Those of you old enough to recall the 16-bit era will no doubt remember that time when two of Hollywood's most famous robots – one a cop, the other a killer machine from the future – faced off against one another in a 2D action platformer by the name of RoboCop Versus The Terminator, which was loosely based on the 1992 comic series of the same name.
Thanks to the recently-announced Aftermath DLC for Mortal Kombat 11, we'll soon be able to relive that titanic battle in the realm of a 2.5D fighting game.
Arnie's been part of the Mortal Kombat family for a while, but RoboCop – who is modelled on original actor Peter Weller's likeness and even uses his actual voice – really completes the picture.

The classic cyborg vs android confrontation.
Looks cool but is there an in game explanation as to why Arnie tips up fully clothed from his time sphere? I thought they end up naked as only organic matter can pass through (and aparrently cybernetics if it's underneath an organic covering)
Wasn't Robocop vs. Terminator the SNES game with really cool plastic box?
1987 human technology vs 2010 Skynet android technology? Terminator should have the upper hand, on the other hand its based on skill cause its MK
@ralphdibny
1) realm-based lore divergence
2) advancement in time travel tech to date
3) error
4) you really don't want to know what the current clothes are made of.
that is entertaining
Nice touch on that x-ray having a metal shell under the Terminator. It's a given, but a nice attention to details none the less
I'd be a lot more interested in the Terminator films if the exoskeletons had external genitalia
Oh wow, they actually got Peter Weller to do the voice?! That's awesome... Makes you wonder why they couldn't get Arnie...
@Noid Yes, it had a special design. However, I think people preferred the SEGA version more due to less Mode 7.
I still have the poster for RoboCop Vs Terminator, it has E honda on the reverse from SSF2 Turbo.
Hm... let's see: evil assassin robot from the future, who's only purpose is to kill its intended target vs modern day human-built cyborg cop who's nearly always conflicted about using lethal force?
Yeah... I'd say that's a wrap, people...
@ROBLOGNICK they couldn't get Arnie probably due to a lack of Arnie money. They got Peter Weller cause there was plenty of Peter Weller money available.
So we got Alien vs. Predator and Robocop vs. the Terminator but not Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat. C'mon just put M. Bison and Akuma in the game, both fits in well with the Mortal Kombat cast. These are two guys in Street Fighter that actually could kill.
@retro_player_77 There's probably a better chance of MK vs SF happening, if say Sub-Zero gets added to Smash. That's my hope.
@Magician except they’re both cyborgs since they have living tissue and/or organs.
@Juga lol better not watch the first two terminator movies then
Had the mega drive game. Happy times, would buy again in an instant x x x
That Arnie character model is off. Face looks thinner and the smile & mannerisms is off too. Robo is spot-on though.
Lethal asassin killer robor, who will always "Be back" VS loving kuddling robot whobis always asking first to surrender.
At this point, MK is becoming the Hollywood Smash Bros!
@retro_player_77 capcom doesn't want their characters to be defamed from being beaten and fatality'd
The robot who's programed to destroy and kill humanity vs the robot who wants to protect and serve humanity.
Would have been better to use T2 Terminator as opposed to the Genesis Schwarzenegger.
@4by3 I think there are in-game skins and gear that let you play as a Terminator from other movies.
Huh. Some people underestimating RoboCop in the comments. Guess they haven't watched the movies.
Already bought the Aftermath pack. Tuesday can't come soon enough.
@MysteryCupofJoe I had the SNES one. It was a black boxy type of cartridge. I don't remember any mode 7 moments though... Granted, I think I could only get to level 3 or 4.
I’ve both the snes and genesis robocop vs terminator games. The genesis game is by far the better game especially with the secret ultra violent mode. The snes version is far too tame for this epic fight (not to mention the sega game controls better.)
@4by3
Yeah, seems weird that they opted to go with old man terminator when they could have chosen anything. Hopefully there are indeed other skins.
@ralphdibny thats why he only wears leather....
The question is, how did they design Robocop’s X-ray scan when punched in the nuts? Organic or robotic?
"is there an in game explanation as to why Arnie tips up fully clothed from his time sphere?"
The first thing I noticed, error error.
@retro_player_77 we also had Jason vs Leatherface but they missed their chance to do a Freddy vs Jason....that would have been amazing.
Nice. Now give us the game.
