At last week's Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase, NIS America and Nippon Ichi Software lifted the lid on Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny. It's arriving next year in the summer and will be the first entry to use 3D models. Heck yeah, dood!
To help people get to know this tactical role-playing series a little better, Nintendo is offering Switch Online members a free game trial of Disgaea 5 Complete from now until 29th September. It allows you to enjoy the "full version" of the game and offers hundreds of hours of turn-based battles.
It's also on sale for half price, taking it from $39.99 down to $19.99. Head over to Nintendo's website to buy it now.
If you're curious to learn more about the Disgaea series and haven't played the fifth entry, why not read our Nintendo Life review. We gave the game eight out of ten stars and said it was delightful madness.
Will you be playing this free game trial over the next week? Leave a comment down below.

The game is grindy, but really good. The story and characters are all funny and cool at the same time. Give it a go if you like SRPGs.
Is this a new thing? It got downoladed by itself.
The sense of humor in these games is right up my alley.
@Cosats It shouldn't be downloaded but its thumnail should appear on your home screen. Same has happened with Arms, Celeste and Pokken to my knowledge.
When you click on the thumbnail it'll request to download. Can easily remove it from the home screen too with start and delete.
As for the game. Its good timing considering 6 just got announced. I love the idea of Disgaea but not really got into any other than 3 (which I was addicted to, level cap of 9999 was insane!). Definitely worth a go.
So help me if Prinny doesn’t join Smash dood.
I dropped a good 200 hours into this one. It was one of the first games on Switch I played in those awkward early months when there wasn't much on the system yet. I really enjoyed the title.
@Cosats I downloaded it a few days ago but couldn't play it until it went live yesterday for me.
@Zacattack99
I'd rather Laharl, Killia, or Zed since they're the main characters of the most popular games in the series. Zed in particular could have a neat mechanic where he gets stronger every time he gets KO'd.
@JR150 Id rather Prinny since he is the mascot of both disgaea and NIS.
Oh, this is the first demo I'll be able to play for being on NSO since April of last year but I really don't like tactical RPGs, so, I won't lol
How do I download this? It says purchased but i can only download as a demo. Is this how it is supposed to work? I have disgaea 5 on my home screen with a red DEMO on it
Complicated at 1st and requires time for grinding but a very good TBS game.
@Ardisan
That's understandable. But I'm just saying. There's a reason why Joker was picked to represent his game series instead of Jack Frost.
Is only the US one for sale? Went on nintendo eshop and still says £34.99, and physical for £49.99.
I've been told how extensively grindy these games are, and that's a major turn-off for me. Unfortunate, because it looks like a fun series otherwise.
A fantastic game I’d recommend giving a try.
@Dremp
It was priced at £49.99 digitally until yesterday, so the £34.99 price is new.
For EU the big NISA eShop sale ended last week, it was £16.66 then, so may be best waiting for another sale if you want it digitally.
For physical copies, NISA's selling it directly on their site for £24.99 + £2.49 shipping.
@shoeses It's not as bad as it sounds if you only stick to mostly the main story stuff. The grind sets in for the mountain of post-game content, which is where most would say the real fun begins.
@bluesun thanks. Definitely opting for physical over digital. played the demo last year and loved it, but I prefer physical copies over digital so just avoided buying it.
I've always wanted to love Disgaia. I already have this game, got it launch day, but somehow it never really held me, and those darned color tile levels have always, always messed up up every entry I try in the series!
Ooh, this game caught my eye in the last partner showcase, so I'm very glad I can try it out now and see if it's for me!
Demo is a good way to get buyers interested. But demos aren't cheap to make.
@SwitchVogel So the best part is locked behind one of the worst things in RPGs, grinding. Fantastic...
