The Pokémon Company has come up with a way to incorporate Raid Battles into the Pokémon Trading Card Game, and you can get stuck in straight away.
If you're unaware, Raid Battles traditionally have players teaming up to battle giant, powerful Pokémon. The feature was introduced in mobile hit Pokémon GO and is also a prominent feature of Pokémon Sword and Shield on Switch.
You can see how it all works in the new trailer above. To get started you'll need four players - who all have two Pokémon cards each - as well as a 'Boss' Pokémon card, a deck of 20 Boss Attack cards, a deck of 5 Cheer cards, four Knock Out counters, a playmat, damage counters, and a coin.
You'll likely have some of these knocking around at home if you're a TCG regular, but if you're new to the game or need extra bits, you can print out these materials on Pokémon's official site. Alternatively, at the same link, you'll also find a 'Digital Raid Battle Assistant' which essentially lets you track how your Raid Battles are going in an online environment.
Do you play the Pokémon Trading Card Game? Will you give this new take on the game a go? Tell us below.

been teaching my two kids this summer how to play pokemon TCG. hope this gets a physical release as well as the DL print off as my kids would love this to bits. and less huff child after loosing
And if you can't find 4 people to play with, be sure to place a Magikarp, Clefairy, and Solrock in their place.
How do energy cards work then as usually you need them to do your moves, or does each player still have a deck they draw from
@playstation_king Seems like Energy doesn't apply here, same goes for move effects as well. It's purely just picking your strongest move and thrashing the raid boss. The lack of energy and move effects seems to make this a much more simple experience, which seems to be the point of this new card format as they are trying to introduce new players via this much more simple method of play.
This actually sounds pretty cool. I don't really like PVP so this is a nice alternative. I might give it a chance some time.
Bring the TCGO client to Switch, let me buy packs online and stop requiring those awful code cards, and I'd happily start playing again.
(Or even just the latter change)
@Heavyarms55 i have a spare Pokémon TCG: Sun & Moon Forest Shadow Theme Deck code if you want
@Anguspuss Very kind of you, but I'll pass. I haven't played in a while. Share it with someone who plays currently.
@Heavyarms55 no probs anyone else want the code just post a message and ill post it
@Anguspuss I'll take it if no other offers, my daughter loves Pokemon TCG
Love this and one thing I’m not short of is Pokémon TCG cards.
Reminds me a lot of the raid battle boxes for World of Warcraft card game back in the day.
Is this on TCGO? I don’t see how this would work in real life....
@Anguspuss I’ll take it, but you should give it to AndyRogan because he posted first,
@Anguspuss
If the other person doesn't take it, I would really appreciate it. Trying to build up my online collection!
@AndyRogan KQY HMLT V77 LKB be quick in case someone else takes it
It says its an invalid code
Sounds interesting. It's at least a new multiplayer mode for the cards.
@Anguspuss you got a reply but @AndyRogan forgot to tag you so i did it for them in case you missed the message.
@Chibi_Manny checked code someone must have grabed it first. was sealed deck as the nice company i bought 2 from that wave had sent me two the same. i fffffffffffffffffff hate that one at random rubbish.
Wait what? Code? Is this a digital card game? I read the article but don't understand.
@Yanina Pokemon TCG Online.
You play in the exact same way, but virtually, against friends or strangers. When you buy real life packs, you get codes, that can be entered into the game to get a booster pack too
@Yanina The article is talking about being able to print out Raid Bosses, and playing locally with 3 others, changing the game, the rules and making it new and interesting
@AndyRogan thank you so much!
