Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for 28th September - 4th October, revealing that Super Mario 3D All-Stars has fallen from its lofty first place position.
The pesky, evergreen superstar that is Animal Crossing: New Horizons has claimed top spot once again this week, narrowly outselling Mario's new compilation by just over 2,000 physical units.
The top ten is heavily dominated by Switch titles once again, although PS4 newcomer Crash Bandicoot 4 did manage to wrestle in amongst the Nintendo crowd with a fifth place debut.

That moment when you realize that the New 3DS, a discontinued product, outsells the Xbox One S and the X combined
AND
The New 2DS is beating the PS4 Pro! Gwrkkwcdbcdqnwcdibbcqdbixeqibfe
Also Animal Crossing is probably more powerful than Thanos.
Mario has fallen pretty fast tbh. I did not expect that?
The New 3DS are still outselling the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X/S despite it being a discontinued console lmao
I imagine the slowdown in PS4 sales is likely due to next-gen hype though
Makes you wonder why not literally every third party developer makes nightshifts to port their games (and their whole backlog) to Switch.
@TexanSansei lol I didn't even notice that thanks for telling me
@Friendly I'd guess that a majority of people who wanted it would have bought it straight away due to the limited nature of the release.
Crashed and Burned Bandicoot? To get beaten by a three-year-old Mario Kart 8 - which is itself a port of an older game - must be pretty disappointing.
Words are that Nintendo shipped new AC Switch bundles this week. Expect both to go up in next week's charts.
Great picture lol
Looks like the Nintendo Switch is getting close to doubling it's lead over the PS4. However, if we count the Lite in there, it's pretty damn close. It's impressive how much Nintendo was able to lock up the country.
Animal crossing will sell over 6 million before its one year anniversary.
Let's all take a moment to appreciate that picture.
I was surprised to see ACNH still selling 36.5k copies this week 6 months after release and still sitting at #1, then I saw Switch & Lite combined for 90k console sales this week and that explained it, 1/3 of the people who bought a new Switch picked up ACNH as well.
@illmatic20xx
If you include digital sales, it reached 7.15 million units shipped by June 2020.
By March 2021, New Horizons will reach 9-10 million copies sold.
Year-to-date Switch sales have surpassed 4 million units, and we have just entered the holiday quarter.
By comparison, the Switch sold ~4.5 million units during the entirety of 2019. I expect the Switch to sell between 5.5 to 6.0 million units in 2020.
@Yanina Because third party games don't sell that well on Nintendo consoles yet (unless they are exclusives and appeal to us, which is quite risky), specially compared to the first party ones. Just look, for instance, at how much interest is getting a BRILLIANT third party game like the recent Ori and the Will of Wisps, compared to any other first party title. And that one is more "our style" than the Tom Clancy's games, to say some.
There's a lot of effort put into them to make' em run on portable, and yet people always complain because they don't look as sharp as in the other consoles. They probably think it's not worth the time and money invested (and we can't blame them, honestly).
The 3ds tho i bet nintendo didnt expect it to outsell the xbox🤣
Acnh cant be stopped! Am i surprised tho, no way
Perfect header image doesn't exi-
The switch outsold the ps4, the ps4 pro, the xbox s and the xbox x
Nintendo is competing with themselves
Animal Crossing: New Horizons will definitely surpass 6m physical sales in Japan by the end of the year
Xbox one X outsells the One S again!
Wow, the Xbox only sold 24 units this entire week in Japan.
@westman98
Dang.. Animal Crossing will probably be best selling game of 2020.
Bring on the Super Switch!
I figure it would be fight between ACNH and a old classic All-Stars Mario. I can figure there are memories of gamers wanting the All-Stars.
It seems like Japan is the only major region where Super Mario 3D All-Stars isn't selling faster than Super Mario Odyssey.
The game will easily be a 10+ million seller. It would be a 15+ million seller if it wasn't discontinued by March 2021. There is still time for Nintendo to reverse that decision.
Man, Animal Crossing's on fire. Almost makes me wish I had internet in my flat. Of course, if I did, I'd just be on Minecraft.
@the_beaver Everything you wrote makes sense. I just hope that it changes over time. Especially with the huge amount of people having a Switch, I wish the "our style" will open up for basically everything. Including Tom Clancy.
In my perfect world the Switch get's everything and elevates itself out of the purely Nintendo corner.
But I understand if I am in the minority here. It's just that I love the Switch and don't want a PS4 or something else. But I sure would like to be able to play these games.
I can't say Animal Crossing doesn't deserve it! I have recently gotten back into playing that gem, and have been completely changing the landscape/furniture of my entire island in preparation for the fall and winter season. Such a good time.
Animal crossing rules! I still am enjoying more than an hour a day. My backlog of games is growing, but i am having too much fun!
don't be suprised at the end of the first half of 2021, Animal Crossing:New Horizons surpass Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and become the highest selling Switch game, i think even Nintendo was suprised by how well Animal Crossing New Horizons is selling, imagine at the end of Switch life cycle in 2023, Animal Crossing New Horizons manager to sell 40/45 milions units sold, be careful Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing New Horizons is gonna surpass you.
Who buys a ps4 now?!? 🙈
Xbox fans looks a bit smarter though 👍🏼
The lifetime sales on the consoles cant be right 🤔. The Wii U sold almost 14mil units and that console was a flop
@Fulkaffe
Umm, these are Japan sales only.
The Wii U sold 3.3 million units in Japan.
what an appropriate image, bringing me back to the days of killager too lol
Animal Crossing is never going to leave is it?
i'm really glad it's doing better than the past entries.
@the_beaver The Switch just doesn’t get many big 3rd party releases so its kinda hard to say. The 3rd party games tend to be indies, niche Japanese titles (which sell similarly on PS4 as Switch), or ports of old games.
But next year appears to be quite different with many more big 3rd party releases.
A little sad to see Crash 4 just selling around 10k in Japan. Honestly expected it to be at least #3.
Eh, what were they thinking. Releasing it over there just for the PS4 as the latter's time is ending, plus in a country that Nintendo has taken over. They should have also made a Switch version. Maybe they will later.
@Krull Given Ring Fit Adventure beats Mario Kart 8, dont think it really matters
I mean I'm not an animal crossing fan either, dont play those sort of games and it selling incredibly well isnt suddenly going to make me start enjoying it, I do enjoy MK8 and crash tho
Good for animal crossing though
