Update: Capcom has now officially announced its new Resident Evil CG anime Netflix series. It'll be arriving in 2021.
RESIDENT EVIL: Infinite Darkness, a new CG anime series, is coming to Netflix in 2021.
Whoops! It looks like Netflix Portugal has lifted the lid on a new Capcom CG anime series ahead of schedule.
Introducing Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness - a new show starring Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy. Both of these characters originally made their debut in Resident Evil 2 and more recently appeared in the 2019 Remake.
The trailer uploaded on Netflix Portugal's Twitter account has now been taken down, but we do know it's releasing in 2021. This brief clip has also been archived (see below).
As noted by IGN, this appears to be different to the live-action Resident Evil adaptation expected to focus Jade and Billie Wesker. Would you be interested in watching a Resident Evil Netflix CG anime? Tell us in the comments.

Is it just me or does it look like they downgraded the graphics from the previous movies?
Anyway, I like these movies ... at least they are kind of canon.
Like always, Leon is super hot.
@fafonio The wiki says they are actually canon, Claire in Revelations 2 working for Save Earth, something established in the first CG movie Degeneration, proves their canonicity.
I also like these movies, they are dumb fun, also sometimes they have cute moments between characters that usually don't meet or talk in the games.
netflix sucks.
@Hagemaru Yeah, I kinda agree. At least Ultraman was kinda fun as a show, even with the horrible CGi, but the rest of the bunch like Saint Seiya or the more recent Ghost in the Shell or Dragon's Dogma were just bad. I also didn't mind it in the TMNT (2012). It looked a bit cheap, but at least it was consistent and worked great for the action. It still is my favourite TMNT cartoon to be honest, nostalgia for the 90s aside.
It's shame though, because CGi can work if it is done right, just look at what Studio Orange does with Land of the Lustrous and Beastars, which are pretty gorgeous. CGi also worked for Dorohedoro. Hell, I would go so far as to say that Kengan Ashura works much better in CGi than it would in Cell as it is super action heavy and those aspects clearly benefit from CGi.
Too early to judge RE for me, but honestly, after Netflix recent output, that so clearly favoured quantity over quality, I am anything but hyped. It's shame to see them pump money into all those IPs but then not spending enough to really make it work.
I rather have Leon x Ada but eh Claire works too. Love it already Leon starred RE movies is always a good action zombie killing time.
@Ralek85 I hope Ultraman gets a season 2 cause its a fun show! They nerfed Seven greatly though in the manga the dude is a badass killing machine.
I also hope GiTS 2045 gets another season. The start sucks ass but its decent at the tail end. They ends it with a terrible cliffhanger.
@Wavey84 is it the chris starring one? Yeah that one is very stupid they need to show the chris can do like in RE5 and RE6. Got nice eyecandy though.
It sure is dark. No lies detected.
Well I would say it’s more a affordable style for a pilot season. Remembering Star Wars Clone Wars season 1.
Leon has gotten so many movies, I want Jill to get her own already.
Heck yes I'm interested. They should be continuing these characters journey in Resident Evil Revelations or another spinoff if they want to not use them in the main series. I also wouldn't mind seeing Rebecca and Billy from RE Zero in a Netflix presentation.
Netflix have their moments but everything is done on the relative cheap and if you look carefully enough, it shows.
The most obvious example was The Witcher. Now it didn't look bad, not at all. But there were certain moments, especially the scenes around the castle, where it was clearly just pasterboard sets. This didn't have Game of Thrones money thrown at it.
They do the same with movies. The Hitman's Bodyguard was a huge success for them simply by virtue of it only costing them $30m to make.
What I can't understand though is why they've messed around with Leon and Clares' models again. They've got perfectly good CGI skins and skeletons from the RE 2 remake which they could use and would draw a lot more people into the movie. Bizarre production decision.
Why is Leon incredibly hot, what is it about him? I can’t even place my finger on it but he’s a total heartthrob.
@fafonio That’s because this time Netflix was not allowed to use the same 3D engine as in the The Witcher series. Nice to see they kept hiring Hollywood actors to voiceover.
@Sakaixx I never got further than 3-4 eps. into GitS. Maybe I should take another look, but it was just such a severe cut below the movie and Stand Alone Complex, that I found it too hard to stomach.
@Ralek85 I am bias as a GiTS fan but anyhow spoiler once the crew gets back together its a good time. The plot is pretty nonsensical though its a far cry from the amazing Stand Alone Complex laughing man, individual eleven, kuze plots.
