It's been anniversary after anniversary over the past month and now on top of all the other ones currently take place, this week marks Stardew Valley's fifth year.
Creator ConcernedApe has taken to Twitter to thank all of the game's fans for being a part of the long journey. Stardew Valley has been available on the Switch since October 2017.
Stardew Valley's massive 1.5 update was recently released for the Nintendo Switch version of the game. It adds new game options, split-screen local co-op and more. As of January 2020, the game has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.
In related news, a Stardew Valley board game was also released earlier this week. You can learn more in our previous post.
Happy Anniversary, Stardew Valley! If you haven't already got this game, find out more about it in our review.

I’ve had the game about that long, it’s cool to see it growing in recognition year on year. Just remember, this game’s so old it has a Vita port.
@nessisonett
Pfft, Vita isn't THAT old and it was only discontinued about two years ago.

I adore this game! I was checking online and trying to download the update daily for weeks once I heard 1.5 was coming! And since it did, I've played for more hours than I want to admit! And that was on top of the several hundred hours I already had in it!
One of my favorite games to come out recently. This game is a true pleasure to play. Here's to many more years.
It’s still riding high on the Nintendo Switch eShop, what an incredible success story.
Great developer. He deserves the success.
He deserves every bit of the gazillion dollars this game has brought him. You don't need a big budget, big team, big TV and cutting edge graphics to make a fantastic game.
I got it but it never stuck with me. Still recognize it as a great game though, happy anniversary Stardew!
Stardew is by far my most played game on Switch, I absolutely love the game. Still going through the 1.5 update, kind of amazing how much stuff ConcernedApe added in as a free update.
What a great game, I'm still amazed to think that this was developed by a single person.
Stardew is a top 3 Switch game for me, and my most played by far. Haven’t touched it in a while, though. Maybe I’ll check out this 1.5 stuff soon. Man, what a fantastic game.
I'm intimidated to play this because I know it's a HUGE time sink just to grasp the basics. Maybe when I was a teen
I have put over 120 hours on both the Xbox version and the Switch version each, this is one of my favorite games ever made and it truly deserves all the success it has gotten, I can't wait for any future updates to the game, it is my go to when I just want to relax and not think too much about what I am doing.
@Alienfreaks04 not sure why you think. It does not take long to grab the basics of the game.
Really, seems like less
@Alienfreaks04 This is a game that you can play at your own pace. I usually play have short sessions twice or three times a week. The days in the game pass by very fast and there's a lot you can do, but you don't have to. The only thing that makes you "lose" time is that there are lots of mysteries you can, but don't have to, follow. The basics are pretty basic, if you ever played a similar game (like harvest moon, the one on SNES
Happy Anniversary, Stardew Valley! Thank you for a wonderful 5 years!
@nessisonett Watching Shaggy dance like that makes me realize how stupid the dance is.
Cheers to the game I own on 4 platforms yet never got past the first week in game!
@AmplifyMJ The thing is that Electronic Arts could be raking in the cash if they got over their hate boner for Nintendo, stopped leaving money on the table and release a competent THE SIMS game for the Switch.
When Animal Crossing came out, everyone on social media went wild for that game. Including celebrities. Some of them were even asking "are there any other simulation games for the Switch?". And Stardew Valley was able to profit from the incredible thirst for such games. Let's face it. The Switch is perfect for those type of games.
But EA missed out big by refusing to even consider releasing a SIMS game for the Switch. Only rehashed and recycled mobile-quality FIFA games. That also sell great thanks to Europeans that have a very low bar for quality.
I just put this on my Switch last night and am about to play this game for the very first time...
