Nintendo has now shared an updated list of the most-downloaded Switch eShop games of the month across Europe, this time covering September 2020. And yes, you can probably guess which game has come out on top.
Just as it did in the physical charts across both the UK and Japan, Super Mario 3D All-Stars has gone straight to number one. It managed to jump ahead of last month's number one, Minecraft, which is still going very steady indeed in second place.
Elsewhere, the usual blend of Nintendo favourites and indie hits can be found up and down the rankings, including the wonderful Hades which took the gold in our picks of the best eShop games released last month.
You can check out the full list below. It's based on the number of Nintendo eShop downloads (so no physical sales) in European territories during the whole month:
- Super Mario 3D All-Stars
- Minecraft
- Ori and the Will of the Wisps
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Hades
- Nexomon: Extinction
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Spiritfarer
- Minecraft Dungeons
- Stardew Valley
- Kirby Fighters 2
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Super Mario Party
- RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition
Did you download any of these titles on Switch last month? Any surprises in the top 15? Tell us below.

Finally everybody seems to have MK8 by now.
@Yanina
I am ready for a mario kart 9. Its been to long.
@The-Chosen-one Yeah. I guess everybody is. Would be so cool to have one that get's the same amount of constant support/updates as Smash. Or even the amount MK Tour on mobile get's would be fine.
Anything really.
@The-Chosen-one I imagine the Mario Kart team is pretty far along. They finished Arms well over 3 years ago.... Unless they are developing something else.
Pleased to see Nexomon there, its release felt very low key.
@Gwynbleidd I never played any since the GC one. At first I was pretty annoyed by everything being unlocked already (apart from kart parts) and by way to much driving assist options turned on by default without mentioning it. (Both issues that the Wii-U version did not have I think)
But once I got into it, it really hooked me. Looks amazing and plays perfectly. Driving the same tracks over and over again for years gets old at some point though.
I think they missed a huge opportunity in not giving it more "Deluxe" DLC or events on Switch. Especially with that playerbase it has now.
But everything I just wrote got said hundreds of times already.
Interesting to see Ori 2 higher than Hades because whenever I checked the charts on the eshop (EU) Hades was higher than Ori 2. Anyway, September was definitely a good gaming month for me.
@MajinSoul Crazy that Hades is such a hit. I am happy for the devs for sure. But always thought the genre is not that mainstream.
No Alwa's Legacy here? It was the only new game I got this month and it plays fantastic.
@Yanina I'm really happy that it is. I've been binge playing it every day for a week now. Roguelikes usually aren't super mainstream but I think Hades goes well beyond your average roguelike game by focusing on a strong narrative, it's fully voiced with very good VA and it is offering a very beginner friendly learning curve. It took me less than 10 hours to beat it the first time while I still haven't beaten Enter the Gungeon or Dead Cells once after 15hours+ which is quite frustrating. And there's the "God Mode" aswell if you are really struggling with the game.
Despite disagreeing initially with 3D All-Stars price tag ($40 would’ve been ideal), it’s one of the best values in the Switch library. A real shame it won’t stay forever.
@Yanina
Maybe a Addon would be enough than
Like four new Cups and four to six new Drivers?
@MajinSoul I thought exactly the same thing! But did Hades launch with a discount? Because those sales wouldn’t be counted for this chart
I'm really wondering why Minecraft keeps selling so well. I played it a bit on Wii U and it was nothing special to me. But whatever, different strokes for different folks as they say!
@The-Chosen-one im not ready til switch 2.
As usual Xbox console exclusive games sells well on Switch.
My guess that Battletoads Remake is next for Switch.
Glad there are people here that want to see a proper MK 9 on Switch. I fully realize the cash cow that MK8d is, but I also think that if they are going to extend the life of the Switch like they plan on, they are going to have to have some heavy hitters. There's not much meat on the bone of the carcus of the WiiU.
@AmplifyMJ Oh good point, Hades did indeed launch with a discount.
@Yosher I guess parents like it for the kids.
@The-Chosen-one Mario Kart Ultimate should be next, have every character that has been in every game as of yet and every 3D track they have ever made, and bring back the option to do double dash style racing on top of all the additions they have added to date.
@Jokerwolf
Lol wow that would be a day one buy for me.
@rockodoodle
Mario Kart 8 DX will continue to sell millions of copies as long as the Switch is being sold.
Heck, 2020 may be the game's biggest year yet.
Hades, Spirtfarer and Nexomon all worthy third party entries there for sure. Always amazes me how the first party stuff stays so popular. Surely EVERYONE own Mario Kart already by now?
Good for you Nexomon!
@westman98 but what will sell systems?
@rockodoodle
Big games, including Mario Kart 8.
@westman98 Pikmin. What other ports from the WiiU? Have not heard much on the big games front in months.
@rockodoodle
???
Big games will sell systems, including evergreen titles like Mario Kart.
Pikmin is too niche. Hyrule Warrior Age of Calamity will be big.
@westman98 I can see Hyrule Warriors selling pretty well, but it won't move systems.
I can see BotW2 selling systems. But I think that this generation of harder getty x2 Zelda's might imply also that we will see a proper MK.
I also think given Nintendo's comments about using mobile to drive traffic to the system might also imply that they will eventually have another release. And that the gimmick of the RC cars is nothing more than a market ploy for something bigger.
And that to a degree, maybe MK will be used as a launch title for the pro. Only time will tell.
@rockodoodle
There is no new mainline Mario Kart game coming to Switch. The sooner y'all realize this, the better.
@westman98 the thought is that we might see different iterations of the Switch like the iPhone. So u might sorta be right, and I might be right too. This coy be a launch title for Switch 2.0. Still compatible with this gen.
Actually surprised that Super Mario 3D All Stars was first. I thought for sure everyone was only going to get the physical edition.
@rockodoodle
The Switch Pro exists. It is not the Switch 2.