I need a second season cause the last episode clifthanger was ***** and I need another season for it to end properly.
@Sakaixx
Totally agree. The first episode an absolute joke. An awful piece of television. However the series gets much better as it goes on. The standalone ep with Batou at the bank for example I really enjoyed and the 1984 stuff I think works, if not quite as well as the SD Salinger stuff from The Laughing Man run.
Netflix still exist? All I see on Switch is Hulu.
Image: Leon, as in RE2-make, on a Nintendo site. I got excited. What's the title?
Capcom Reveals
(alright...)
Resident Evil
(this is going very well)
Infinite Darkness
(...so, a spin-off? Something Revelations-like, tailored around the Switch? Potentially even better!)
A New
(YES KEEP GOING)
Netflix
(... Aaaand I'm not interested.)
@Shambo I wouldn't hold my breath for any of the RE Engine games getting Switch ports
Monster Hunter Rise is a different story since it's using a custom iteration of RE Engine built specifically for Switch hardware, but stuff like Resident Evil 7, the REmakes and Devil May Cry 5/Special Edition are probably never happening
@TheFrenchiestFry Probably not, but since 3DS got a very own (back then at least) exclusive, and very good I might add, Resident Evil game, and no they're making exclusive Monster Hunter games and the Switch is incredibly popular, I can't help but hope they'll do something similar. This article had my low hopes up to eleven for a second.
Trailer was sure dark...struggling to see things xD
Only thing that lightened up was the zombi. l guess the trailer was okay. Didn't see much. Not even scary either.
@nessisonett @MsJubilee I dunno he kinda looks like he started abusing Botox a bit
Oh no....idk if I can take much more of these wacky productions. Long as Claire isn't scaring children and spraining her ankle every 5 seconds I'll give this a chance.
Serie!? Not movie?! Nice!
i fear that Netflix can ruin this series and the live-action series of Resident Evil, Netflix is notorious for running well stablished mangas and games, just look at the horrenduos live-action movie of Death Note, Nintendo if you plan to do a live-action or animated movie or TV series for the Legend of Zelda or Metroid franchise, please don't let Netflix make a live-action or animated movie or TV series for the Legend of Zelda or Metroid franchise, they will problaby destroy this franchise, like they did with the live-action movie of Death Note.
So are they going for action or horror I can't tell.
@MsJubilee he always is, its almost as if he's super human, I wonder if there's something in Resident Evil that could make someone super human.
@Hagemaru you should see what they did to Ghost in the Shell its quite jarring especially compared to Stand Alone Complex. I would recommend the Netflix Ghost in the Shell for the story.
@Ralek85
Startet recently with TMNT 2012, what a great Show.
If somebody hasn't seen it, Batman vs. Turtles is also a really great movie.
Gonna be woke, ungame related bollocks as per. As Bannatyne says "Im out"
I'll definitely watch this
I've loved all the CG Resident Evil films so I'm looking forward to this. The upload wasn't the best quality. I'm sure it being a series, the budget will have to spread very thin so it may not be the absolute best CG it can be.
I really hope they give Leon more flair than they did in the CG movies for instance. Don't make him all dark and brooding the whole time, give him a bit of levity on occasion like in RE4. The overall story can be dark sure but needs to have more or else no reason to make it Leon
@Azuris Yeah, I agree. If you like the TMNT show, I can only highly recommend the current IDW comics run. Well, "current", it has been going on since 2011. It's excellent. It's really my favourite long-form comic since Wolfman's Teen Titans and Claremont's X-Men, just with even better art and less 'dated' dialogue.
Batman vs TMNT Vol. I - III is also neat, if you liked the movie. I personally loved "Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures" even more since it brings two of my favourite cartoons together: The aformentioned TMNT (2012) and original Batman the Animated Series by Timm and Dini, which is up there with Avatar TLA as the best cartoon ever produced!
Seriously though, do yourself a solid (if you haven't already!) and pick up the IDW stuff. There are perfect HC Deluxe editions available as well, which I adore for their quality and also for their perfect mapping, as they have the entire series, incl. Micro-, Macro-, Tie-In-Series incl. TMNT Universe, in perfect chronological reading order. Something sadly, too few collections can manage.
Granted, it's already over 200 issues, and as such a commitment, but I guarantee you, you will not regret it
