Mario Kart Tour is kicking off a brand new event today which celebrates the series' very first title released way back in 1992.
You may have spotted its announcement during last week's Mario 35th Anniversary Direct; the event runs from now until 22nd September and will feature special appearances from Mario and Donkey Kong Jr. as they appeared in the original Super Mario Kart game for the SNES.
The 16-bit Mario variant will be featured in the first part of this tour, speeding onto the track alongside the classic 8-Bit Pipe Frame–the standard kart used in the early Mario Kart titles. Nintendo says that it "even moves like the original too", so expect to experience a decent wave of nostalgia when you drive it for the first time.
Have you been playing Mario Kart Tour recently? Have you been enjoying it more since the new control layout was introduced? Tell us below.

Again, this is the sort of content I wish a console Mario Kart release had, not a mere mobile game.
We need that Mario Kart Ultimate game already! "Everyone is here!" including that giant bee, Link, R.O.B., Magokoopa, Pac-man, Tamagochi, all 8-bits, etc. etc. Etc. and also that Robo-Mario obscure character too.
And every stage too, except maybe not arcade stages idk
Its really fun as a little pass time..I don't know why everyone seems to hate it. I haven't spent very much at all on it (maybe £10 since relase)
@Chibi_Manny And 2 character karts like Double Dash!
I've been saying for a long time now that Nintendo needs to drop the "Mario-only" universe for his kart games and do a Nintendo Kart instead.
Then on a future iteration bring characters from other licenses just like Smash Bros.
@echoplex Now this is a legit idea. Can you imagine even customized weapons based on which character you're using?
Samus, instead of a green shell, shoots a single plasma blast. Link fires his bow, etc. That would be awesome.
@shazbot Exactly. There would be a set of items that all characters could use plus an extra ability/weapon or two that would depend on the character you've selected (juste like in Double Dash, can't remember if they kept it for MK8).
I redownloaded it but I got an error code (apparently because its been too long and I switched phones?). Now I'm in email limbo with the Mario Kart Tour support team and they said it may be a while. I don't even really want to play the game, I just want the pins and I know there's a September deadline for this requirement
So do I have to just start up the game to do my mission or do I have to do a level can anyone tell me?
@Snatcher You can only get 8-bit Mario and 8-bit Donkey Kong Jr by using the loot box
@RupeeClock
Stop complaining! At last they have time to add more things to the game. https://tse2.mm.bing.net/th?id=OGC.2897e38d1f789017eaeb114ffd174756&pid=Api&rurl=https%3a%2f%2fmedia.giphy.com%2fmedia%2fVZMpNh76chgRO%2fgiphy.gif&ehk=lcs%2bJrE9Fehyv9kjXC9JpqiXPp2BIUEy9rIS1rzkESk%3d
If anyone wants to qualify for the special Mario pin set you'll need to play through this event.
@Awesomebird25 Sorry I mean the 3d all stars mission.
@Tourtus
Don't you have to BUY the New games bundle as well.....
@nowshining Yes, but if someone buys the game and completes all of the other missions they'd have to play Mario Kart Tour as well to qualify. Since this event has a shorter time frame for it to be completed than buying the 3D All Stars game bundle does I thought I'd try to remind others before time is up. 3D All Stars can be bought until March 31st 2021 but this Mario Kart Tour event will end this month.
I have played through it for just half an hour. I understand that the mission completion points will come in the 29th but I want to know if that's all I needed to do? Any help because I'm kinda confused?
@Jmjfrank I'm getting an error as well, but I don't think you need to complete the Mario Kart Tour mission to get the pin set. In the reward details it says purchase the game bundle and complete four additional missions (for a total of five). So, it seems it's possible to skip a mission.
Can we not get a "complete" untill after the event?
@diamond_crystal you're right. Just double checked the fine print. Thank you!!!!!
@Tourtus as Diamond pointed out to me, you only need to do five missions, not six. I had read articles that stated you needed to do all, but now checking the Mario pin set requirements on the official Nintendo site it definitely says 5 (which includes buying 3d Allstars)
@MDslices From the official website. "Users who complete this mission will receive credit on 9/29." So we'll need to wait until then before it counts.
So is the event just the Mario Cup?? I'm very confused
