also planned – available if you've beaten the main game – and a Demake Area too, paying tribute to 8-bit platformers.
Publisher Team17 confirmed the full details in a new press release:
Tasked with helping Miriam return to her world, players must complete a series of platforming challenges and collect shards to repair her portal home. Filled with traps that force the player to hone their precision platforming abilities, those who pass the test and help Miriam return to her world will have a special reward bestowed upon them.
‘Strife and Ruin’ also introduces Boss Rush Mode, which becomes available after completing the main storyline. Ramping up the challenge to new heights, the mode features courses containing a selection of bosses that players take on using any of their save files. Each run is assigned a score based on various factors, with medals available for the toughest of Penitents.
A Demake Area has also been added that pays homage to classic 8-bit platformers, providing a linear experience, played inside an arcade cabinet that is hidden in a secret location on Cvstodia, with reimagined visuals to match the retro style. Core mechanics will change to suit the classic style as well, as The Penitent One strives to gather five golden skulls and defeat a new boss to reap the rewards. Continuing the retro theme, The Game Kitchen has also included several new render modes, emulating older TV effects that can be applied throughout the entire standard game.
Bloodstained's been having its own crossovers recently, dropping a Kingdom Two Crowns DLC update last month and a Castlevania tribute was hidden away too, accessible using the Konami code. Miriam's also appeared as an unlockable costume in Wallachia: Reign Of Dracula, so it's not surprising to see her appearing elsewhere.

Oh wow, this was for me totally unexpected and an excellent surprise!
finally a game that bring justice to Miriam, not that terrible bloodstained
@Bliquid I almost agree with you, but I'm afraid the problem it's not the design of the char itself but the horrible 2.5d graphics. that style is terrible in any game
Well, we've got both games so that's neat. My daughter was just mentioning that xbox players were getting a bloodstained/blasphemous crossover and that she wished switch players could too. Wish granted.
"but played with my cats instead"
That's very important too. I also love my cat.
But back to the game: I hope that this time I just can reach the content from the main game. Because new game+ is not my thing, I am not in the mood to play the whole game again at the moment with a even harder difficulty. I just want the new stuff.
More Miriam and Zangetsu everywhere please. Separate note, hope they also add Ryu from Ninja Gaiden to Smash in tomorrow's Direct.
Hmm she doesn't seem to be playable, wich is strange.
I had been on the fence with this game and knew I should've got it when it was 50% off. This will definitely push me to get it now.
I love to see indie developers playing nice together like this and building up each others' games while also adding some hype to their own. All the developers and the players win in scenarios like this and I am 100% here for it!
I was still on the fence on Blasphemous, but this crossover is definitely a solid argument to get it.
Miriam is trying to take Shovel Knight's crossover crown, I see. She still has quite a ways to go.
I actually rather like her design and I'm all for seeing her make more appearances. Haven't played Blasphemous, and I'm not sure I want to, but still, neato.
@Dualmask @dBackLash
If you ever catch it on sale for half-off, I would totally say to get Blasphemous. It's one of the best games I've played last year, and, in my opinion, thought it was a better Metroidvania than Hollow Knight.
Love how this game is still getting more updates. Haven't played Ritual of the Knight, but I love Curse of the Moon to death, so I'm especially excited about the 8-bit part. Love me some Castlevania!
I need to get back in to Blasphemous. It's a great game but I got pulled away by other games.
