It's safe to say the Kickstarter for the sequel to My Time at Portia has already been a huge success. In less than 24 hours - 19, to be precise - Pathea Games has raised well over $100,000 USD for its new game, My Time at Sandrock.
Here's the latest Kickstarter update, celebrating this milestone:
We did it! We’ve already reached the goal of $100,000! Thank you all so, so much! It took us 26 days to reach that figure with My Time at Portia, but this time, we reached it in just 19 hours! We really didn’t expect that for another week, really! This post was typed in haste. We are so humbled by your overwhelming support, and it makes us want to strive even harder to make sure the end product is the best it can possibly be!
As noted, this goal has been reached in record time, with My Time at Portia taking 26 days to reach the same figure. As My Time at Sandrock has now reached its goal, multiplayer has been unlocked. At $125K, there'll be an in-game Kickstarter shirt added. Beyond this are plans for more character customisation, more visitors, dungeons and additional areas to explore.
My Time at Sandrock will be released on PC via Steam Early Access in March next year - with the full version arriving on Switch and other platforms in 2022. You can read more about the finer details in our original post.

I will give it a shot cuz it sound like people like it.
Looking forward to 2022!
Glad they reached their goal....but 100K? For a game releasing in 2022? I thought they would need a lot more.
The development footage looks decent though, better than the devs that show some concept art and then ask for money.
Problem is no Physical ... to many are making Digital without any plans for Physical options ...
So Pass for me...
If the first game was a success, why the hell would a sequel need crowdfunding?
If I am understanding this correctly, it will cost $25,000 to add a t-shirt to the game. Really. Am I missing something here?
I think they should fix the first game before launching other. It runs so badly on switch, that it is the first game I contacted Nintendo for a refund. Crashes, glitches, longest load times of any switch game I've encountered. Its a pity, because it would be a very decent game, gameplay-wise.
@Silly_G my thoughts exactly. I agree with Kickstarter projects. It's a fantastic way for those who have ideas and aspirations but without the finances to make those a reality to actually have a shot at it. But for these companies to request funds when they already have the means is just wrong. Would they honestly have to close their doors without the kickstarter project?
$9,000,000 stretch goal for better load times incoming.
@Silly_G @LavaTwilight Being successful means that they recouped development costs, not that they earned enough beyond that to fund the next project. That would constitute being wildly successful, and it's quite rare for a debut indie game to do that well. Not only am I not surprised that they're returning to the source of funding they used for the first game, but I would have been surprised had they not needed to.
@Ooyah Yes. It's designed as a thank you to acknowledge support beyond what's necessary to fund the game. It's not a feature they would like to include but might have to cut for lack of money.
I really can't stand developers that use a kickstarter to fund their second project after the first one made them all of the profit they needed, Maybe I should approach a car company and suggest they do the same for their next model think of the cost savings. $$$$$
@JimmySpades : No businessman in their right mind would describe breaking even as a "success". Being able to independently (or otherwise sustainably) finance their next project is precisely what would have constituted success. This just smacks of bad financing and it can easily backfire on them as we have seen with many Kickstarter projects where obligations have not been fulfilled to backers.
I'm confused as to why it takes 25,000 dollars to put a Kickstarter t-shirt in game.
I played "My Time at Portia" and it had so many glitches! I loved that game, but with the load time and glitches it was hard to play without getting extremely upset. Please get out all the glitches with "My Time at Sandrock" before bringing it to the Switch this time.
