Max Raid Battles have shifted in Pokémon Sword and Shield for a limited time, allowing fans to get their hands on an elusive shiny Wailord.
From now until 19th July at 23:59 UTC, Max Raid Battles will feature more water-type Pokémon than usual. Players will come across the likes of Kingler, Mantine, Sharpedo, Jellicent, Pyukumuku and more, but it's the shiny Wailord that will draw the most attention.
As you may know, a shiny Pokémon is a special, very rare variant, often sporting a different colouring to the Pokémon's usual design. Serebii reports that shiny Wailord have a 2% chance of appearing in a Raid this weekend - regular Wailord will also appear, so keep trying if you're not having much luck.

Man why do they have to hold such an event at the weekend Paper Mario releases?
Ah, the standard-sized Wailord.
Is this only spawning in the DLC or is this catchable in the standard Wild Area as well?
2% chance to appear in a 5-star raid is still a very low chance. I'll be on the lookout for it, but I don't expect to find one.
A little tip for everyone, press y comms then connect to the Internet, then search for a link trade, while it's searching press y comm again and loads of players raids will appear to join and if you back out of y comm and back into it again more raids will appear, keep doing that until you see a 5 star raid and quickly try and join
For some reason whilst the game is searching the server for a trade partner there are 10 times the usual amount of raids appearing in the y comm
6 Wailord raids no shinys yet 😩
Well I know what I'm doing tomorrow. I needed to grind for some more EXP candy and money items anyway.
2 % is stil very low, I would have preferred if it was more in line with the shiny Magikarp event. I guess they don't want to flood the market with shiny Wailords though
Since when is 2% “guaranteed”...
time to go farm shiny waillord after work.
Just got one maybe took like 20 or a lil more got it at someone raids.
the rarity for shiny is 2% of all raids, including non-wailord raids. the odds of a wailord raid being shiny is 9%
What is the catch rate though?
To be honest these max battles are kind of a turn off for me in this series. I find them quite boring and repetitive regarding the moves to use. I wish they were more creative rather than just making some Pokemon bigger with cool skins.
Encountered three shiny wailord max raids so far and they all keep breaking free from repeat balls and dive balls. Frustrating.
I honestly found the Shiny Wailord on my 1st raid after it updated. Keep looking if your after it, it is out there.
Its probs better to just masuda method one if you really want a shiny wailord.
1/514 odds masuda method vs. the 2% chance of shiny wailord raids, which can break out of the ball + can spawn as other pokemon raids as well, not to mention how slow the process of resetting all your raids are for rerolls and y-comm.
The odds of getting one via the raids is technically better but the process I think is a lot harder when you factor in how much can go wrong, not to mention you'll likely have to bottle cap and nature mint it.
Do we know if these shiny wailord can be HA? cause pressure is pretty bad on wailord, so the chance of getting the shiny with HA is also kinda bad.
I played for 3 hours today, not once did a Wailord raid even appear.
As usual the y comm system ruins your chances of even joining a raid due to its ridiculously slow feed updates.
